Chapter 180: Dhaevrak VS The Remnant [16]

Rion, who was completely focused on the conceptual firmament of breaking, wasn’t able to hear The Remnant.The fissures around The Remnant’s body widened as he clenched his fist, purple flames erupted from the cracks, and a flaming katana appeared in his hand.

The flame at the tip of the katana spiralled, and he thrust forward.

ALL DEVOURING SWORD — HEAVEN EATER!

Dark, devilish teeth emerged across the surface of the sword, and he buried it deep into Rion’s abdomen.

Rion’s concentration shattered at once as the fangs of The Remnant’s katana began tearing through him from within.

He stared at The Remnant with quivering eyes, his hold weakening as blood slipped from the corner of his mouth.

The Remnant tightened his other fist. Another katana appeared within it, and he drove it into Rion’s chest.

Purple flames began to ravage Rion’s body, mirroring how Rion’s aura had been devouring The Remnant’s form.

Rion’s jaw cracked open, a scream threatened to escape him, but before it could, purple flame burst out from his mouth, his eye sockets, his nose, his ears... from everywhere.

Cracks similar to those of The Remnant’s spread across Rion’s burnt body.

A merciless grin tore across The Remnant’s face. He withdrew his katanas and slashed at Rion before Immortal Body could heal him.

The first cut carved a bloody cross into his chest. The second severed his left arm. The third cleaved through his right thigh.

Rion’s spear slipped out of his grip, he stumbled backwards, and The Remnant followed, his cracks widening with each moment.

Golden threads writhed from Rion’s wounds as his body began to restore itself, but before the healing could finish, The Remnant’s blade sliced through his waist, splitting his body in two.

He seized Rion’s neck, hurled him skyward, then kicked and chopped his lower body into countless fragments before reducing them to ash with purple flame.

Rion’s upper half hovered in the air for a moment before it began to fall, and now The Remnant’s entire body was riddled with purple cracks, yet he still retained some control over himself.

Golden threads shot out of Rion’s body as it began to heal once again. The Remnant raised his katanas, both burning intensely.

Rion, who was completely healed, twisted midair.

Golden flames erupted across his fist, and he punched downwards.

His aura twisted around him and took the form of a colossal golden serpent with its jaws wide open.

AZURE ASCENDING FIST — SERPENT’S BITE!

The Remnant’s grin widened even further as he thrust both katanas upward.

The purple fire spiralled, shaping itself into a monstrous spider, its eight legs crashing toward Rion.

ALL DEVOURING SWORD — WEAVER’S PIERCE!

The attacks collided. The golden serpent clamped its massive jaws around the purple spider, while the spider’s legs stabbed deep into the serpent’s body.

Rion’s descent continued, the thrust pierced further inside his body, and cracks appeared across The Remnant’s solidified flames as his punch struck it.

A heavy gust swept through the scorched forest.

Rion landed on his feet, wiggling holes riddling his body, and threw The Remnant’s severed arm aside.

The Remnant, who was missing an arm, stared at Rion with a calm smile and muttered, "You have won, Prince... I can no longer continue this act of mine..."

He looked at the sky and whispered, "All of it was for nothing..."

Confusion covered Rion’s face, and he asked, "What are you talking about?"

The Remnant lowered his head, met Rion’s gaze, and said, "I am s—" However, before he could finish, his body erupted into a torrent of purple flame.

At the sight of the torrent, a shiver ran down Rion’s spine. He quickly formed multiple layers of aura dome around himself and shouted, "Do not break!" To strengthen them even further.

The violet inferno surged outward, and within moments, it filled the entire crater.

"Blasted hell..." he grunted.

The fragile layers of the aura dome began to crack under the heat and weight of the purple flame.

He closed his eyes, created more aura domes and yelled, "Do not break!"

Absolute Will awakened once again and strengthened the aura domes around him, but even the strengthened domes were falling apart easily.

With each aura dome that fell, he created a new one and yelled, "Do not break!"

Rion’s aura reservoir, which was just below half, was nearly depleted within a few moments of recreating the aura domes. Even though Rion was immortal. For some unknown reason, he felt like these flames could end him... so he had decided to defend against them instead of letting his body adapt to them.

While he was doing so, he was also replaying the last moments of The Remnant in his head. ’Why did he say that?’

Suddenly, the purple flames filling the vast crater converged toward the Corrupted Abysmal Flame.

Rion sensed the shift immediately. His eyes snapped open as he looked at the Corrupted Abysmal Flame floating in the air, with a chain — The Remnant’s true body — revolving around it.

His eyes narrowed as he focused, and after observing for several moments, he muttered, "Why is it getting bigger...?"

The flame expanded with every passing second, and once it grew to the size of an adult human’s head, fire burst from its base and began to twist around.

The swirling flames soon moulded into a humanoid form. Horns of fire and a blazing tail emerged, and at last, two ravenous eyes shone from its head, within which the chain coiled around the Corrupted Abysmal Flame like a dark halo.

The flame monster suddenly spread its arms wide and released a soul-freezing shriek, flames pouring from its maw.

Rion clenched his teeth. "What the hell is this—"

The flame monster vanished from its position. The space between Rion and the creature split apart as it appeared before him in an instant and slashed at his head.

Rion’s eyes widened, but before the monster’s claws could reach him, a hand seized its head and hurled it away from him.
