Chapter 167: Dhaevrak VS The Remnant [3]

Haden’s expression hardened, he tightened his jaw and swung his spear much more furiously than before.The Remnant blocked his attacks with his dark katana; each clash sent a destructive ripple through him, but he still had a wide grin stretching across his face. He could feel Haden’s desperation to ignore him, to not falter, but he had more to say.

Haden spun his spear and threw a punch. The Remnant ducked down and swung the katana in an upward motion. Haden shifted his body to the side, veins bulged across his arm, and he thrust forward.

The Remnant struck the incoming thrust to the side with all of his physical might. The collision sent a destructive wave outwards, and serpentine fractures appeared on the ground, and both of them were sent skidding back.

The Remnant’s monstrous feet scraped the ground as he came to a stop and asked in a melodious voice, "Dost thou wish to know how one becomes a god?"

Haden ignored him, stepped forward and attacked again.

The air around him began to tremble, and cracks appeared in Haden’s aura dome as he was finding it hard to keep his mind stable.

He wanted the answer. He wanted to transcend his limits. That was the only way for him to become strong enough to defeat them. Haden was the strongest human, but that alone wasn’t enough to defeat—

"Art thou thinking of them?" The Remnant hissed in amusement.

Haden’s expression darkened, his viscous aura solidified into countless spears, and all of them flew at the horrid being like beams of red light.

The Remnant let out a chuckle similar to the rattle of bones. The purple flames around him twisted and turned into chains.

Within a moment, the aura spears reached him, but just as they were about to crash into him, the flame chains shot at them and wrapped around them.

Haden moved at the same time; he appeared before him and thrusted, focusing a heavy amount of aura on the tip of his spear.

Remnant pulled back his katana. Purple flames erupted at the edge, and he swung.

The weapons met, and a gust strong enough to cut through the trees burst out. The world shook as the two weapons ground against each other.

The red aura spears and the purple flame chains disappeared as they poured more of the aura and flame into the weapons.

Amidst the clash, The Remnant grinned and said, "Dost thou know why they came here fifty-seven years ago?"

The ground beneath them cried from the weight of their attacks. Haden looked into The Remnant’s eyes and hissed, "Why?"

The Remnant’s eyes gleamed in menacing joy. He asked, "Why dost thou not wish to fight them?"

Haden’s eyes turned sharp. He lifted his foot to the instant step backwards, but a flame chain erupted from the ground and grabbed onto him.

Haden glanced at it with displeasure and jerked his leg to set himself free from its grip.

"War. Dost thou truly believe thou can slay those three miscreants with the strength thou hast?" Asked The Remnant.

A solemn expression much deeper than ever before appeared on the Sovereign’s face, and he mumbled, "I will find the way."

Their relentless attacks continued without a shred of rest in between, and The Remnant could feel that his words had finally breached into Haden’s conscience.

"Find a way?" He spat. "Dost thou even hear thyself?"

Haden didn’t answer; his attacks became much more frenzied.

The Remnant shook his head and said, "Those three are our enemies. They are the ones who have committed the gravest of sins. Yet instead of acting for the Monarch, thou standest here, fighting one of his sons."

Just as those words reached Haden’s ears, an unfathomable amount of killing intent flooded out of him. The Remnant felt his domain go weak, and Haden growled threateningly, "You speak as if you didn’t kill many of the crimson army for your dastardly schemes."

A strange sheen crossed The Remnant’s eyes, and he spoke in a surprised tone, "Thou knowest that name..."

Haden lifted his leg and stomped onto the ground.

The ground quaked, and fissures spread outwards from the point of impact.

The Remnant’s world shook violently, and Haden said, "Do not try your sweet words on me, ghost. No one can become a god anymore."

’He grew stronger?’ The Remnant was left baffled by the sudden increase in Haden’s strength until he sensed the golden sparks around him.

"How?" He wondered and muttered in disbelief, "Thou... thou art not a Sovereign. Thou art a Half‑God."

Haden’s lips lifted into a faint smile, and he asked, "How do you think I came to know of the limits placed on us? I simply felt its existence for myself."

The Remnant was left speechless. Even before the dark time, barely one out of millions was able to become a god, but Haden had become one now. The time when such a thing should’ve been impossible.

’He would have already become a god, had the connection to the Celestia not been blocked by the Monarch of the Dark Throne...’ The Remnant remarked inwardly.

The sudden revelation of Haden’s true strength had caused his movement to falter, and sensing the opportunity, the aura behind Haden began to converge at five spots in the sky around them.

AZURE ASCENDING SPEAR — SUMMIT’S MEET!

The aura twisted and took the form of five red eastern dragons. The aura dragons shook both of the domains with their roar, and The Remnant, sensing his mistake, plunged his katana into the ground.

Countless purple flame chains shot from the ground and swirled around him like a barrier.

The five dragons crashed into the ground, and a shockwave spread throughout the ground and the sky.

An enormous crater appeared around the cracked dome of the chains.

The chains rattled and fell apart, revealing The Remnant, whose flames were a bit dimmer, and purple cracks were running throughout his body.

He fell on a knee, looked at Haden with eyes full of hatred and spat, "Dost thou truly believe thou art strong enough to stand against the True Gods?! When the barrier falls, they will come for you all!!"
