110: Chapter 110 Death Battle

Although their words were a bit unpleasant, Wang Ye knew they harbored no ill will.

They were probably just purely too surprised.

"Brothers, are you two all right?" the two Chinese Soldiers who walked in asked.

"No major problems. You guys should go and see if anyone else is still alive," Wang Ye shook his head.

Although some parts of his body still throbbed with pain, it didn't affect his movement.

"Alright." Hearing this, the two Chinese Soldiers nodded and began searching for other surviving Chinese Soldiers in the bunker.

After searching for thirty to forty minutes, the total number of survivors in the entire bunker was no more than twenty.

Originally, there were about a hundred people in their bunker, but now three-quarters of them were gone.

The casualties were too heavy.

Wang Ye guessed that his comrades in the other bunkers probably weren't doing much better.

The shelling from the Devils caused them too many casualties.

Wang Ye felt that the casualties caused by the Devil infantry were far fewer than those brought by the shelling.

"Brothers, we still need you to hold this bunker. The Devils are attacking, and we've suffered heavy casualties on our side."

"Are there no reinforcements?" Wang Ye frowned slightly upon hearing the Chinese Soldier's words.

"Where would reinforcements come from? Everyone who could be sent has been sent; there are no reinforcements." The Chinese Soldier gave a bitter laugh and left.

He still had to rush to the next bunker to check the situation.

These bunkers couldn't be left unmanned.

As long as they weren't completely destroyed, they had to continue defending them.

Because the positions of these bunkers were vital, if they were seized in a surprise attack by the Devils, taking them back would inevitably cost a massive number of casualties.

In the bunker at this time, the highest-ranking officer among the surviving Chinese Soldiers was only a Platoon Leader.

The Chinese Soldiers naturally looked to this Platoon Leader for leadership.

Seeing this, the Platoon Leader knew full well how heavy the burden on his shoulders was.

Originally, this bunker was defended by a company of Chinese Soldiers, but now there were only twenty-some people left.

"Everyone, gather the bodies of our brothers and stack them at the breaches," the Platoon Leader immediately ordered.

The Chinese Soldiers below fell silent upon hearing the Platoon Leader's command.

However, they didn't resist the order, as such things were common on the battlefield.

Many breaches had appeared in the four walls of the bunker.

If these breaches weren't blocked, the enemy outside could easily sneak in through them.

Subsequently, Wang Ye joined the Chinese Soldiers in using concrete fragments from the ground to block the breaches.

Where the concrete fragments weren't enough, they used the bodies of their comrades to stack there, forming a wall.

By the time he finished, he was drenched in sweat from exhaustion.

Just then, the sound of gunfire suddenly came from outside.

"Platoon Leader, a squad of Little Devils is sneaking up on us."

A Chinese Soldier shouted, causing the resting Chinese Soldiers to immediately stand up and become alert.

"Prepare for battle! Don't let the Little Devils charge up!" the Platoon Leader shouted loudly.

Wang Ye immediately picked up his machine gun and mounted it at a small breach.

A person couldn't crawl through this breach, but it was just right to be used as a firing port.

Through the breach, he soon saw a dozen or so Little Devils sneaking up from the bottom of the hill.

Today, these Devils didn't seem to be attacking using large-scale charges.

Instead, they sent squads of a dozen or so Devils to attack the Yuhuatai positions from all directions.

Compared to a large-scale offensive, this method was harder to defend against.

As long as one squad could charge up, it could cause significant chaos.

Other squads could then take the opportunity to storm the Yuhuatai positions.

The Devils gradually approached the bunker. When they were less than twenty meters away, Wang Ye opened fire.

Bullets poured toward the Devils.

Immediately, five or six Devils fell to the ground, never to rise again.

The other Devils immediately took cover where they were, and some even rolled down the slope.

The terrain where the bunker was located was quite rugged; it wasn't easy for the Devils at the bottom of the hill to sneak up for a surprise attack.

Although these Devils could climb up using the remaining plant roots on the slope, it was impossible for them not to expose their tracks.

After all, the vegetation here had long been completely destroyed.

The bare slope provided no cover whatsoever.

These Devils hadn't expected there to be so many surviving Chinese Soldiers in this bunker.

They hadn't heard any gunfire from the bunker and were feeling lucky.

In the end, their luck was shattered by bullets.

Meanwhile, on the left flank of the Yuhuatai position.

The fighting here was extremely intense.

The Devils' 13th Regiment broke through the lines, stormed the position, and charged toward the Command Post position at the hilltop.

At the hilltop Command Post, a phone call came through.

"Brigade Commander, our position has been breached! Requesting reinforcements!"

On the Left Flank Position, fighting between the Devils and Chinese Soldiers was everywhere.

The Devils charged right up to them, engaging in close-quarters combat and bayonet fighting.

Gunfire, screams, and the sounds of slaughter echoed incessantly across the position.

The blood and sweat of the Chinese Soldiers were spilled together on the charred battlefield.

The Command Post at the hilltop.

Brigade Commander Gao Zhisong of the 264th Brigade heard the request for reinforcements and glanced at the battle map.

He found that there were no other units available to be deployed; the only ones left to provide support were his Guard Platoon.

He hesitated for only a moment before gritting his teeth and shouting, "Guard Platoon, follow me! We're going to support the left flank!"

After speaking, he stood up.

"Brigade Commander, you stay here. We'll go support them," the Guard beside him immediately stopped him.

"Stay for what? The Chinese Soldiers below are fighting a bloody battle. What can I do staying here alone?" Brigade Commander Gao Zhisong glared at the Guard and waved him off.

"Brigade Commander, our duty is to protect your safety. If anything happens to you, we can only apologize with our lives."

"Bullshit! Your duty is to protect the country, not me. Now that the Little Devils are attacking, do you think I can just live on alone?"

"If the Battalion Commander dies, the Regiment Commander takes over. If the Regiment Commander dies, I take over."

"This is an order! Set out immediately to provide support!"

After saying this, Brigade Commander Gao Zhisong walked out of the Command Post.

Seeing this, the Guard could only quickly assemble the entire Guard Platoon of Chinese Soldiers and follow the Brigade Commander to support the left flank.

They soon arrived at the Left Flank Position.

The position was filled with the sounds of fighting and explosions.

They arrived at the position's Command Post.

The Battalion Commander in the position's Command Post was stunned to see Brigade Commander Gao Zhisong arrive.

"Brigade Commander, why are you here? It's too dangerous!"

"Why can't I come? If the position can't be held, we'll all die here."

Hearing this, the Battalion Commander didn't dare say anything more.

"What's the current situation on the battlefield?" Brigade Commander Gao Zhisong asked.

"It's not optimistic. The Devils have already fought their way into the position."

Brigade Commander Gao Zhisong frowned deeply at the news.

The number of Chinese Soldiers still fighting on the battlefield was dwindling, and the Guard Platoon's reinforcements could only hold out for a while.

It couldn't change the overall situation at all.

But even if it couldn't be changed, it still had to be defended.
