4: Chapter 4 Records
At 2:00 PM, the coaching department held its weekly meeting.
A dozen or so coaches sat in the conference room; those who were close friends exchanged glances and joked around, while the new intern coach sat upright in the corner.
Manager Yang Ming stood at the front, speaking in a moderate tone as he went over a few matters. The sales targets for this month had been raised slightly.
"Pay attention to the renewal rate for personal training sessions. Focus on service details during class to avoid member complaints."
"New coaches must pass the internal training assessment within this week."
Twenty minutes later, the meeting adjourned.
Chen Mo greeted a few familiar colleagues and turned to prepare for his afternoon classes.
He had three sessions in the afternoon.
The first was a muscle-building session for an old regular, focusing on back training.
The second was a trial session for a new member, teaching basic squats and core activation.
The third was for a female student, focusing on fat loss and posture correction.
After finishing these three sessions, he sat in the breakroom for twenty minutes, ate a banana, and drank a whole bottle of mineral water.
Then came the busiest time of the day.
From 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM, he had three consecutive classes, only managing to wolf down a quick meal in between.
It was the peak time at the gym; the equipment area had lines for the bench press racks, and the treadmills were completely full.
The air was thick with the smell of sweat mixed with the metallic scent of friction from the equipment, and the speakers were turned up two notches, blasting a fast-paced electronic track.
Chen Mo finished his last class amidst the noise. The student was so exhausted that they sat on the floor panting, but he felt fine.
He had a light layer of sweat on his body, his breathing was steady, and he looked no different than usual.
But he knew things were different now.
It was 9:00 PM now.
Starting from 10:30 AM, he had taught classes all day, a very full schedule, and had even gone to a combat club in between.
Given normal physical exertion, he should have been in "only want to lie down" mode by now.
But he wasn't. He felt he still had energy to spare.
He didn't waste that surplus energy.
He walked over to the strength training area.
The strength training area was still quite busy at 9:30 PM.
Several big guys who practically lived by the squat racks were spotting each other for heavy lifts, while in the bench press area, two young men were competing to see who could push more. The sound of barbells being racked echoed one after another.
Chen Mo nodded to a few familiar members and stood by the squat rack.
He decided to test his limits on the three major lifts.
Squat: 250 kg, up 10 kg from before.
Bench Press: 155 kg, up 5 kg from before.
Deadlift: 270 kg, up 10 kg from before.
It only took him about half an hour to finish all this.
His rest intervals between sets were very short—not because he was intentionally controlling them, but because he was truly recovering too fast.
After a heavy deadlift, a normal person would need at least three to five minutes of rest to recover enough to get back under the bar, but it took him less than two minutes for most of the fatigue in his lower back to dissipate.
A regular member who often hung out in the strength area—everyone called him Da Liu—walked over from the squat rack. Watching Chen Mo unload the barbell plates from the deadlift, he couldn't help but speak up:
"Coach Chen, did you take something today? That 250 kg squat and 270 kg deadlift just now—how come it looked like you were just playing around?"
Chen Mo wiped the sweat from his face and smiled.
"I'm just in good shape today."
"That's for sure, this is no ordinary 'good shape'." Da Liu shook his head, his tone filled with a mix of envy and helplessness. "If I could ever push numbers like yours, I'd wake up laughing in my dreams."
Chen Mo smiled and said, "Take your time," but his hands began to move faster.
Because he had noticed something.
During the rest periods between his bench press and deadlift sets, he could feel his muscles recovering at an unnatural speed.
Muscle fibers stretching, micro-tearing, and then repairing and strengthening—this process takes forty-eight to seventy-two hours in a normal person's body, but in his, it only took about a few hours.
Just like when he was doing pull-ups last night, there was an extremely subtle itching and tingling sensation deep in his muscles; that was the signal of muscle fibers being constantly repaired.
And it wasn't just recovery.
He could feel that he had become a little stronger.
The data on the system panel hadn't jumped, but he knew it had changed.
It was a sense of certainty originating from deep within his body.
This kind of change was too conspicuous in the gym.
He could explain it away as "being in good shape" once, but he couldn't "be in good shape" forever.
