78: Mischievous Tasks
"There's such a benefit? If I absorb more, wouldn't I become invincible!"
Qin Shou couldn't help but exclaim in pleasant surprise. He never expected absorbing the demon corpse's essence blood would bring such immense benefits—it was practically a pie falling from the sky!
"How is this possible? The blood of a demon corpse, while containing boundless power, also carries extremely potent Yin killing energy. Absorbing too much can lead to backlash. Master, you absorbed the demon corpse's blood yet remained completely unharmed, unaffected by the Yin killing energy within it. Ling'er finds this very strange. After much thought, Ling'er believes there is only one possibility."
Ling'er wore a puzzled expression, her delicate brows slightly furrowed as she lowered her head in deep thought.
"What possibility?"
Qin Shou asked curiously.
"Unless Master is innately a Nine Yang Body, unafraid of Yin killing energy. Only then could you absorb the power within the demon corpse's essence blood without being affected in the slightest by the Yin killing energy."
Ling'er lifted her head, speaking with certainty.
"Could this be what he meant by us being alike?"
Qin Shou immediately thought of the dream he just had. That mysterious man said he and Qin Shou were alike. Could it be because he possessed a Nine Yang Body?
"He? Who is he?"
Ling'er couldn't help but look confused.
"Oh! It's nothing, Ling'er. Do you know your own origins?"
Qin Shou shook his head, deciding to set aside the matters from the dream for now and first learn about Ling'er's background.
In Qin Shou's view, his system was very likely that man's legacy. Therefore, Ling'er must be connected to that man.
"Ling'er's origins?"
Ling'er bit her finger, her delicate brows furrowed as she struggled to recall.
After a long while, Ling'er finally spoke slowly: "Ling'er only remembers that, in the distant past, a man on the verge of ascension used immense divine power to absorb the purest Taiyin energy from between heaven and earth, creating me from the Sea of Taiyin."
"Who was that man? Do you know?"
Qin Shou immediately became interested, eagerly wanting to know that man's identity. In Qin Shou's opinion, the man Ling'er spoke of was likely the one who appeared in his dream—the one who gave him the system.
"Ling'er does not know. However, the Skill: Plucking Yin to Supplement Yang I rewarded you with earlier was something he left for me. In fact, he left me many things."
Ling'er shook her head. Her memories seemed somewhat fragmented, unable to recall more information about that man.
"There are many more good things? Damn, then hurry up and give them all to me!" Hearing there was a pile of treasures, Qin Shou immediately looked expectant.
"I cannot. He placed restrictions on me. Unless you complete the tasks I assign according to the requirements, rewards will be randomly distributed to you."
"Damn, these reclusive masters are so stingy even when giving things away, setting up such complicated processes. Can't they just give everything at once?"
Qin Shou complained with a disappointed expression.
"Master, how do you plan to deal with this demon corpse?"
Just as Qin Shou was feeling frustrated, Ling'er's words suddenly pulled his thoughts back.
"Demon corpse! Where?"
Upon hearing the words 'demon corpse,' Qin Shou was startled, instinctively jumping up. In doing so, he accidentally kicked a delicate, soft body.
Qin Shou looked down and saw a completely naked, beautiful little girl who appeared to be at most five or six years old, sleeping at his feet like an infant. The little girl's skin was like jade, delicate and flawless. Her features were exquisitely refined, as if meticulously carved by heaven, making one want to reach out and touch her tender cheeks.
"Damn, where did this kid come from!"
Qin Shou jumped back in fright, taking a few more steps back. Although the little girl was unbelievably beautiful, she gave him a somewhat eerie feeling, similar to the demon corpse.
"Master, she is the demon corpse. She suffered severe damage to her vitality, and most of her physical body was destroyed, so her realm has fallen, transforming her into a little girl," Ling'er explained in Qin Shou's mind.
"Damn! It can work like this?"
Qin Shou couldn't help but marvel. Looking down, he saw that the little girl's facial features indeed bore some resemblance to the previous demon corpse, just in a miniature version.
"Dammit, whatever. While she's weak, finish her off. Hurry up and end her with one slash."
With that, Qin Shou cautiously and shakily approached the demon corpse, intending to finish her off directly. Although the little girl looked harmless, Qin Shou dared not let his guard down. After all, she was previously an Earth Rank Peak expert. Who knew if she might suddenly wake up and catch him off guard?
[Ding, system's latest nurturing task: Take in the demon corpse, raise her to adulthood, then claim her as your exclusive concubine. Upon completion, minimum reward: Heaven Rank.]
Just as Qin Shou was about to strike, the system suddenly issued a task!
"Damn it, your grandmother's leg! Ling'er, can you not make things so perverted? Isn't this task a bit too much of a perverse taste?"
Upon hearing this task, Qin Shou's face darkened, feeling as if ten thousand grass-mud horses were galloping in his heart.
Making me take in the demon corpse is one thing, but you also want me to claim her as my exclusive concubine?
This is straight-up necrophilia! Something like sleeping with a zombie—how could I, Qin Shou, possibly do that? Where is the morality? Where is the bottom line?
"Master, task distribution is automatically calculated by the system's backend. Although Ling'er is the system spirit, I have no control over it!"
Ling'er said with a helpless expression.
"Dammit, this dog-shit system!"
Qin Shou inwardly cursed, somewhat helplessly turning to look at the little girl sleeping soundly on the ground.
It must be said, the demon corpse was indeed unbelievably beautiful. Even at five or six years old, one could tell she would inevitably grow into a being capable of toppling nations and ruining cities.
If the demon corpse weren't a living person, Qin Shou felt he might actually consider it, reluctantly taking her into his fold. After all, such a beauty becoming his exclusive concubine would be quite a delightful thing.
"Mama!"
Just as Qin Shou's mind was filled with wild thoughts, the little girl suddenly woke up. Her beautiful big eyes stared at Qin Shou with a harmless expression.
"Are you my mama?"
The little girl's voice was soft, sweet, and clear, like heavenly music.
"I'm not your mama. Look at me, I'm a pure manly man. Do I look like your mama?"
Seeing that the demon corpse seemed to remember nothing and posed no apparent threat, Qin Shou immediately relaxed.
"No, you don't," the little girl shook her head.
"Then who are you to me?"
"I—!"
Qin Shou was stunned, momentarily unsure how to answer. Suddenly remembering the system's task, a mischievous idea came to him. He decided to tease the little girl who was once the demon corpse.
"Hehe, I'm your future husband. You're my child bride."
"Future husband? What is that?"
The little girl looked puzzled, unfamiliar with the term 'future husband' that Qin Shou mentioned.
"You're still young now, you'll understand later. Anyway, a wife must listen to her husband, understand? From now on, you'll follow me. You'll do whatever I tell you to do, got it?"
"Oh, okay, husband."
The little girl nodded vigorously.
