74: Chapter 74 These people don't understand warfare
Talos rode his warhorse, his hand gripping the grip of his large-caliber rifle so hard his knuckles turned white.
He frowned, looking at the troops not far ahead.
"Do these guys... actually know how to fight?"
Talos's deputy, a hunter with a blind left eye, leaned toward the horse and whispered:
"Chief, look at them. Their formation is a mess; they don't even walk properly. Some are even laughing and messing around. Is this really a force sent to fight the Greenskins? It looks more like..."
"Like a bunch of pampered soldiers who have never seen blood."
Talos took over the conversation, his eyes full of dislike.
In his eyes, although this group of humans wearing strange armor had equipment that made people jealous, their mental state and discipline were a complete mess.
Recalling the rumors about this force annexing the Mountain Tribe, Talos snorted coldly:
"I heard that when the Mountain Tribe was annexed by them, a lot of the old, weak, sick, and disabled died. It seems these people only know how to bully the unarmed with their advanced weapons."
"What a waste of such good equipment."
Talos gripped the hilt of his blade, mentally preparing for the worst.
"Once we make contact with the Greenskin vanguard, these hothouse flowers will surely collapse instantly. They will flee back like a frightened flock of sheep."
Talos cursed inwardly, "If they scatter the wall-building crew in the rear while fleeing, then our six hundred brothers will have died in vain!"
"Everyone, listen up!"
Talos shouted in a low voice, "Don't count on those iron-clad people! Once the explosives go off, we charge immediately! Whoever dares to retreat, I'll chop him down myself!"
The nomadic death squad gripped their crude weapons, their eyes resolute.
Meanwhile, up ahead.
The players didn't care at all about the contemptuous looks from these NPCs.
In the minds of The Fourth Calamity, there was only monster grinding, leveling up, and infrastructure building.
"Damn it, is that NPC leader's eye texture bugged? Why does he keep rolling his eyes?"
Pi She stood on the temporary command vehicle, holding binoculars and complaining.
"Bullshit."
[Nicotine Truth] tore him down mercilessly, "I feel like he's just purely despising you for being ugly."
"Go to hell." Pi She cursed.
Zhen, Flame Fist, Wang Shouyi, and other new players in their party burst into laughter.
In a dark and desperate universe like Warhammer, besides the Greenskins of Gork and Mork, these guys from The Fourth Calamity were probably the only ones who could maintain such an optimistic mindset.
"Stop laughing, damn it! The monsters are about to spawn!"
Pi She put away the binoculars and shouted, pointing at the surrounding terrain, "This is a great place to spawn-camp! Signalman, hurry and have the brothers set up the signal station here! Artillery platoon! Deploy those three cannons to the high ground behind! Watch the distance, don't get too close! In case the Greenskins have heavy firepower, don't let us all get wiped out by one shell!"
Zhen wiped his mouth and ran to pass the order.
The artillery players who received the order immediately stopped advancing.
They skillfully assembled the metal antennas, and before long, a temporary signal tower rose up behind the position.
Following that, three tracked tractors slowly pulled the three newly manufactured 150mm smoothbore field guns to the designated high ground.
Eighteen new players who had signed up as artillerymen scrambled to unload the cannons and nailed the heavy spades into the ground.
Box after box of golden artillery shells were moved out.
After everything was ready.
These eighteen people suddenly stopped, looking at each other, and the atmosphere fell into an eerie silence.
"Uh... brothers."
A science student player asked weakly, "How do you fire this cannon... again?"
Everyone was dumbfounded.
Playing a game, who the hell has ever studied an artillery operation manual?
Just then, a sharp-eyed player saw a waterproof bag hanging next to the gun carriage, containing a thick stack of blueprints:
"Hey! Isn't there an instruction manual here?"
"Are you drunk?"
Another player with a Northeast accent slapped the gun barrel, "Who reads an instruction manual while playing a game?"
That player was stunned, then threw the manual in his hand away:
"Makes sense! I always skip tutorials when I play games. Just jump in and mess around, that's it!"
Within a few minutes, amidst a series of metallic clanking sounds, this group of newbies actually figured out the mechanical principles of loading and firing, and even started test-firing, having a great time.
The main force in front had already plunged into the depths of the dry riverbed like a sharp knife.
The canyon grew wider, and the rumbling engine sounds and the players' shouting finally alerted the Greenskins wandering nearby.
"Monsters! Get out of the vehicle! Melee group, take the front! Firepower group, get the mortars set up!"
Pi She roared in the PV command channel.
[Liver Emperor] was the first to jump off the troop carrier.
Today he was wearing a set of exoskeletons covered in self-made thickened armor plates, holding a large-caliber Heavy Stubber with immense oppressive force.
On his back was a huge metal ammunition box, with golden ammunition belts connecting the box to the chamber, looking exactly like a heavily armed Terminators.
Flash followed closely behind.
