96: Chapter 96 Is he mentally ill?

Coastal City northern defense line.

Gloomy, lead-gray radiation clouds hung low overhead.

The roar of artillery rolled across the land like muffled thunder.

The air was thick with the acrid smell of gunpowder and the stench of mud.

"Boom!"

A shell that missed its target exploded a dozen meters in front of the bunker, sending black soil mixed with severed limbs and arms shooting into the sky.

[Hand of God] Chapter Master Black Tiger A-Fu abruptly pulled his head back into the trench, which was built from sandbags and mud.

He spat out the grit from his mouth and patted his helmet hard.

This edge trench, located at the westernmost part of the defense line, was incredibly crowded.

It was packed with four hundred [Hand of God] legion players, as well as one thousand gang civilians forcibly conscripted from Shahe Town.

There was no Commander, no tactical planning.

The only task given to these conscripts by those above was one: fill this place with your lives, hold these few muddy trenches to the death, and give your lives for the Emperor.

On high ground dozens of meters behind the trench stood a row of cold, water-cooled heavy machine guns.

That was the [Defense Force]'s commissariat unit.

Anyone who dared to retreat half a step would be turned into mincemeat by those heavy machine guns.

And in front of the trench, earth-shaking roars were piercing through the smoke, drawing closer.

Black Tiger A-Fu turned his head, looked at the players beside him, and grinned:

"Brothers! Hear that? The Orks are finally here!"

A Fu wiped the mud and water from his face,

"I've been chewing on that shitty nutrient paste for days, my mouth is almost losing its taste. After we finish fighting later, remember to save a few Ork arms; we'll roast them for a treat tonight!"

When the players heard this, not only were they not afraid, but they all pulled their gun bolts, their eyes shining.

"Screw them!"

"My big blade has been thirsty!"

"I'm going to take the leg meat of the lead Orc Boss!"

Beside this group of excited, howling players squatted a native wearing a worn, gray leather jacket.

It was the female gangster from Shahe Town that A Fu had spoken to on the shuttle—Bailey.

Bailey clutched the broken gun in her hands, its rifling worn smooth, looking at this group of people like they were lunatics.

Anyone knew how terrifying those Ork monsters, which were much taller and stronger than humans, were.

Once they charged into the trench, it would be a one-sided, bloody massacre.

How could these people act like they weren't afraid of death?

They were even discussing how to eat the monsters?

"Are they all insane?" Bailey felt a chill in her heart.

But after a few days of contact, she felt that although these people were erratic and reckless in their actions, their minds were clear.

Especially their leader, the man named A Fu, who looked slightly more stable.

Bailey turned her head and glanced at the gang members from Shahe Town in the trench.

Facing the approaching roars of the monsters, everyone was trembling, their faces pale.

Just then, A Fu crouched and snuck along the muddy trench to Bailey's side.

"Hey, Bailey." A Fu nudged her with his elbow. "Have you heard of a gang called the People's Armed Force?"

Bailey tensed up, staring at A Fu vigilantly: "Why? Do you know them?"

A Fu smiled heartlessly:

"Of course. A good brother of mine just made friends with that gang leader. I heard that to raise money, that gang leader opened quite a few brothels in the slums?"

Bailey heard the mockery of Governor Jia Mei in A Fu's tone, and her expression became complicated.

"He has his difficulties too." Bailey bit her lower lip, her voice low. "He didn't want to open brothels; it was all just to survive."

A Fu curled his lip, looking disapproving:

"That doesn't mean you let your own people sell themselves, right? If you have no food or drink, go rob, go fight! Anything is more honorable than opening a brothel!"

This touched a sore spot, and Bailey was clearly angry.

"Enough!" Bailey yelled in a low voice, "If you came over just to humiliate Governor Jia Mei, you can get lost now!"

A Fu was stunned. Seeing Bailey's excited reaction, he immediately guessed that she and Governor Jia Mei were likely acquaintances. Seeing her in a rage, A Fu didn't press further.

"Fine, fine, I'll shut up."

A Fu patted the broken gun in his hand,

"I came over to kindly remind you. When we fight the Orks later, you must aim for their eyes! The small-caliber junk guns issued by the [Defense Force] can't break through an Ork's skull at all; only hitting the eyes works."

Bailey sneered, looking disdainful: "You say it like you're good at fighting Orks." After saying that, she turned away directly and ignored A Fu.

A Fu scratched his head, looking innocent: "Damn, that leader isn't your dad, why are you so angry?"

A Fu was about to turn back to his defensive position.

He saw a few Shahe Town gang members huddled together, hands clasped, eyes closed, frantically muttering something about "The Emperor Protects."

As [The Fourth Calamity], A Fu blurted out:

"Stop chanting. Your Emperor can't protect you. He can't even move his own ass."

Amidst the horrified gazes of the surrounding natives, who looked at him as if he were a heretic, A Fu swaggered back to his position.

Just then...

"OWWW—WAAAAAGH!!!"

The smoke in front was blown away by a strong wind.

The Ork charge finally revealed itself.

This was the westernmost part of the defense line, and the number of Orks was far less than in the center.

Plus, since Orks only knew how to rush mindlessly, fewer Orks ran to the edge positions.

A Fu poked his head out and counted.

About two hundred Orc Boyz, a few dozen Gretchin and Squigs.

Leading them were four massive Orc Bosss.

