116: Chapter 116 Mayor's Daughter Ye Xueying

He changed his shoes and walked into the living room.

The kitchen door was half-open; the sound of stir-frying came from inside, the range hood was humming, and the aroma wafted out.

A middle-aged woman poked her head out, wearing an apron, holding a spatula, her hair tied up, a gentle smile on her face.

She nodded at Wang Yang.

"You're here? Sit down quickly, dinner will be ready soon."

Wang Yang greeted her with a smile.

"Hello, Auntie Cao."

Auntie Cao smiled, responded, and went back into the kitchen.

The sound of stir-frying resumed, sizzling and fragrant.

Secretary General Cao Yun came out of the study, wearing dark loungewear, his hair neatly combed, a smile on his face.

Seeing the items in Wang Yang's hands, he frowned.

"Xiao Yang, you're here, why bring things?"

Wang Yang placed the items next to the coffee table and said with a smile.

"Uncle Cao, it's the New Year, just a small token of my appreciation."

Secretary General Cao Yun shook his head, but he couldn't hide the smile at the corner of his mouth.

"Don't bring anything next time. Come, sit."

The two sat on the sofa.

The girl poured them tea, then sat to the side, looking at her phone, occasionally looking up at Wang Yang.

Wang Yang noticed her gaze and turned to look at her; she hurriedly lowered her head, her face turning red again.

Secretary General Cao Yun saw this and smiled.

"Xiao Yang, this is my goddaughter, Ye Xueying. Ye Xueying, this is Wang Yang, call him Brother Wang."

Ye Xueying looked up, glanced at Wang Yang, and said softly.

"Hello, Brother Wang."

Wang Yang nodded with a smile.

"Hello."

Just then, the study door opened, and a sixteen or seventeen-year-old girl poked her head out.

She had a ponytail and was wearing a pink hoodie.

There was still some baby fat on her face, and her eyes were big and very cute.

She saw Wang Yang, blinked curiously, then ran over and sat beside Secretary General Cao Yun.

"Dad, do we have guests?"

Secretary General Cao Yun smiled and patted her head.

"Cao Yao, this is Wang Yang, call him Brother Wang."

Cao Yao glanced at Wang Yang and said crisply.

"Hello, Brother Wang."

Wang Yang nodded with a smile.

"Hello."

Cao Yao sat on the side, looking at Wang Yang, then at Ye Xueying, her eyes rolling, the corners of her mouth curling up.

Ye Xueying felt embarrassed by her look and reached out to pinch her waist lightly.

Cao Yao shrank back, giggling.

Secretary General Cao Yun took a chess set from under the coffee table and set it on the table.

"Xiao Yang, do you know how to play chess?"

Wang Yang looked at the chessboard.

"A little."

Secretary General Cao Yun smiled.

"Come, play a game with your uncle."

The two set up the pieces, red first, black second.

Wang Yang played red, moving the cannon to the center first.

Secretary General Cao Yun jumped the horse, Wang Yang brought out the chariot.

Secretary General Cao Yun's playing style was steady, thinking for a long time for every move; Wang Yang wasn't in a rush, accompanying him slowly.

The two girls sat to the side, Cao Yao lying on the sofa armrest watching them play.

Ye Xueying held her phone, looking up occasionally.

After a dozen moves, Secretary General Cao Yun suddenly spoke.

"Xiao Yang, Bureau Chief Sun Tao told me about that Zhang Mingde matter. Don't worry, this matter will definitely be severely punished; those who should be sentenced will be sentenced, those who should be locked up will be locked up, there's no escaping it."

Wang Yang made a move.

"Uncle Cao, with your words, I can rest easy."

Secretary General Cao Yun nodded and moved a horse.

"However, this Zhang Mingde does have some background. His foster father, Deputy Director Wang Hao of the Development and Reform Commission, has been operating in Yuntian City for over a dozen years, and his connections are deeply intertwined. Have you heard of this person?"

Wang Yang shook his head.

