47: Chapter 47 Why were they fighting so desperately?
The Cangyun Ridge Battlefield.
Yang Fan and Li Yunlong suddenly appeared.
Zhang Dabiao and several soldiers standing guard here were startled and raised their rifles one after another.
They lowered their guns upon seeing it was Li Yunlong, but they still looked at Yang Fan warily.
"Everyone, don't be nervous. This is a little brother of mine, Yang Fan."
"He provided all these weapons. Everyone must keep this a secret."
"Alright, call the men over. Quickly distribute these weapons to every squad and get familiar with them. We're about to start our breakout!"
Everyone began to spring into action.
"Zhang Dabiao."
"Present!"
"You protect this little brother of mine. If anything happens to him, I'll twist your head off and kick it like a ball!"
"Yes, sir!"
Zhang Dabiao also knew how important Yang Fan was; when the Regiment Commander had vanished earlier, they had been incredibly anxious.
He hadn't expected that in just a short while, they would obtain so many weapons and so much ammunition.
Moreover, the Regiment Commander had said this man was their benefactor, so he naturally had to protect him with his life.
Zhang Dabiao didn't care what the benefactor was doing on the battlefield; even if he was just here to take a crap, he had to be well-protected.
The counterattack was launched quickly. Twenty mortars were deployed along with a large number of automatic firearms, advancing rapidly.
The Sakata Regiment was caught off guard. They had thought this unit was out of ammunition and already in the bag, never expecting such intense firepower.
Li Yunlong also quickly advanced to his intended position.
Over a dozen mortars launched a saturation attack on the Sakata Regiment's headquarters.
Yang Fan, staying in the rear, only fired one shot, taking out a machine gun nest.
It was mainly because these soldiers were too fierce.
They charged straight through a hail of bullets!
Yang Fan was stunned.
This was his first time on a battlefield, and although his physical fitness was excellent...
...he didn't have the courage to charge like that amidst the roar of guns and artillery.
"Zhang Dabiao, why do you think they're risking their lives like this?"
"Many of them have no homes left. They're the only ones left in their families."
"Their families were all killed by the Japs."
"National enmity. Family grudges!"
Yang Fan fell silent. He felt they must also have a kind of conviction.
The conviction to trade a life for a life just to wear down these Little Japs.
The ancestors really had it too hard.
This was just fighting the Japs with less advanced weapons; one could only imagine how difficult it must have been fighting the Americans over in Korea.
Soon the troop fought their way out, and they were even chasing the enemy down, as the difference in weapon performance was simply too great.
It was also the first time the soldiers had used such advanced weapons, and they pinned the enemy down so they couldn't even lift their heads.
A single burst of bullets suppressed the enemy completely.
A high-explosive grenade thrown at a heavy fire point had a killing radius of up to 20 meters, wiping out everyone at the position.
"Brother Yang, what kind of grenade is this? It's way too powerful!"
Zhang Dabiao watched from a distance through binoculars, drooling. With this stuff, in the future, one would be enough to blow up any pillbox or blockhouse.
"It's just called a high-explosive grenade. I don't know much about weapons either."
"Oh, can I have one of those spinning guns? That gun looks so fun to use!"
Zhang Dabiao kept swallowing his saliva. If Yang Fan weren't so important, he would have rushed up to grab one and start spraying bullets himself.
He still preferred machine guns. Although the gun in Yang Fan's hand was decent and powerful, it killed too slowly—not good!
Yang Fan vanished briefly and returned with a Gatling Gun and plenty of ammunition.
"This gun is very fierce, but it's easy to draw concentrated fire from the enemy."
Yang Fan had just seen someone get targeted by the enemy's mortar positions.
"It's fine, I'll be charging while holding this gun!"
Zhang Dabiao gave a foolish grin. This benefactor was just too generous, and he didn't even have money or gold to give him.
"Brother Yang, do you like the women from the Jap side? I'll catch one for you in a few days!"
This was all Zhang Dabiao could think of; after all, Yang Fan wasn't in their army, so there were many regulations he didn't have to follow.
For a split second, Yang Fan actually considered it, but then decided against it. Although the Japs weren't human, there was no need to take his anger out on women.
It would be enough to simply wipe out their men.
"Forget it. I like watching their 'works,' but the actual people aren't necessary."
Zhang Dabiao didn't understand, but he knew Yang Fan wasn't interested.
The two of them saw through the binoculars that the Sakata headquarters had been destroyed, so Yang Fan and Zhang Dabiao headed toward its location together.
Li Yunlong saw Yang Fan and approached him warmly.
"Brother Yang, I don't have anything good right now, only a General's Sword. It's yours!"
Li Yunlong just wanted to curry favor with Yang Fan now.
This man was a VIP; he didn't want gold bars, he only liked antiques and calligraphy.
Those things were actually quite easy to get.
Plus, the equipment Yang Fan provided was too advanced—long range, high precision, and devastating power.
He saw that many of the enemies weren't even left in human shape.
He wouldn't be able to look at Jap equipment the same way again.
Yang Fan took it and looked it over.
"It's just average!"
Still, Yang Fan put it away; it had some commemorative value.
However, it was far inferior to Emperor Taizong of Tang's sword.
Li Yunlong's mouth twitched.
"You kid, this is a General's Sword no matter how you look at it, and you're actually looking down on it."
"My superiors would love to have one and can't!"
"A broken sword. They'll be common as dirt in the future."
Yang Fan said disdainfully.
Li Yunlong thought about it and felt it made sense; with Yang Fan's weapons, they would capture more and more in the future.
"Brother Yang, are you going back, or coming with me?"
"I'll be heading back. If you have stuff, put it in the space. If you need anything, just leave me a note."
Yang Fan knew this guy was likely going to be dismissed from his post, so they probably wouldn't be trading for a while.
Yang Fan found a secluded spot and returned directly to the villa.
After going upstairs, Tang Xue was sitting in the living room.
Tang Xue sniffed as she saw Yang Fan; there was a scent of blood in the air, and a heavy smell of gunpowder.
It was as if he had just taken a stroll through a battlefield; she was all too familiar with that smell.
Didn't he just come here to buy a house? What was going on?
"Where is Li Anlan?"
"She went to tidy up your room."
"I don't have the habit of cleaning up rooms for adulterous couples."
Tang Xue knew what was going on the moment she entered the room.
"Who told me to be so charming!"
"This damn charm of mine, I'm going to love myself to death!"
Yang Fan wasn't a person who cared about face; a few remarks didn't bother him.
"She's just after your money. And look at you, covered in the smell of blood and gunpowder."
"Oh?"
Yang Fan sniffed himself. There was indeed a smell of gunpowder, but no blood.
This woman's sense of smell was quite sharp; he had indeed been soaking in the scent of blood for a while.
"Oh, I went to slaughter a few pigs. It's normal to have a bit of a smell."
Yang Fan was getting somewhat used to dead people. He would have vomited the first time, but after seeing so many this time, he didn't—perhaps because he didn't view the enemy as human at all.
Yang Fan picked up his phone and transferred money to the account Jiang Lan had sent; water was quite easy to buy.
Tang Xue frowned deeply.
It seemed Long Aotian was right; this person was very abnormal. From morning until now, this man had switched between two different battlefields!
