30: Chapter 30 Suicide Squad

Upon learning the intelligence gathered by the two, Brigade Commander Li Zheng looked at the staff officers in the Command Post.

"Do you have any thoughts? Everyone, let's brainstorm."

These staff officers were all players; in reality, Brigade Commander Li Zheng still wished they were NPCs.

At least they would be able to offer him some advice.

As it turned out, the few could only stare at each other blankly.

"Since the tactic of infiltrating via the Sewer is feasible, I think we can have one regiment launch a main attack from the front to pin them down, and then dispatch another regiment to enter the Sewer and launch a surprise attack on the inside of the Little Devils' position," one of the players spoke eloquently.

Seeing this, the remaining few also chimed in one after another.

Seeing this, Brigade Commander Li Zheng sighed inwardly.

He also knew that he couldn't count on these staff officers now.

"What you said is indeed feasible, but we still need to consider that the Little Devils most likely also know that the Sewer can lead directly to the Airport."

"We cannot underestimate the enemy in battle; we must also consider the worst-case scenario."

"If the Little Devils have set up an ambush around the Sewer, every person who goes out will die. The best method is still to dispatch an elite squad for the assault, while all other units attack from the front."

As Brigade Commander Li Zheng spoke, his finger tapped a point on the map.

"Right here, there is another Airport of the Little Devils, and their aircraft might take off from here."

"This location is too close to us. If we don't take out this Airport..."

"...once the Little Devils react, their aircraft can take off immediately, which is very disadvantageous for our offensive."

"Then, do we also need to dispatch a squad to assault this side?" a staff officer asked.

"Let the Guard Company handle it; all available forces must be utilized," Brigade Commander Li Zheng said.

"Understood."

"Since that is the case, go and issue the orders."

...

On Wang Ye's side, at the temporary regimental Command Post.

After receiving the operational orders from the Brigade Headquarters, he had no objections.

He had just traversed the Sewer once.

He discovered that the space in the Sewer was very limited.

Not many people could enter.

A small number of people was fine; if there were too many, it would actually make the assault difficult.

Thinking of this, Wang Ye looked at the messenger and told him to go summon the several battalion commanders.

When the battalion commanders arrived at the Command Post.

Wang Ye immediately issued an order for them to select ten Suicide Squad members from each battalion to form a Suicide Squad to enter the Sewer.

Upon hearing this, the three battalion commanders immediately went back to select the personnel.

In just over ten minutes, the personnel were selected.

Glancing at the time for the operational mission, Wang Ye took another look at the time on the watch on his wrist.

It was six in the evening.

The night had not yet completely darkened, and there was still some light on the horizon.

It was time to set off.

Wang Ye came outside the temporary regimental Command Post.

The 30 selected Suicide Squad members were already standing in the open space outside the Command Post.

These people had all volunteered; the looks they cast at Wang Ye were filled with fervor.

Such an exciting and important mission stirred their competitive spirit.

"Brothers, your mission is very arduous. You only have thirty people; once you break into the interior of the Airport, no one will be able to support you."

"Perhaps none of you will survive, but everyone will remember you."

"Now, if anyone wants to quit, you may do so at any time."

After finishing, Wang Ye looked at them, but not a single person stepped forward.

"Very good. Since that is the case, set off. Take care, everyone!"

Subsequently, the thirty Suicide Squad members, led by their captain, entered the Sewer.

Wang Ye equipped them with the best gear in the regiment.

Just to increase the probability of success.

Although Wang Ye actually had no confidence in his heart, how could he know if something would succeed if he didn't do it?

If they fought, who could say for sure that they would lose this battle?

Wang Ye was not willing to lose just like that.

Losing the campaign did not mean he would lose.

After the Suicide Squad entered the Sewer, Wang Ye immediately led the 245th Regiment to rendezvous with Old Kui's 246th Regiment.

The two regiments needed to serve as the main attacking force.

When Wang Ye arrived at the 246th Regiment's station with his men, in the distance, the flashes of artillery fire and the rumbling sounds meant that the fighting had already begun.

Old Kui had not yet started his operation.

After Wang Ye rendezvoused with Old Kui, he looked at the place where flames were soaring into the sky, frowning slightly: "Old Kui, what's the situation over there?"

"That's the 88th Division's unit; they have already engaged the Little Devils in fire. We are about to start fighting too, let's go."

Old Kui did not continue to say much to Wang Ye.

He left the Command Post and followed the troops to a position near the Airport.

The night was thick, and heavy rain was falling from the sky.

Tonight was destined not to be peaceful.

In the torrential rain, Lao Hei and Liu Yang were crawling on the ground in the dark.