Their weapons were mostly crude guns patched together from scrap iron and a few power axes.

There were no heavy armors or Killer Kans.

"Just this scale."

A Fu snorted in his heart,

"If this were at our [Brotherhood of Steel] outpost northwest of [Shelter], they would have become the most flavorful dried meat in no time."

But here, even a Gretchin charging over could scare these forcibly conscripted NPCs into wetting themselves.

The two sides were getting closer.

The water-cooled heavy machine guns on the high ground behind began to fire.

But the barrels without rifling had terrible accuracy, and the bullets fired drifted randomly in mid-air, unable to suppress the Ork charge at all.

"Brothers!" A Fu roared.

"These junk guns can't kill the monsters! Once you run out of ammo in the magazine, go straight out and fight the Orks in melee! Survive this wave, and we start looting gear!"

After saying that, A Fu violently pulled the bolt, raised his automatic rifle, and without even aiming, fired a burst forward.

After all, aiming with this junk gun was the same as not aiming.

Four hundred players opened fire simultaneously.

However.

This kind of small-caliber gunpowder weapon hitting the thick-skinned Orks didn't even splash a drop of blood.

A frantic outpouring of firepower didn't kill many Orks at all; only a few unlucky Gretchin were blown away by artillery shells from behind.

The Ork tide had already charged to within thirty meters!

"Damn! This really is a useless poker!"

A Fu threw away the automatic rifle in his hand, pulled a piece of scrap metal rod from his back, and let out a heaven-shaking roar:

"Brothers! Screw them!"

Four hundred players dropped their guns without hesitation.

They pulled out all kinds of melee weapons—machetes, iron rods, sharpened rebar—and, howling, climbed directly out of the trench!

The commissariat unit on the high ground behind saw the players climbing out of the trench and, thinking they were deserting, prepared to pull the triggers of the heavy machine guns.

Who would have thought that those people didn't retreat at all but instead, like mad dogs, lunged directly at the oncoming Orks!

The commissariat unit's machine gunner was instantly dumbfounded, his finger frozen on the trigger.

Bailey in the trench was stunned.

She watched with her own eyes as this group of people abandoned their cover and went to melee with Orks twice their size using cold weapons, her brain unable to process it for a moment.

The [Defense Force] and conscripts on the surrounding defense lines were all staring at each other.

Behind the front line.

A [Defense Force] Political Commissar in a black coat was observing the situation with binoculars.

Seeing that scene on the western defense line, he roared angrily:

"What is going on with those people?! Who gave the order to charge?!"

"Political Commissar, those are the conscripts from a few days ago."

"What? Conscripts? How did you catch psychopaths?"

"Political Commissar, look!"

However, what caused all the friendly forces to drop their jaws was that,

They had expected those mentally unstable conscripts to be torn to pieces like chopping melons and vegetables by the Orks.

But unexpectedly, these outlanders not only didn't die out, but they also pulled off stunning coordination!

They had a clear division of labor.

Some people were specifically grabbing mud from the ground and throwing it at the Orks' faces, frantically drawing aggro.

Some formed groups of a dozen to gang up on a lone Ork Boy, beating it with clubs.

There were also a few players with good marksmanship who didn't rush out but, holding slightly more accurate rifles, lay on the edge of the trench and kept sniping at the Orks' eyes.

With such suicidal, chaotic tactics, they actually inflicted significant casualties on the Orks all of a sudden.

Moreover, as the Orks fell, these people didn't get tired; instead, they became like they were on stimulants, fighting harder and harder!

However, the most eye-catching thing was the leader of this group.

Black Tiger A-Fu, carrying that large metal iron rod, bypassed the ordinary Orc Boyz and went head-on to challenge a two-meter-tall Orc Boss!

Those Orc Boyz, who purely worshipped violence, not only didn't block him but excitedly cleared an open space for the two to duel.

A Fu's height of 1.8 meters was considered tall and sturdy among humans, but in front of the Orc Boss, he was a whole head shorter.

But A Fu used a ruthless move as soon as he attacked.

He didn't clash head-on at all.

A flexible slide avoided the power axe that came crashing down, and the large metal rod, carrying the sound of wind, smashed fiercely into the Orc Boss's knee joint!

"Crack!"

Bones shattered.

The Orc Boss couldn't stand steadily, and its massive body suddenly knelt on one knee.

At this very moment.

A Fu exerted force with his legs, and his whole body leaped high.

"Noxian Guillotine!!!"

Accompanying a roar that was off the charts with chunibyo, A Fu gripped the iron rod with both hands and, utilizing the gravity of his descent, delivered a heavy, powerful jumping smash that slammed fiercely onto the thinner top of the Orc Boss's skull!

"Bang!"

The Orc Boss's skull exploded like a watermelon.

The massive body crashed to the ground.

A Fu shook the green blood off the iron rod and didn't stop for a second, turning his head directly to find the next Orc Boss.

In less than ten minutes.

Under A Fu's single-handed combat, all three leading Orc Bosss had their skulls smashed.

Bailey, hiding in the trench, was completely confused.

The surrounding Shahe Town gang members also had their mouths wide open, unable to say a word for a long time.

In the command post behind, the Political Commissar who had just been throwing a tantrum held his binoculars, standing still for a long time.

It wasn't until he saw that man single-handedly smash the heads of three Orc Bosss in a row that the Political Commissar let out a long breath of turbid air.