"I haven't heard of him."

Secretary General Cao Yun moved a chariot, his tone indifferent.

"This Deputy Director Wang Hao has ability, but his intentions are not upright. Relying on the little power in his hands, he approves projects and gets land for his relatives and friends, causing quite a few issues in Yuntian City. I've long wanted to act against him, but I just haven't found the right opportunity."

A glint flashed in Wang Yang's eyes; he held a chess piece in his hand without rushing to move.

"Uncle Cao, if this matter causes you difficulty, then forget it. I don't want to cause you trouble because of my affairs."

Secretary General Cao Yun waved his hand and moved a cannon.

"What difficulty? No matter how capable Deputy Director Wang Hao is, he's just a deputy director. I, Secretary General Cao Yun, have worked in Yuntian City for twenty years, and I've never feared anyone."

He paused, his tone cooling down.

"If Deputy Director Wang Hao is not sensible and insists on interfering in this matter, then his position should be moved."

Wang Yang looked at Secretary General Cao Yun, nodding inwardly.

This was the power of the system, being able to make a Municipal Government Secretary General trust and defend him so much.

He smiled and made a move.

"Uncle Cao, with your words, I won't be afraid of anything."

Secretary General Cao Yun laughed loudly and moved the general.

"You never needed to be afraid. You have me."

Cao Yao lay on the sofa armrest, looking at Wang Yang with bright eyes.

"Brother Wang, you are so good at chess; my dad rarely loses when playing with others."

Wang Yang smiled.

"It's your dad going easy on me."

Cao Yao shook her head, her ponytail swaying.

"That's not it. My dad is very serious when playing chess; he never goes easy on people."

Ye Xueying sat to the side, the corners of her mouth slightly curling up. She glanced at Wang Yang, then lowered her head again.

Her fingers swiped across her phone screen, then stopped, as if listening to them talk.

Secretary General Cao Yun made a move, looked up at Ye Xueying, then at Wang Yang, and smiled.

"Xiao Yang, what do you think of Ye Xueying?"

Ye Xueying was stunned, her face turning red instantly.

"Godfather..."

Secretary General Cao Yun waved his hand.

"What's wrong with asking?"

Wang Yang glanced at Ye Xueying.

She sat there, head lowered, fingers clutching the hem of her clothes, her face as red as an apple.

The milky-white sweater made her skin look even whiter, her long black straight hair draped over her shoulders, and her eyelashes trembling like butterfly wings.

He smiled.

"Ye Xueying is very pretty."

Ye Xueying's face turned even redder; she buried her face in the pillow, her voice muffled.

"Brother Wang..."

Cao Yao clapped and laughed from the side.

"Sister Ye Xueying is shy! Sister Ye Xueying is shy!"

Ye Xueying reached out to pinch her, Cao Yao hid behind Wang Yang, poking her head out to make a face at her.

Ye Xueying was both shy and annoyed; she stood up to chase her, Cao Yao ran around the sofa, and the two girls laughed together.

Secretary General Cao Yun watched them, smiling and shaking his head.

"This child, she's just thin-skinned. But come to think of it, you should know Ye Xueying's father."

Wang Yang looked up at him.

Secretary General Cao Yun picked up his teacup, took a sip, his tone as casual as if he were saying the weather was nice today.

"Her father is Ye Hongyuan. The Mayor of our Yuntian City."

Wang Yang's hand paused.

Ye Hongyuan, Mayor of Yuntian City.

That was the real top leader of this city, a person standing at the pinnacle of power.

He glanced at Ye Xueying; she was still in that shy state, face buried in the pillow, ears red.

A milky-white sweater, light blue jeans, fluffy slippers—no different from an ordinary girl.

Who could have imagined she was the mayor's daughter.

Wang Yang withdrew his gaze and smiled.

"So she is Mayor Ye's daughter. My apologies for the disrespect."

Ye Xueying raised her head from the pillow, her face flushed, and glared at him.
