220: Chapter 220 The Silver Serpent Wizard's Tower! Aurora's Investigation and Tracking!

Ascalon, Tower District.

This district is located in the northwest corner of the city, on higher ground, and is the area with the most abundant concentration of magic in the entire city.

There are over a dozen towering Wizard Towers here.

Among these towers, there is one that is a deep, silver-grey color throughout. The surface of the tower has no superfluous decorations, only a smooth, flowing line of runes spiraling up along the tower, like a silver snake coiling around it.

Around the tower, a semi-transparent barrier can be faintly seen rippling, shrouding the entire tower and isolating it from outside prying eyes and disturbances.

At this moment, in a room on the top floor of the tower.

"My Lord, the Second Young Lady has selected a contract lord and has left Ascalon."

"Oh? Which house is it?"

"According to the Second Young Lady's message, it is a Count from the northern territory of the Augustus Empire, Count Golden Flame."

Upon hearing this, Declan Winfield turned his head to look at the butler, a flash of surprise in his eyes:

"Just a Count?"

The butler nodded affirmatively:

"Yes, my Lord."

Declan was silent for a moment, his brows slightly furrowed, as if contemplating something.

But soon, his furrowed brows slowly relaxed, and he sighed softly:

"Forget it, let her be. The path of a wizard must always be walked by oneself. No matter how good the path pointed out by others is, it is ultimately not one's own."

After speaking, he turned back around, looking out the window at the brightly lit city of Ascalon in the night, and said no more.

One day later, Gino County, Lorne Town.

Rowan stepped into this dead, silent town once again.

The faint scent of blood in the air had not yet completely dissipated.

He brought Aurora through several streets and went straight to the old well in the southeast corner of the town.

"It's here." Rowan stood by the well, pointing to the old well built of bluestone:

"There was originally a blood source tributary node under this well, but by the time I discovered it, the energy inside had already been drained. The deaths of most of the residents in the town should be related to this."

Aurora nodded, not answering immediately.

She stepped forward, crouched by the well, stretched out her hand, hovered it over the mouth of the well, and closed her eyes.

A layer of extremely faint, silver-white light emanated from her palm, pouring down from her fingertips and seeping into the darkness of the well.

She maintained this motionless posture for about a dozen breaths.

Then, she opened her eyes, withdrew her hand, and said with a certain tone:

"It is indeed the technique of the Red Moon school of spirit summoning.

"The caster used the blood source tributary node under this well as an anchor to set up a small spirit summoning ritual, extracting the life force of the entire town and transmitting it elsewhere through the node."

"The technique is very seasoned; it is not something a novice could achieve."

As she said this, she took out a transparent crystal prism, held it in her palm, and closed her eyes to sense again.

A moment later, she opened her eyes, a look of surprise appearing on her face:

"Rowan, do you have that blood ash bone conch with you? Lend it to me for a moment!"

Rowan took out the dark red conch from his silver star ring and handed it over.

Aurora took the conch, walked to the well, aimed the opening of the conch at the well, and began to chant an awkward incantation in a low voice.

As she chanted, the spiral patterns on the surface of the blood ash bone conch began to slowly glow.

The light flowed along the patterns like a living thing, and then a very thin thread shot out from the opening, shooting straight into the darkness of the well.

A moment later, the thread seemed to touch something and began to tremble slightly.

Aurora's eyes lit up, her voice filled with excitement: "There is still residual aura! Although it is very weak, it hasn't completely dissipated yet!"

She continued chanting for a moment, then put away the conch, stood up, and turned to Rowan:

"I know whose handiwork this is. Among the wizards active in the northern territory, I only know one person who uses this style of spirit summoning ritual: Wizard Harrison.

"He is one of the contract wizards of the Black Rock Duke Manor, and he has deep research in the Red Moon field. However..."

Her brows furrowed slightly:

"He himself probably wouldn't come to do this kind of dirty work personally. The one who acted is very likely his disciple."

After listening, Rowan said softly:

"Wizard Harrison... is he a White Wizard or a Black Wizard? If he is a contract wizard of the Black Rock Duke Manor, doesn't that mean..."

Aurora smiled somewhat awkwardly upon hearing this:

"Rowan, you know, people like wizards... positions are often not black and white."

"Even if they do bad things, if they aren't caught or discovered on the spot, then they are White Wizards..."

"As for what they have done in private, only they themselves know."

Rowan understood in his heart and stopped pursuing this question, turning instead to ask:

"Then can we still track the whereabouts of that caster?"

Aurora looked down at the blood ash bone conch in her hand, which was still glowing faintly, closed her eyes to sense it, and then opened them:

"Yes, we can. Although this residual aura is already very weak, it has not completely dissipated."

"If it were half a day later, I'm afraid no traces would be left at all. Follow me!"

After saying this, she held the conch and walked out of the town first.

The dark red light on the surface of the conch changed brightness slightly as she moved, as if guiding her. Rowan and Garuvi followed closely behind.

The three of them tracked on horseback all the way.

Aurora was in the lead, sometimes fast, sometimes slow, occasionally stopping to look down at the changes in the conch's light, and then adjusting the direction.

Her expression was focused, a stark contrast to her usual lively demeanor.

After tracking for about half a day, the three arrived at the side of a wide small river.

The river was about ten meters wide, the water flow was gentle, and both banks were covered with dense reeds and wild grass.

Aurora stopped at the riverbank, looking down at the blood ash bone conch in her hand.

The dark red light on the surface of the conch dimmed slightly. She looked up towards the other side of the river:

"The aura concentration is lower here. The caster must have crossed the river from here and headed north."

Rowan and Garuvi looked at each other upon hearing this, and both of their expressions changed slightly.

Rowan spoke slowly:

"Opposite... is Cangyuan Territory."

Aurora was slightly stunned upon hearing this:

"Ah? Then... can we not investigate further?"

Rowan shook his head, his gaze falling on the land on the other side of the river, which appeared exceptionally vast and desolate in the twilight.

He was silent for a moment, then turned to Aurora and asked, "Can you pinpoint the exact location of that caster?"

Aurora thought for a moment: "That's not certain; we need to keep following the traces left by the other party, but there's no telling where the trail might break..."

Rowan fell into deep thought upon hearing this.

It now seemed that the tragedy in Lorne Town was very likely committed by a wizard under the command of Duke Weiduns Estate.

But once they stepped onto the land of Cangyuan Territory, if they couldn't finish the battle quickly, it would be easy to fall into a passive situation.

He turned and looked at Garuvi beside him.

She was looking in the direction of Cangyuan Territory across the river, a complex light in her beautiful eyes.

She felt Rowan's gaze, was silent for a moment, and then nodded gently without speaking.

Rowan withdrew his gaze and said to Aurora:

"Then, keep chasing!"
