Chapter 174: Dhaevrak VS The Remnant [10]

Rion crashed into the ground and rolled for a few moments before coming to a stop.A displeased groan escaped from his lips as he forced himself to stand up. Just as he stepped forward, his burnt flesh and the wounds all over his body began to heal at an unimaginable rate.

Muscles, vines, and skin were stitched back in place by the golden threads wiggling out of his wounds, and he muttered, "It seems to be a failure."

He sighed, and suddenly a sharp gust hit him from the left.

The six-lined monster with blade-like hands appeared on his left and swung its limbs towards him.

Rion lifted his arm and covered it in his aura to block the two blades sweeping towards him like they were guaranteed death, but unfortunately for it, Rion was immortal.

Blades struck his arm, cracks appeared across the layer of golden aura on his arm, and he kicked the blade monster at the centre of its chest.

The blade monster was sent flying. As it was in the air, Rion appeared beside it and struck the monster’s side with his hell.

The blade monster let out a gruelling scream, supposedly asking for help, but Rion’s aura alone was enough for the monsters to look away and continue advancing to the north.

Even though the humanoid monsters were stronger than kareths they didn’t have the protection of the corrupted demonic energy and were incapable of using pure demonic energy.

The Remnant had basically sacrificed utility in return for pure physical might, and it had worked in favour of the Dhaevrak because now they didn’t have to keep distance in fear of being tainted by the purple miasma.

The blade monster crashed onto the ground a few times and came to a stop, but before it could even stand up, Rion appeared, grabbed its leg and swung it around before slamming it into the ground.

A crater formed around it, and its body trembled as the pure demonic energy healed its wound.

Rion quickly walked over to it, dug his fingers into its back and pulled it apart, parting it into two.

A dark core with a glassy surface became visible, and seeing that, Rion mumbled with a raised eyebrow, "A dark crystal...? Shouldn’t it be red?"

He violently shook his hand, gripped the core and mumbled, "I have to check this," before yanking it out of the blade monster’s body in a single pull.

Just like any other monster or kareth, the blade monster’s body trembled violently for a few minutes and finally came to a stop.

At the same time, a feral roar tore through the battlefield. Varok threw the head of a six-lined spike monster to the side and dashed towards the last six-lined long-limbed monster.

On the other hand, Rion was focusing on the grade six null core that he had just obtained from the six-lined, and while checking it, he mumbled, "Its crystal is different... it has layers like a seed..."

At the west end of the battlefield, the monsters suddenly stopped advancing and began to form a wall.

The warriors, Marin and Valak, raised their confused brows at them, and a whistle echoed throughout the battlefield.

The battlefield fell silent and the whistle became louder with each passing movement announcing that something or someone was making way towards the battlefield.

Rion took his spear out of the inventory, charged it with his aura and hurled it towards the critical point that was coming close to them.

The spear tore through the battlefield and flew in the direction of the sound. The aura inside it churned and began to twist like a star.

Everyone watched the spear with bated breath.

The spear reached its destination, but just as it was about to pierce through the critical point, a sinistely familiar voice reached them, "Thou dost not stand on ceremony as thy father did."

The battle — warriors and monsters — froze. Everyone’s expression darkened. A few of the warriors lowered their heads, weapons slipped out of the grips of a few as they understood what The Remnant’s presence meant — Haden had been defeated.

Their Sovereign, the only person who had the strength to defeat The Remnant, had been slain by the Devil of Chains, so there was no point in continuing the war any further.

Dhaevrak had been defeated, and The Remnant had won.

But before such a thing could come to pass, Rion’s amused yet furious laughter broke through the gloom-filled battlefield, and the warriors of the crimson army looked at him with pity as if he had gone mad. Well, why wouldn’t he? His father had been killed, and everyone else he cared about was next.

The Remnant didn’t just want to defeat them — he wanted to turn them into his own army... an undying army, similar to that of the dark king.

However, the words that Rion was about to say made them question the validity of everything.

"So? What have you done to Father?" Rion asked with a faint smile, though veins bulging in anger could be seen all over his arms and neck.

The Remnant chuckled, took a step forward and answered with wide arms, "What else should befall a vanquished wretch?" His lips twisted into a cruel grin as he moved his hands towards Rion and announced, "I became his death!"

A soul-chilling laughter left him, and the warriors’ eyes began to lose their lustre.

Rion chuckled, lifted his hand, and his spear that had been blocked by The Remnant came flying back to him.

He pointed his spear at The Remnant and roared, "You killed him, you say? Then do tell me... why are you using that failing body instead of one of the Sovereign of Dhaevrak?"

The Remnant’s laughter ceased instantly. Everyone looked at The Remnant in confusion, hope returning to their eyes and seeing that The Remnant spat, "Why should I require the body of one weaker than I?"

Rion shrugged and asked with a tilted head, "When have you ever tried to control the body of someone stronger than you?"
