39: Chapter 39 Online Discussion
Chen Mo stood in front of his old home, his gaze fixed on the courtyard.
It had only been a month.
The weeds in front of the door had grown knee-high, and green vines climbed along the wall, covering half of it completely.
Weeds in the corner of the wall squeezed out from between the bricks.
Chen Mo squatted down, pinched a blade of grass, and gave it a gentle tug.
The roots were buried deep, and the soil brought up with them was tangled with fine white root hairs.
A month ago, these grasses were just growing flat against the ground.
Now, they were shooting straight up from the ground.
The changes could no longer be hidden.
He opened the door; everything inside was as usual, except for a thin layer of dust floating in the air.
Chen Mo spent half an hour tidying up inside and outside the house. He mopped the floor, wiped the tables, opened the windows for ventilation, and went into the courtyard to pull out a patch of the overgrown weeds.
After finishing these tasks, he turned on his phone and computer.
The screen lit up.
On the trending list, the number one topic was "Abnormally Lush Vegetation in Many Parts of the World," followed by a red "Explosive" tag.
Pinned to the top of the topic was a set of satellite comparison images—the same mountain range, at the beginning of April and mid-July.
In the April image, the mountain's outline was clear, and the vegetation coverage was normal. In the July image, the entire mountain looked as if it had been splashed with a layer of thick green paint, dense and impenetrable.
The comment section had already exploded.
"I work in a forest area, and I've never seen trees grow this fast."
"The lawn in my residential complex hasn't been mowed for a week, and it's already up to my knees."
"Has anyone noticed the sports events? World records are like paper."
Chen Mo exited the topic and opened that martial arts and combat forum.
The pinned post was still the "Summary of Refreshed Global Sports Records," but the content had grown significantly compared to ten days ago.
The men's 400-meter world record had been refreshed, the marathon had officially achieved a Breakthrough past the two-hour mark, and records in multiple events had been rewritten.
Track and field events were the most exaggerated; several world records had been improved at once, with growth margins exceeding what could be explained by normal training.
Below the post, a user named "June" posted a long comment.
"It can now be confirmed that the world has undergone some kind of change that we do not yet understand.
I have three pieces of evidence myself. First, the succulents I raise have grown significantly in the past month or two, more than they did in the previous two years.
Second, I originally had diabetes, but when I went to the hospital for a check-up yesterday, my blood sugar had completely returned to normal.
Third, I am forty-seven years old this year, and recently I have clearly felt my physical strength and energy return to the state of someone in their twenties.
This is not an illusion; it is something I have deduced by recording data every day."
There were thousands of replies under this comment.
"Me too. My rheumatoid arthritis has significantly eased in the last two months; I basically don't need to take medication anymore."
"I'm studying for my PhD abroad. Our lab published a preprint last week showing that the plant growth rate has increased by over forty percent year-on-year, but we can't find the reason."
"Has anyone noticed that the recovery speed of long-term follow-up patients in hospitals is accelerating? My mom had orthopedic surgery at the end of May. The doctor said it would take three months to get out of bed according to the normal process, but she was able to walk in six weeks."
Chen Mo continued to scroll down.
Someone posted a comparison image of a forest. The same mountain, last July and this July.
In last year's photo, there were obvious gaps between the tree crowns, and the ridgeline was clearly visible.
In this year's photo, the tree crowns were squeezed together, and the entire mountain was wrapped into a huge green velvet ball.
The person who posted the image added a sentence: "I was saying before that this was due to abnormal weather. Now I'm not sure."
In the comment section, the number of people insisting on the "weather theory" was much lower than ten days ago.
It had been replaced by all kinds of speculation.
"There must be some substance added to the air; otherwise, it's impossible to explain the global synchronization."
"Is it possible that it's Spiritual Energy Revival? Like in those novels."
"Are you serious, poster above?"
"I am serious. Plants growing wildly, human Physique strengthening, chronic diseases healing on their own—can you explain it with something else?"
"Spiritual Energy Revival is just a concept in novels; it's impossible in reality."
"Then tell me, what substance in the air can make diabetes heal on its own?"
The discussion became increasingly heated.
Chen Mo exited the forum and opened several video platforms. The topic "World Changes" had been pinned for a week, with over a billion views.
He clicked on a random video; the content was all about abnormal changes filmed by ordinary people—residential landscaping growing wildly overnight, vines covering pavilions in parks, and potted plants on balconies overflowing.
In the comment section, most people had already realized something was wrong.
"Something is definitely different."
"It's not regional; it's global."
"Let's wait for the official announcement."
But governments around the world had yet to release any official statements.
Chen Mo turned off his phone and leaned back in his chair.
He recalled the discussions he had seen online earlier, from the initial sporadic posts to later small-scale discussions, and now to the current trending topics across the entire web.
This trajectory of change was basically the same as what he had predicted a month ago.
Large-scale discussions had already begun.
Ordinary people had already felt it.
But governments around the world still hadn't acknowledged anything.
What were they waiting for?
Chen Mo thought about it and could roughly guess.
When any country faces such a global anomaly, the first reaction is definitely observation and confirmation. Data from botanical research institutes needs to be repeatedly checked, various reports need to be cross-verified, and the military and intelligence agencies need to rule out the possibility of human interference.
Only after these processes are completed will the conclusion be placed on the desks of the decision-makers.
And the decision-makers still need to consider the timing and method of disclosing information, as well as the chain reaction after the disclosure.
They must have already confirmed something.
They just haven't found the "why" yet.
Chen Mo knew very well that in the current world, there should be no instruments capable of detecting the existence of spirit energy particles and dispersed Spiritual Qi.
They do not participate in electromagnetic interactions, do not emit any detectable radiation, and are completely invisible within the existing scientific framework.
In the current world, he should be the only one who can perceive the existence of spirit energy particles.
As for those instruments in botanical research institutes, they can only measure the indirect effects of "dispersed Spiritual Qi" on plants, such as growth rate, leaf area, and cell activity.
As for where this influence comes from, the instruments will only display a string of question marks.
Chen Mo withdrew his thoughts, picked up his phone, and dialed his uncle's number.
It was answered after three rings.
"Xiao Mo? You're back?" His uncle's voice carried surprise and concern.
"Uncle, I just got home. Are you free tonight? Ask Brother Wei and Sister Ting to come back for a meal too; I have something I want to tell you all."
It was quiet on the other end of the line for two seconds.
"Are you trying to talk about... the things on the phone?"
"Yes."
"Sigh." His uncle sighed, "It's been on the trending list for almost a week. To be honest, I've lived for over fifty years, and this is the first time I've encountered something like this; I have no idea what to make of it."
Chen Mo could hear the hesitation in his uncle's tone.
For his uncle's generation, the world is stable. The seasons rotate, planting in spring and harvesting in autumn, and life in cities and villages goes on as planned.
Now, suddenly telling him that the world has changed is not a pleasant surprise, but a source of unease.
"Uncle, let's sit down as a family and talk it over properly. I'll take a taxi over right away."
"Alright, I'll call Brother Wei and Sister Ting to come back right now."
Hanging up the phone, Chen Mo went out.
