47: Chapter 47: An Army Composed of Four Kinds of Creatures
After a series of strange cries rang out, a scent of damp, decaying ocean surged forth.
A group of hunched, shambling Fishmen came running out of the passage, howling, as if something powerful were chasing them from behind...
These Fishmen seemed to have been driven to the battlefield the moment they crawled out of the sea; the ferocity and wildness in their eyes had not yet faded, and their bodies radiated an instinctive craving for slaughter and plunder!
The Fishmen reeked of rotting seaweed, and their slimy, mucus-covered skin still emitted a cold, pale blue luster even under the warm sunlight...
A breeze carried the scent of the Fishmen toward the Moonlight Elves; even from two kilometers away, they could smell the strong, fishy stench.
Angel and Thranduil made no other moves, simply watching this group of "ferocious" Fishmen, who looked ugly and kept staring at them with bloodthirsty gazes.
Angel shook her head. "Disorganized stragglers, a rabble..."
Although there were many Fishmen and their vicious expressions looked intimidating, their actual combat power was pathetic.
There was no helping it; the Fishmen were small in stature and not agile, and the combat power of a single Fishman was too low...
Even an ordinary Tier-1 human could easily kill a Tier-1 Fishman without taking a scratch!
The Tier-1 Fishmen in this army were wielding crude weapons made of wood and vines, while only the Tier-2 Fishmen held sharp fish bones that had been slightly polished...
Thranduil did not signal the Elves to attack, as he saw that even after the entire Fishman army had emerged from the passage, they were in no hurry to charge toward them. However, Angel and Thranduil did not lower their guard...
The Main God had said that this test would not be that simple, and it was impossible for the enemy to be just a group of weak Fishmen...
Sure enough, after the entire Fishman army had walked out of the passage, a relatively organized troop of Kobold slowly emerged from the passage with scattered steps...
The Kobold in the front row of this troop were only carrying wooden sticks and wore no armor, but as more of the troop emerged from the passage, the equipment on the subsequent Kobold became increasingly sophisticated. The Tier-3 Kobold in the last row were even fully clad in heavy armor, wielding ferocious maces...
These Tier-3 Kobold had steady eyes and lacked the wildness of the Tier-1 Kobold in the front rows; they were clearly elites baptized by war!
Before the Elves could recover from their shock at the well-equipped Tier-3 Kobold, the third batch of enemies continued to emerge from the passage...
This batch of enemies was a mixed unit composed of Gnoll and Tigermen. There were fewer Tigermen in the unit, but they acted as leaders, managing the more numerous Gnoll.
Lin Ye watched these Gnoll with curiosity; they seemed quite different from the Gnoll he had seen before...
Although these Gnoll had the same coarse and messy fur, their robust bodies were not something those scrawny wild Gnoll could compare to!
Lin Ye rubbed his chin, thinking to himself, "Did Lin Hai add extra ingredients just for me? Are the enemies used for the freshman test supposed to be this fierce?"
If the enemies faced by the other students were like this too, they wouldn't be afraid of traumatizing their "tender" Believers...
The equipment on these Gnoll was also adjusted according to their own strength. Tier-1 Gnoll had no rights in the tribe and could only go empty-handed or carry crude wooden sticks, but their robust bodies glowed with a bronze color under the sunlight, and combined with the sharp claws in their hands, they were the best weapons the Gnoll had...
After the Gnoll walked out of the passage, seeing the Moonlight Elves waiting in battle formation on the opposite side, they instinctively let out bursts of shrill, provocative howls toward the Elves. The Gnoll's howling was ear-piercing, like sharp steel needles piercing directly through the Elves' eardrums, attempting to stir up fear in the hearts of the Elves!
In stark contrast to the frantically howling Gnoll, the leading Tigermen stood calmly beside the Gnoll. They did not roar at the Elves, but their tiger eyes, filled with fighting spirit, stared intently at the Elves opposite. Their strong bodies, several sizes larger than the robust Gnoll, carried heavy and powerful breaths, causing the air pressure around them to gradually drop, making even the howling of the Gnoll subside significantly in the low pressure...
When the last Tigerman stepped out of the passage, the battlefield fell into a brief silence, with only the slightly heavy breathing of both sides occasionally echoing...
No enemies more powerful than the Tigermen emerged from behind the passage, and seeing this, Angel and Thranduil breathed a sigh of relief...
The army opposite, composed of four species—Fishmen, Kobold, Gnoll, and Tigermen—possessed strengths ranging from Tier-1 to Tier-3! Especially with over a dozen Tier-3 Tigermen, this battle was still barely winnable...
If even fiercer enemies than the Tigermen were to emerge from the passage later, Thranduil felt that he would have to take action himself to have a chance of winning, but the losses for the Elves would be enormous...
The three alien units that came out of the passage did not swarm toward the Elves all at once; they tacitly and automatically divided themselves into four square formations based on their species and stood quietly...
Lin Ye watched what was happening at the passage with a calm face from the clouds, and seeing this, he secretly breathed a sigh of relief in his heart...
Lin Hai, who looked like a warm-hearted guy, actually had a quite mischievous personality; as expected, he pulled a prank full of bad taste on everyone in the test...
Before the battle had even started, he released all the enemies for the test at once. He wouldn't fight you, but he would scare you first... It's outrageous...
Shouldn't a normal test be like leveling up by fighting monsters in novels, where the second wave of enemies only appears after you finish fighting the first wave that surged out of the passage?
Sure enough, Lin Ye's guess about the format of the test was soon verified...
The massive army composed of these four races opposite them was like a surging black tide, exuding a chilling aura. Yet they were as if imprisoned in place by some kind of energy; the Gnoll also stopped howling, and the entire space seemed to have been frozen...
Without waiting too long, a small squad composed of 10 Tier-1 Fishmen split off from the Fishman army on the right.
These Fishmen were soaking wet, and their dark green scales shimmered with an eerie luster under the sunlight.
After breaking away from the Fishman army, these 10 little Fishmen seemed to have broken free from some kind of restraint, immediately opening their large mouths to howl like ghosts, and then, driven by instinct, they charged toward the direction of the Elves...
