25: Chapter 25 Mysterious Illness!

Administration Building, inside the Vice President's office.

Vice President Zhao sat behind his desk, tapping his finger on the tabletop rhythmically. Usually steady, he appeared unusually anxious today.

As the Vice President of Jiangcheng No. 1 Peoples Hospital, he was a well-connected figure in Jiangcheng's medical system; nothing could be hidden from him.

Just after seven this morning, as soon as he arrived at the office, he had already received news.

People from the Second Hospital had gone to contact Su Ye.

And it wasn't just the Second Hospital.

There were also calls from the Municipal Maternity and Child Healthcare Hospital, the Affiliated Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and even people from the Provincial Capital calling to inquire about the situation.

This caused Vice President Zhao's heart to suddenly tighten.

Su Ye.

Ranked first in the province in the written Medical Practitioner License.

Once this title came out, its value was immense; he was a treasure of The First Hospital.

How many young people studied medicine in Jiangnan Province every year? Undergraduates, master's students, Standardized Resident Trainees, and residents—all thrown in to take the exam together, and Su Ye stood at the very top alone. He was a top-tier super genius.

For someone like this, as long as he didn't make major mistakes later, completed his residency training smoothly, and established a steady clinical path, he would be a genuine seed of talent.

Talent, by its nature, was something to be fought over.

Now that they had the advantage of proximity, they were terrified of him being snatched away by others.

Vice President Zhao thought back to those phone calls from this morning.

Big figures in the provincial medical community rarely took the initiative to ask about a lowly Standardized Resident Trainee. Yet this morning, one after another, they had been making indirect inquiries about Su Ye's situation, his performance at The First Hospital, and whether he had other plans for the future.

This made Vice President Zhao even more fearful.

They were eyeing him.

Just as he was thinking, a knock suddenly came from the door.

Knock, knock.

Vice President Zhao pulled his thoughts back, his voice steadying.

"Come in."

The door was pushed open.

Su Ye walked in.

Young, clean, with bright eyes and a calm temperament that didn't belong to an ordinary Standardized Resident Trainee. Vice President Zhao looked him over and sighed inwardly again.

No wonder; this spirit alone was extraordinary.

"Sit down."

"Thank you, President."

Su Ye sat down, his expression calm.

Vice President Zhao got straight to the point without wasting a single word.

"Su Ye, you did very well, ranking first in the province in this Medical Practitioner License."

"Thank you, President. It was just luck."

"Don't be too modest." Vice President Zhao waved his hand. "Ranking first in the province isn't something that can be achieved by luck. Such a result is enough to drive many people in Jiangnan Province crazy."

Su Ye understood that the Vice President was hinting at the matter with the Second Hospital this morning.

"It's not surprising." Vice President Zhao leaned back in his chair, his tone flat but his eyes serious. "A young man like you is bound to be sought after. But since you are currently doing your residency at The First Hospital, we won't just stand by and watch our talent be poached by others."

With that, he took a document out of a drawer and pushed it toward Su Ye.

"This is the hospital's letter of intent for you to stay."

Su Ye glanced down.

In black and white, the header clearly read "Jiangcheng No. 1 Peoples Hospital Youth Talent Intent Agreement."

Vice President Zhao continued, "The meaning is simple: sign this first. After your residency ends, as long as there are no major errors or issues of principle, the hospital will definitely give you priority for employment. I will personally inform the HR department and the clinical departments in advance."

"In addition, for skill ratings and rotation assessments, as long as you maintain your current performance, we will give you high scores. As for the residency duration..." Vice President Zhao paused, a meaningful smile appearing at the corners of his mouth, "it will be reduced as appropriate."

Su Ye looked up.

In principle, residency duration was fixed and couldn't be easily changed. But since Vice President Zhao dared to say it, it meant the hospital was prepared to give him the green light.

Vice President Zhao looked at Su Ye, his tone calm yet sincere.

"Some things indeed don't quite follow the rules, but rules are static while people are dynamic. When a hospital cultivates talent, it can't just apply a one-size-fits-all approach. While others follow the routine for three years, if you can prove yourself in a shorter time, the hospital is naturally willing to give you the opportunity."

This was spoken very clearly.

Su Ye also understood.

This was locking him in early.

And Su Ye had already planned to stay at The First Hospital; after all, he understood its prestige in Jiangcheng.

If he were to come into contact with the 'Extraordinary' later, The First Peoples Hospital would definitely be the best choice.

Su Ye picked up a pen and signed his name on the agreement.

The handwriting was steady, clean, and sharp.

"Thank you, President, and thank you to the hospital for valuing me."

Looking at the signed agreement, Vice President Zhao breathed a sigh of relief.

He put the agreement away, and his tone softened considerably.

"There's one more thing."

Su Ye looked up.

"Elder Zhou Jingtang thinks quite highly of you." As Vice President Zhao said this, he felt a bit of emotion himself. "There's a consultation and treatment session tomorrow. The old gentleman specifically mentioned your name and wants you to go along."

Su Ye's eyes shifted slightly.

Zhou Jingtang.

If he remembered correctly, this was a legendary figure in Jiangcheng's medical world; anyone studying medicine should know his name.

"To be honest, even I'm a bit envious of this opportunity." Vice President Zhao shook his head, his tone half-joking. "Elder Zhou is advanced in years and rarely takes on patients personally now. The hospital treats him like a treasure. Even those queuing up can't get a turn to learn from him, but now you have this opportunity, so make sure to seize it."

At this point, he flipped through a page of materials on the edge of the desk and took a look.

"I heard it's a difficult and complicated case, something called 'paroxysmal tremor muscle group outbreak syndrome.' Go along and learn. For a young person, such opportunities are rare."

paroxysmal tremor muscle group outbreak syndrome.

Su Ye ran the name through his mind.

In the next second, his mind instinctively began searching for corresponding medical knowledge.

Nervous system diseases? Myopathy? Abnormal motor unit recruitment? Focal dystonia? Rare discharge abnormalities?

Terms popped up one by one and were quickly excluded.

Su Ye's heart suddenly sank slightly.

There was nothing.

With his current medical knowledge, he couldn't find a single standard answer that truly matched this condition.

A difficult and complicated case?

Su Ye's eyes flickered slightly, and a conjecture suddenly dawned on him.

This illness might not be that simple.

Even, it might not even be an illness at all.

But rather some deeper level of anomaly.

A trace of almost imperceptible excitement bubbled up from his heart, but he quickly suppressed it.

He looked up, his expression normal.

"I understand. Thank you, President, for giving me this opportunity."

Vice President Zhao looked at him, feeling more and more satisfied.

Young, capable, talented, and most importantly, steady-minded.

What hospital wouldn't love a prospect like this?

"Go on then." Vice President Zhao smiled. "Tomorrow morning at eight, the consultation room on the third floor of the Old Administration Building. Don't be late."

"Okay."

Su Ye stood up, politely thanked him, and then turned to leave the office.

The door closed.

Vice President Zhao leaned back in his chair, let out a long breath, and a satisfied smile appeared on his face.