If he could refresh his limits every time he trained, add weight to every squat, and increase significantly every few days, it wouldn't take long.
He would either be regarded as a monster or as some kind of new fitness black technology—like the first batch of experimental subjects for the Nine Dragon Power.
In the fitness circle, people are far more sensitive to data than ordinary people.
He decisively ended his training.
"I'm off."
He waved at Da Liu, returned the barbell plates to their places, grabbed his gym bag, clocked out, and left the gym without looking back.
When he returned to his rented apartment, it was already nearly 10:30 PM.
Chen Mo took a shower, changed into clean clothes, and ate his post-workout meal.
Tonight's post-workout meal was the same old three items.
He sat at the table, didn't open his phone, didn't scroll through videos, but instead pulled out the black leather-bound notebook from his drawer.
For the past two years, he had used it to record training plans and his physical condition, but later, after using mobile apps to record everything in software, the notebook had been abandoned.
He turned to a blank page and began to write. Writing it down on paper.
He knew better than anyone that no matter how convenient data on phones and computers might be, it wasn't as secure as a notebook locked in a drawer.
He wrote:
"May 10th, Day 2.
Training data: Squat 250kg (up 10kg), Bench Press 155kg (up 5kg), Deadlift 270kg (up 10kg).
Punch force test result 210kg, basically consistent with system panel data.
Dietary intake: Breakfast approx. 1100 kcal, lunch approx. 1500 kcal, dinner and post-workout meal approx. 3400 kcal, total daily intake approx. 6000 kcal.
Compared to the muscle-building phase, intake increased by about 50%.
Currently, digestion is normal, no bloating or diarrhea, high conversion efficiency.
Subsequently, if intake continues to increase, consider replacing some protein powder with mass gainer, or making homemade high-density nut smoothies.
Capabilities: Recovery speed further verified, fatigue dissipation time after heavy training significantly shortened.
No joint pain or muscle strains.
Four years of old injuries have completely disappeared, including left shoulder, right knee, and right wrist.
Recovery and repair capabilities far exceed normal humans.
No fatigue after limit Breakthrough, muscle fiber repair speed is extremely fast but requires energy consumption.
Training venue: The weight and space of the current gym's equipment cannot meet long-term needs.
The squat rack limit can only reach 300 kg, mainly because they are all large plastic plates, not steel ones.
Punch force test also cannot be completed.
Need to plan other training venues and equipment solutions in advance.
If strength continues to grow too quickly, the gym is not suitable for limit training.
Action items: ① Calculate high-calorie diet plan, increase calorie intake; ② Find private venues (abandoned factories, empty lots in the suburbs, hidden spots in the mountains); ③ Strictly hide strength, continue working as usual, pay attention to daily behavior, live as usual."
After finishing, he closed the notebook and locked it into the bottom drawer of his desk. He kept the key on his person.
After doing all this, he leaned back in his chair. The room fell silent, and he fell into deep thought.
He recalled the number on the punch force tester this afternoon: 210 kg.
More than twice that of a normal person; it could easily knock out an adult male and break bones.
The boxers mentioned in those videos online were probably in this range, but that was still strength within the scope of normal human cognition.
And this number would rise again tomorrow. And the day after tomorrow, too.
At the same time, every part of his body was getting stronger—whether it was his muscles, bones, or even the capabilities of his internal organs; it would all undergo Infinite Growth.
As long as he continued to exercise, even if it was just daily walking, moving dumbbells during class, or going up and down stairs, his body would constantly accumulate changes.
Today's 216 kg might become 250 kg by next week, and by next month, it would become another number he himself wouldn't dare believe.
He couldn't let others find out.
Could there be other people in this world like him?
The system panel only had his data; there were no leaderboards, no databases, and nothing telling him what level others were at.
He could only rely on himself to find information and observe.
But now was not the time to take the initiative.
He turned over and pulled the quilt up to his stomach.
Before closing his eyes, he glanced at the system panel.
The data was still floating there quietly, without any changes, nor did it urge him to do anything.
He looked at that line of text again: Strength (Punch Force): 216kg ↑ Mental Power: 1.4
