Storage Ring

“There’s a feast today, I’ll add a dish too,” Zhao Dongchuan said, taking out a bag of brown sugar, opening the package, and placing it on the table.

“Dip a little brown sugar with the steamed bun, it tastes so good, brown sugar bun.”

“This is a rare treat, I haven’t had it in a long time,” Sun Yuting said, not waiting for anyone else to speak, he immediately took a steamed bun, dipped it in brown sugar, and started eating. Sun Yuhou wanted to stop him but didn’t have time.

“You child, why do you bring things when you come to our house for a meal?” Yuhou’s wife said from the side.

“Exactly, we’re inviting you to eat, don’t bring these rare things,” Old Man Yu Hou said, trying to put it away to return to Zhao Dongchuan.

“It’s nothing, I still have some at home. My parents sent it to me. Brown sugar isn’t rare in the city, you all eat it!”

Unable to refuse, everyone stopped talking, especially since Sun Yuting was also chiming in.

Everyone enjoyed the meal, even though conditions were tough, their hearts were warm.

After the meal, they chatted for a while, then Zhao Dongchuan pushed his bicycle and left for home.

Upon returning home, after taking a bath, Zhao Dongchuan lay on the heated brick bed to check the system.

Looking at the two draws displayed in the system, Zhao Dongchuan was a little excited; he had been busy all day, and now he finally had time.

Click to draw!

“Ding, congratulations to the Host for obtaining a Silver Treasure Chest.”

“Ding, congratulations to the Host for obtaining a Bronze Treasure Chest.”

Finally, a treasure chest of a different color appeared. Zhao Dongchuan sat up with a jolt. He hadn’t seen a Silver Treasure Chest before. What could it drop???

First, open a Bronze Treasure Chest.

“Ding, [Item: Food Stamps 100 jin (National Food Stamps, valid nationwide)]”

Zhao Dongchuan was a little disappointed. Although he needed food stamps, he wasn’t lacking them. He had the grain distributed by the brigade and the rice produced by the system. Mixing them, he could still manage.

He didn’t plan to save the Silver Treasure Chest either and directly clicked to draw.

“Ding, [Item: Storage Ring (contains 5 cubic meters of space, upgradeable)]”

Holy cow, that’s amazing! A spatial ring??? This isn't a cultivation world; in a low-martial world, items with spatial attributes are simply cheating tools.

This thing is too rare. In this instant, Zhao Dongchuan felt he loved this system to death.

With an excited heart, Zhao Dongchuan began to test it. He took the ring out of his inventory, put it on his hand, and the spatial ring flashed, automatically binding to him upon first use.

He inexplicably gained a new sense, of a small space that he could access at any time.

Zhao Dongchuan placed his hand on the small table, sensing the space, and thought about collecting it. The small table disappeared into thin air, and his face was full of surprise. Although he knew it existed, actually doing it was a first for him; it was so novel.

So Zhao Dongchuan began to conduct various experiments. After multiple rounds of testing, he confirmed that any material object could be collected, but he had to physically touch it.

As for living creatures, Zhao Dongchuan currently had no subjects. It seemed he would have to go to the gully tomorrow to find a small insect for an experiment, Zhao Dongchuan thought to himself.

Finding a red string, Zhao Dongchuan put the Storage Ring around his neck and covered it with his clothes. Wearing a ring on his hand at this time of year would be too conspicuous; it was better to be discreet.

Feeling a bit tired, Zhao Dongchuan lost interest in studying. He decided to give himself a day off and went to bed as soon as he lay down.

The next day, Zhao Dongchuan went to work as usual. Although he currently had money and grain, he still had to maintain the persona of an educated youth. He was settled here, and without a letter of introduction from the brigade, he couldn't go to many places, only moving within the Yuanxi County area. If he went to other places, the public security would check, and wandering around without a letter of introduction could easily lead to him being caught as a vagrant and thrown into jail.

He looked at the system’s inventory.

[Item: Glasses (Wear them, and you’ll be like a different person)]

He almost forgot about it; he hadn’t used these glasses yet. Zhao Dongchuan thought he should still go to the county town in a couple of days to find a place to test what effect these glasses had.

Zhao Dongchuan thought this, his hands not stopping, working and pondering at the same time.

“Brother Dong, Brother Dong, you have a letter, come and get it,” a tender voice called to him from a distance. The voice was soft and gentle; it was Lanxiang, Old Man Yu Hou’s little girl, walking over.

“Lanxiang, what a coincidence, every time there’s a letter, you’re the one who calls me. You’re my messenger,” Zhao Dongchuan teased Lanxiang playfully.

Lanxiang shyly lowered her head, said nothing, and ran off.

“This little girl, she can’t take a joke.”

Zhao Dongchuan pulled his feet out of the mud, shook them, and several unknown insects reluctantly fell off. His current physique, whether from eating the system’s rice or practicing the Wuqinxi, had made his skin tough, and insects could no longer bite through it; they just fell off with a shake.

This might be an unexpected benefit of the Wuqinxi.

After greeting his teammates, Zhao Dongchuan walked towards his home. As he walked, he wondered who had written to him. He had already received a letter from his parents a few days ago, so had something happened at home?

Thinking this, Zhao Dongchuan couldn’t help but quicken his pace.

It was the same postman as last time, who was now holding an envelope and looking at him with a smile as he approached.

“You like literature, too? The provincial magazine Yan River sent you a letter. You must be one of their loyal readers, right?” The postman had obviously seen the sender on the envelope.

“Yan River?” Zhao Dongchuan was a little excited. He took the envelope and tore it open.

“Comrade Zhao Dongchuan, hello. It is our great honor to inform you that your poem, ‘love of life,’ will be published in the end-of-month issue.

Attached is a 20 yuan manuscript fee remittance slip, please check it.

— SX Province ‘Yan River’ Journal Editorial Department” (No information found on acceptance notices from the 70s, the author made it up, embarrassed!)

There was also a letter from his editor, Zhang Jian, expressing admiration and love for his poem, “love of life,” and inviting him to meet in the provincial capital to discuss commissioning more works, along with an invitation letter stamped with the editorial department’s seal.

Zhao Dongchuan was a little excited, holding the letter and reading it word by word. The acceptance notice had finally arrived, and the stone in his heart had fallen. With this, he could slowly use it as a starting point to leave Yuanxi County, and even Huangyuan, without having to wait for the opening up a few years later.

The postman on the side was stunned. He couldn’t see the content of the letter, but he had seen remittance slips, and he had never heard of a journal or magazine sending money to a reader.

“This is for manuscript fees?” The postman on the side also reacted.

“Yes, the Yan River journal used my manuscript and gave me some manuscript fees,” Zhao Dongchuan felt a little inexplicably embarrassed. (Still not thick-skinned enough!!!)

“Oh, to be published in Yan River, that’s incredible! I never thought our Shuangshui Village would produce a farmer-writer,” the postman was also a quick-witted person and immediately bestowed the title of “farmer-writer” upon Zhao Dongchuan.