He carried his signature melta greatsword in his left hand, an RPG launcher on his right shoulder, and three armor-piercing rockets on his back, exuding a murderous aura.
A dozen excited newbies followed the big shots like tag-alongs, carrying various weapons.
And on the tracked vehicle they were riding, [Praise Ming Shen] was quickly assembling a mortar with another player.
With a "click," the mortar base plate locked precisely into the special slot in the back of the tracked vehicle.
"Done!" Ming Shen clapped his hands, "My specially designed modular interface. With the mortar fixed on the vehicle, combined with the large-caliber autocannon on the roof, we've got ourselves a low-end self-propelled artillery vehicle!"
Other squads followed suit, getting off the vehicles to prepare their weapons.
The scattered Greenskin boys were quickly cleared out.
But as they delved deeper, organized Greenskin formations began to appear.
[Wanna Sleep with Slaanesh] and [Miracle Walker] led a squad, and hadn't advanced far before they ran head-on into a Greenskin motorcycle gang, followed by an open-top off-road vehicle painted in red, carrying a dozen Greenskins.
"WAAAGH! Humies! So many humies!"
The Orks on the vehicle, seeing such a large-scale human force, were not afraid at all; instead, they roared excitedly and slammed on the accelerator to charge over.
"Hehe, just in time to try out these new toys on you!"
Slaanesh grinned, shouldered the RPG, knelt on one knee, and aimed at the leading off-road vehicle.
"Come on, my points!!"
He pulled the trigger.
"Whoosh—!"
White smoke sprayed from the back of the tube, and the RPG's high-explosive warhead dragged a long tail flame, drawing a straight line in the air.
With a loud "boom," it hit the front of the red-painted off-road vehicle precisely!
The off-road vehicle exploded instantly.
The huge impact force threw the Greenskins in the cargo bed a dozen meters into the air.
Before those Greenskins could land, Miracle Walker had already raised his large-caliber Heavy Stubber and began cold-blooded point shooting.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
The Greenskins in mid-air burst into clusters of green blood mist one after another, like popped blood bags.
This fluid and extremely brutal combo stunned the dozen newbies following behind.
"Wow! The big shot is amazing!"
"Did he use an aimbot or something?"
"Quick, quick, quick! Steal the kills!"
The newbies' morale was greatly boosted, and they charged up, turning the remaining few motorcycle boys into sieves with gunfire.
Such small-scale skirmishes broke out everywhere on the hundred-meter-wide dry riverbed.
The players were unstoppable, advancing rapidly into the depths.
However, good times didn't last long.
When the main force pushed to the narrowest pass of the riverbed and continued forward for several hundred meters, the scene ahead made everyone gasp.
Pi She raised his binoculars, looking at the distant horizon, his scalp tingling.
"Damn... so many?"
The riverbed terrain ahead suddenly widened to both sides, presenting a huge funnel shape.
And at the end of the funnel, on that radiation wasteland shrouded in green toxic fog.
A black tide of green was surging in from all over the mountains and plains!
There was no way to count how many Greenskins there were! Vaguely, one could see that the area around the towering trash mountain was full of moving green heads.
Behind those sprinting Ork infantry, Pi She even saw several extremely huge metal figures.
"Are those... Killer Kans?! And heavy artillery vehicles modified by Meks?!"
The so-called Killer Kans meant cutting off the limbs of a Gretchin and stuffing it into a huge tin can with limbs; the can usually has large-caliber weapons and circular saws on its hands.
Pi She swallowed his saliva and roared crazily in the command channel:
"Brothers! That's the main force of the Greenskins, estimated at around two thousand! They have heavy firepower! Later, the artillery in the rear must prioritize taking out their heavy vehicles for me!"
Just as Pi She finished speaking.
As if to respond to the players' provocation.
"WAAAAAGH!!!"
The terrifying war cry of hundreds and thousands of Greenskins gathered together exploded on the wasteland!
This pure will to kill even caused a violent resonance in the air, shaking the players' eardrums with pain.
Then, that ocean of green, like a terrifying tsunami of steel, surged crazily toward the narrow pass of the dry riverbed!
In the rear.
Talos and hundreds of nomads looked at the green tide covering the sky and sun in the distance, feeling completely desperate.
They had originally thought there were only a few hundred Greenskins; who would have imagined that there were at least ten thousand of them!
"It's over... our plan is ridiculous."
The blind deputy put down his weapon in despair, "With this number, let alone blowing up the mountain, even blowing up the sky wouldn't be enough to stop them!"
"Boom!!"
"Boom, boom, boom!!!"
Just then, two deafening roars suddenly erupted from the steep mountains on both sides of the canyon!
Those were the explosives set by the nomads.
Following that, several more violent, earth-shaking chain explosions sounded on the mountainside!
These were the high-explosives planted by the players!
The violent chain explosions completely destroyed the already fragile weathered mountain structure.
