7: Chapter 7: A New Chapter

After exiting the space, Yang Fan hurried home without a moment's delay.

He had to get his grandmother to the hospital immediately. This time, he wouldn't go to the city hospital; he would go to a larger one. After all, she had been receiving treatment at the city hospital for so long, and it was barely keeping her alive.

Just before reaching home, he saw a figure sitting by the side of the road from a distance, watching him.

In this scorching sun—no wonder his grandmother looked so much darker than the last few times he had seen her.

Perhaps during the days he wasn't home, his grandmother often gazed down the road he usually took to return, lost in thought!

Yang Fan walked up to his grandmother and helped her up.

"Let's go, Grandma. Let's pack up and go to the hospital!"

"I'm fine now. I'm not going. Our family doesn't have any money left."

"We do. I bought a lottery ticket yesterday on a whim, and I didn't expect to actually win. It's several hundred thousand!"

Yang Fan didn't say too much, fearing the old woman wouldn't be able to handle it.

"Even so, I'm not going. Keep the money to get married. I'm already 80 years old; I've lived long enough."

Yang Fan's excuse was clearly not believed by his grandmother; she likely thought her grandson had borrowed money from somewhere, and she couldn't let him be burdened any further.

"Let's go. You have to listen to me!"

Yang Fan simply carried his grandmother on his back and headed home.

This time, Yang Fan also brought his father along. After all, he couldn't stay by his grandmother's side 24 hours a day; he still had to contact Emperor Taizong of Tang about purchasing the grain.

He also needed to figure out how to sell some of the gold from the Tang Dynasty and the calligraphy from Emperor Taizong of Tang and the others.

Yang Fan's first choice was naturally Shanghai, as he had attended university there and was familiar with the city. Besides, if he needed to acquire weapons to take abroad, it would be more convenient.

Furthermore, Yang Fan himself needed a larger hospital to re-evaluate whether he was truly suffering from kidney failure. If he was, he would likely need to put in a lot of effort to treat it.

After a whole night of persuading his grandmother, the three of them boarded the high-speed train to Shanghai the next day.

Emperor Taizong of Tang was indeed very efficient; by evening, Yang Fan had already received three pieces of calligraphy, all of which were incredibly beautiful.

Moreover, after being taken out of the space, the calligraphy looked as if it had been preserved from a thousand years ago. He hadn't paid much attention to the gold.

Although Yang Fan didn't know much about calligraphy, he nodded as he looked at these pieces; they were indeed well-written.

He just didn't know how much they were worth!

It was already evening when they arrived in Shanghai. Yang Fan wasn't in a rush to go to the hospital, as he had dealt with hospitals quite often in the past.

He needed to find a reliable doctor to re-examine his grandmother.

He first arranged for his father and grandmother to stay at a hotel, left his father with twenty thousand in cash, and then went out.

He needed to contact an auction house to authenticate and auction the calligraphy, and then rent a storage facility; otherwise, where would he transport the rice he planned to buy?

Once outside, Yang Fan made a phone call.

"Hello, do you know any good cardiologists in Shanghai?"

"Huh? I do. My dad has heart disease, and his attending physician is very skilled!"

"What's going on with you? You look full of energy every day; are you having heart problems too?"

Bai Jingtian was very surprised. In his impression, Yang Fan was either in class, moving bricks, or on his way to move bricks—full of raw energy. How could someone like that have heart problems?

"No, it's my grandmother."

"Oh, do you have enough money on you? If not, I can ask my dad to help you out with some."

"No need. I already owe you quite a bit of money. I calculated it, and it's 122,000 in total. I'll transfer it to your bank card."

"Don't bother. If I run out of pocket money, I just give my dad a few cigarettes and he gives me some. You need it more for your family situation."

Although Bai Jingtian's family wasn't exceptionally wealthy, his father ran an advertising company and earned a decent amount each year; they had a house and a car in Shanghai.

"Business is business. How can I not pay back borrowed money? I've already transferred it to you."

"Besides, I've made a little money recently, so I have funds on hand!"

Bai Jingtian looked at the notification on his phone and said in surprise:

"You didn't go and do anything shady, did you?"

"Selling yourself?"

"Or did a wealthy woman keep you?"

"Do you want me to help you buy your freedom?"

Yang Fan's face darkened. Couldn't this guy think of something better?

"Antiques. I found a bargain and made a good profit. Your mind is in the gutter!"

"Ask your dad for that doctor's number and set up an appointment. I'll take my grandmother there tomorrow to get her checked out."

"Sure, I'll send it to you on WeChat in a bit. I remember you went back to your hometown to find a job; you've switched to the antique trade, huh?"

"Pretty much. I guess I'll be working in this industry from now on."

Yang Fan felt helpless. His first trading partner was Emperor Taizong of Tang, whose items were all considered antiques. It was inevitable that he'd be involved in the antique business.

"Well, be careful. I've heard that 80 percent of the items in the antique market are fake."

"Yeah, I know. Remember to send me the doctor's phone number."

"I'll send it to you in a bit. Want to grab a meal together? Bring your girlfriend along to hang out."

"We broke up. She looked down on me for having no future."

"I'll treat you in a few days, once I've settled my grandmother in."

"Alright, I'll wait for your news. I've been bored to death recently; I was even planning to travel to visit you."

"Okay, wait for my word!"

After saying that, Yang Fan hung up the phone.

In truth, Yang Fan longed for affection. After all, his parents had divorced when he was young, and his father hadn't fulfilled his parental responsibilities. Although his grandparents provided familial love, it could never replace the love of his parents.

That was why Yang Fan had cherished that relationship so much. However, when he was diagnosed with kidney failure, he decided to give it up. After all, his family was already a mess, and with his own condition, it was best not to drag the other person down.

But now he had the system by his side and was no longer short on money. Even though he might still have kidney failure, he believed he wouldn't be a burden to anyone now.

Yang Fan took out his phone and called Xu Jing.

A moment later, the call connected.

"Ya—Yang Fan, is something wrong?"

Yang Fan found it a bit strange. Why did it sound like she was running? She was even panting heavily.

"I've come to Shanghai. Do you want to go out for a meal!"

"Ah, ah!"

"Let's skip today. I have an important client to accompany. Let's do it another day!"

Yang Fan looked at the hung-up phone, frowning.

Both of them had studied finance, and their career paths were in fields like banking, finance, and fund companies.

Do these types of jobs require accompanying clients?

Could it really be what Teacher Xuefeng said?

Yang Fan didn't dwell on it. Since they had broken up, he wouldn't think about it so much.

He had already looked back once, and he would no longer linger.

You only have one first love at 18, but aren't there 18-year-old girls every year?

Yang Fan found a fairly large agency. He was preparing to hire an assistant. After all, he knew how to buy things, but this was his first time buying in such large quantities.

He needed to find an assistant to help him.

It would be best if they had studied abroad and knew how to buy foreign goods.

It would be best if she were a beauty; after all, having someone easy on the eyes around every day would be nice.

It would be best if she had fair skin, a tall figure, and no dating experience!!!