Behind them followed more than twenty people.

They were the first batch of the Suicide Squad, and their goal was to blow open the barbed wire fence.

Once the bomb went off, it would mean the battle had begun.

At the end of the horizon, in the thick night, flames were constant.

The blinding white light of the searchlights swept across the Airport's barbed wire fence, illuminating the torn rags and congealed blood clots hanging on it.

Lao Hei spat out the mud in his mouth and waved his hand behind him.

Six dark figures immediately crawled forward; they had engineer shears tucked into their leg wrappings.

In the firing ports of the distant machine-gun bunker, the orange light flickered on and off.

"Cut!"

At Lao Hei's command, the few figures behind him all lay on the ground and began cutting the barbed wire fence.

The sound of the wire being cut was exceptionally jarring in the dark night.

But fortunately, the sound of the pouring rain covered this jarring noise.

A muffled groan suddenly came from the far left.

It turned out that a team member's palm had been pierced by a barb, but he stubbornly bit his clothes and did not make a loud sound.

The second electric fence was sizzling five meters away, and behind it was the runway; two tanker trucks were being pushed toward the hangar by enemy ground crew.

"Deploy the explosives!"

Liu Yang took out the explosives wrapped in oilcloth from his bosom, and just as he was about to have someone send them up, the searchlight on the watchtower suddenly turned back!

"Get down!" Lao Hei's voice was not loud, but everyone heard it.

Everyone pressed themselves tightly against the ground.

The white light of the searchlight swept across their backs, illuminating the pitch-black gun barrels in the sandbag fortifications thirty meters away.

Cold sweat streamed down Lao Hei's spine.

It was simply too dangerous.

He felt his adrenaline soaring.

"Forget it, blow it up directly! I'm going for it."

Lao Hei looked at Liu Yang, opened his mouth wide, and shouted in a low voice.

As he spoke, he ripped open his collar, revealing the six wooden-handled grenades strapped to his body.

"I'll lead the men of the Second Squad to draw fire; Old Liu, you guys flank around from the ditch and hide well, then find an opportunity to blow up the electric fence inside."

"Okay." Liu Yang nodded forcefully.

As the searchlight swept over again.

The Little Devils sentry on the watchtower discovered the anomaly here.

The barbed wire fence here had somehow been cut into a large gap.

They immediately sounded the alarm.

Now is the time!

Lao Hei led a dozen people to rush inside the barbed wire fence, advancing in a snake-like pattern, with bullets chasing their heels and kicking up mud.

When they were three meters away from the electric fence, gunfire rang out all around.

His right leg suddenly felt hot; he had been shot.

Thinking of this, Lao Hei gritted his teeth and pulled the grenade pin on his chest.

Then he rolled violently on the ground.

But the Little Devils' machine-gun bullets were faster.

Just as he reached the electric fence, his body was riddled with machine-gun bullets.

The next moment, the blast wave overturned the electric fence.

Inside the barbed wire fence, bursts of gunfire rang out.

The sound of the explosion was the bugle call for the charge.

Old Kui in the rear immediately ordered the Artilleryman to fire at the location of the explosion.

The sacrifice of these twenty-some Suicide Squad members was worth it.

Liu Yang lay in the stinking ditch, and seeing Lao Hei explode together with the grenades, his eyes turned red.

He looked at the machine gun in his hand; at this moment, the Little Devils' tanker trucks over there were still preparing to enter the hangar.

He raised the machine gun and swept fire toward the Little Devils' tanker trucks.

The tanker truck was hit by stray bullets and erupted into a fireball, lighting up the Airport as if it were daylight.

Seeing this, Liu Yang ignored the stray bullets around him.

He hugged the explosives in his hands and rushed past the barbed wire fence, then placed the explosives under the electric fence that had not yet completely collapsed.

He pulled the safety, and with a boom, the ground shook.

The electric fence, which had already collapsed, was blown away directly by the shockwave of the explosion, disappearing somewhere.

The shockwave of the explosion had not yet dissipated.

The vanguard troops following closely behind had already arrived at the blasted gap.

They had been watching the Suicide Squad's actions.

Seeing the other members of the Suicide Squad draw fire while two men actually hugged bombs to blow open the barbed wire and electric fence, they were deeply moved.

The Chinese Soldiers who rushed over from behind saw blood all over the ground.

Their expressions changed in shock; this was their first time seeing such a bloody scene.

Half a blood-stained garment still hung on the remains of the barbed wire fence, and under the washing of the heavy rain, the bloodstains were diluted.

At this moment, all the Little Devils at the Airport were attracted by the alarm.
