58: Chapter 58 The Battle of New York

"These people really won't listen until they're staring death in the face."

He turned to look at Steve, his eyes suddenly lighting up.

"Captain, let me borrow your face for a second."

Steve looked puzzled.

"What?"

Peter had already turned on the camera and aimed it at him.

"Look at the lens, tell the citizens of New York City to evacuate immediately. Be serious, make it look like World War III is about to break out."

"Is this really necessary?"

"Captain America personally urging them to run for their lives is more effective than a Spider-Man who just talks nonsense."

Steve gave him a helpless look, but ultimately faced the camera.

"I am Steve Rogers."

"Manhattan is about to be attacked. This is not a joke, and it is not a drill."

"Please leave the area around Stark Tower immediately, follow the instructions of the Police and rescue personnel, do not linger, and do not gawk."

"Repeat, evacuate immediately."

The recording ended.

Peter uploaded it immediately.

In just a few seconds, the comment section completely exploded.

[Holy crap, it's actually Captain America!]

[Run! This time it's real!]

[What on earth is happening?]

[Traffic is already starting to jam near Stark Tower!]

[Has anyone seen the Military?]

The number of shares skyrocketed.

More and more people began to believe the warning, and the New York Police quickly received the news and organized the evacuation of the nearby blocks.

Steve watched the changes on the screen and nodded slightly.

"Well done."

"Don't praise me yet."

Peter looked out the window.

Stark Tower had already appeared at the edge of his vision.

The unease in his heart not only didn't lessen but instead grew stronger. He hoped it wasn't too late.

Peter replied to messages as much as he could. Steve watched him and nodded, approving of how he had conveyed the urgency without causing panic.

But this wasn't enough. Peter dialed Johnny Storm's number. It rang twice before connecting: "Peter, what's wrong?"

"Johnny Storm, where are you and the others?"

"Don't you remember? We're in Germany, at that big science festival Reed is attending. What's wrong? Did something happen?"

"Manhattan is about to be attacked by aliens. A massive army, you must come over immediately! This is a Level 1 emergency!"

"What?! Aliens?!" Sounds of discussion came from the other end of the line. Susan Storm's voice rang out: "Peter? What's going on? What do you mean aliens?"

"There's a guy named Loki, he has a device that can open a space bridge and bring in an alien monster army! I'm trying my best to stop him, but I need your help! How fast can you get here?"

"We're in Germany, Peter!" Susan Storm panicked, "It takes 11 hours to fly over!"

"Can Johnny Storm fly over?" Peter cursed under his breath.

"No, he's not that fast, don't even think about it, Johnny Storm!" She shouted. Hearing Johnny Storm retort, Susan Storm yelled at him to shut up again. She said: "Sorry, Peter. We will get there as soon as possible."

"Fine, get here as soon as you can. Susan Storm, I have a bad feeling about this." Peter sighed and hung up.

After doing what he could, he walked to the corner of the cabin and dialed Felicia's number.

"What is he doing?" Clint asked.

Natasha smiled: "Probably calling his girlfriend."

Peter glared at Natasha, the call connected: "Hello? Little Tiger?"

"Kitten, listen, you must stay away from Manhattan, do you understand?"

"I saw your post online, what's wrong, Little Tiger?"

"It's crazy, Felicia, it's completely crazy. I promise to tell you everything when I get back, but for now, please ensure everyone's safety."

"Peter... Liz Allan! She's in Manhattan right now!"

"What?! Why?!"

"Her, her summer job!"

"Felicia, call her immediately and tell her to leave. Don't even think about going in there yourself to find her, do you understand?"

"Okay, see you later." She hung up. Peter cursed under his breath; he knew she wouldn't listen and would definitely put on her suit and do something stupid. He loved her to death, but she was sometimes truly maddening.

The fighter jet quickly arrived in Manhattan. Peter's tweet had already gone viral, and many people near Stark Tower were evacuating. Although some people stayed behind thinking it was a joke, it was better than nothing.

However, as the fighter jet flew into the city's airspace, a huge blue beam of light shot into the sky, tearing open a portal. Thousands of flying vehicles poured out, lasers chasing a small red flying light spot—Tony.

Peter sighed.

The war had begun.

"Stark, we are following your flight path to the northeast." Natasha shouted over the radio.

Tony roared back, "Come up from Park Avenue, I'll lead the pursuers to you!"

The fighter jet dove into the cluster of buildings, heading straight for Stark Tower. Tony swept past from the side, dragging a string of Chitauri pursuers behind him. Natasha pulled the machine gun trigger, and a dense net of fire pinned the aliens in place, allowing Tony to escape.

The fighter jet climbed slowly, flying up along Stark Tower. On the top terrace, Loki was locked in an intense battle with Thor.

"Nat!" Clint pointed downwards.

"I see it." Natasha angled the nose of the jet toward Loki and opened fire.

The God of Mischief raised his scepter, and a plasma beam hit accurately. Peter shouted: "Hold on!" The fighter jet was hit, spinning and falling.

During the fall, Captain America held onto the fuselage tightly, repeatedly being lifted by the airflow. Peter grabbed him, sticking his whole body to the hull. The fighter jet eventually crashed into an empty concrete lot. The landing was rough, but fortunately, everyone was still alive.

Everyone rushed out of the wreckage and looked up—more and more Chitauri were pouring down from the sky.

"We have to get back up there!" Captain America shouted.

"I should be able to swing up with Webbing, and take everyone up with me at the same time." Peter said, while rushing toward the overpass below Stark Tower. Before he could finish speaking, a heaven-shaking roar suddenly came from the huge blue portal.

An unimaginably massive figure emerged from the darkness—a flying behemoth covered in metal scales, with Chitauri soldiers standing all over its decks. A Leviathan.

"Holy..." Peter gasped. He had clearly seen it in the movies, but only now, facing it in person, did he truly realize how massive this thing was. That overwhelming sense of oppression... it was like a monster that shouldn't exist in reality.

The behemoth swept over their heads, and the soldiers on the decks jumped off one after another, sticking to the outer walls of the buildings. It was both a tank and a troop carrier. The Chitauri rushed into the office building, flashes of blue energy appearing one after another, and screams merged into one.
