86: Chapter 86 The National Flag Stands Tall, Determination Rises

The young man beside him shouted out.

Seeing the explosives, Wang Ye was no longer calm either.

These Japanese soldiers brought explosives over; they were definitely here to blow things up.

There were quite a few Japanese soldiers, and each one of them carried an explosive pack on their back.

They didn't even seem to be carrying rifles; they just rushed over with only the explosives.

"That is a Japanese Suicide Squad; don't let them get close."

Before they could get close, Wang Ye ordered his men to open fire with machine guns.

In his livestream room, the viewers were somewhat shocked to see this group of Japanese soldiers carrying explosives.

They hadn't expected the Japanese to organize so many soldiers to take advantage of the dusk to attempt a demolition in order to breach The Warehouse.

The lightly equipped Japanese soldiers moved very quickly, and braving the machine gun fire, they soon reached the base of The Warehouse.

A dozen Japanese corpses were left behind them.

Seeing the Japanese soldiers reach the base of The Warehouse, Wang Ye picked up a grenade, pulled the pin, and threw it down.

The dozen or so Chinese Soldiers nearby did the same, and violent explosions immediately erupted below.

The grenade blasts knocked down a whole group of Japanese soldiers, but not many were actually killed.

The remaining Japanese soldiers crawled back up after the explosions.

They continued running toward a certain spot.

Wang Ye noticed that all the Japanese soldiers were moving toward the main gate of The Warehouse; judging by the situation, they intended to blow up the gate.

"Take out your grenades and throw them at them! Don't let them blow up the gate!" Wang Ye shouted urgently.

The Chinese Soldiers took their grenades and threw them down below.

These Japanese Suicide Squad members didn't fight back at all; they were single-mindedly focused on blowing up the gate of The Warehouse.

But if they had come sneakily, they might have succeeded.

However, since they had been discovered, it was surprising that they still dared to press forward.

Needless to say, they were met with bullets and grenades.

After leaving behind many corpses, they retreated.

Since they couldn't force a demolition, they had no choice but to retreat.

If they didn't retreat, they would have to stay there.

Seeing this group of Japanese Suicide Squad members retreat, Wang Ye breathed a sigh of relief.

If it hadn't been for a sharp-eyed Chinese Soldier, they really might have succeeded in their sneaky demolition attempt.

After this incident, Wang Ye ordered them to strengthen their vigilance for the night.

They absolutely could not let the Japanese soldiers sneak up to the base of the building again.

Wang Ye felt that the Japanese would certainly not give up so easily.

After strengthening the night watch, Wang Ye lay down to rest.

However, he didn't sleep too soundly, remaining vigilant at all times.

He would wake up at the slightest disturbance.

Ever since he started playing this, he hadn't dared to sleep too soundly.

It was the same when he returned to reality, which caused Wang Ye some distress.

Just as Wang Ye was resting with his eyes closed, the time reached the early hours of the morning.

"Enemy attack!"

The cry of "Enemy attack!" immediately woke Wang Ye up.

Wang Ye opened his eyes.

"Enemy attack? Where are the Japanese soldiers?"

He stood up immediately and then heard the sound of machine guns pouring out bullets.

He ran to the protective wall, looked down, and soon discovered the traces of the Japanese soldiers.

In the livestream room, the viewers also discovered the traces of the Japanese soldiers.

The game time was currently the early hours of the morning.

"Damn it, I knew the Japanese wouldn't give up so easily."

"Launching a sneak attack in the middle of the night is disgusting; they won't let people get any proper rest."

"Isn't this normal? There are bound to be sneak attacks at night. Do you think war is a game of house for children, fighting during the day and not at night?"

"It's fortunate that these Chinese Soldiers discovered the Japanese sneak attack; otherwise, the situation would be unimaginable."

Wang Ye immediately picked up his rifle and fired at the Japanese soldiers sneaking around below.

There weren't many Japanese soldiers who came to sneak attack, only about a dozen or so.

The battle only lasted for a dozen minutes before these Japanese soldiers were all wiped out.

After such an encounter, most of the Chinese Soldiers had no desire to sleep.

Wang Ye also lost his sleepiness.

He told the brothers who had been on watch during the first half of the night to rest; they had been on high-intensity patrol, and if they didn't rest well, they would certainly lack energy tomorrow.

At this moment, a young man walked to Wang Ye's side.

"Shu Sheng, why don't you go get some more sleep?"

"No need, Company Commander, I'm not tired."

"Go get some sleep, rest a bit more so you can fight the Japanese tomorrow," Wang Ye said, patting him on the shoulder.

Upon hearing this, Shu Sheng nodded and then lay down on the floor nearby.

The floor was covered with coarse cloth to prevent it from being uncomfortable.

Although the floor was hard, it was okay to sleep on.

The temperature at night was slightly lower, much cooler than during the day.

During the second half of the night, the Japanese did not send anyone else to sneak attack.

Wang Ye's eyes were bloodshot.

Although he had slept for a few hours, he had been up all through the latter half of the night.

If the Japanese did this every day, he might not really be able to hold out.

However, one piece of good news for the night was that there were no casualties.

With the help of the sturdy fortifications of The Warehouse, the Japanese artillery bombardment did not cause them much damage.

There were basically no casualties.

Conversely, the Japanese lost quite a few soldiers.

The results they gained from each charge were almost nonexistent.

One charge, one retreat.

Each time, they left behind a dozen corpses.

At the first light of dawn, Wang Ye rubbed his somewhat tired eyes.

He closed them to rest for a while.

It was now daytime, and the Chinese Soldiers on the shift change had already woken up.

At this moment, there was suddenly some movement below.

"Company Commander, there's a situation; someone has come from the opposite bank," Shu Sheng said, running to Wang Ye's side.

Upon hearing this, Wang Ye got up and went to the protective wall.

He saw someone below; judging by their attire, it wasn't a Japanese soldier, but seemed to be one of their own.

Moreover, it was a girl, and she seemed to be holding something in her hand.

At this moment, there was a noise behind him; Wang Ye turned to look, and it was Regimental Adjutant Xie Jin.

He was followed by a few people, and they were holding a rope.

"Wang Ye, throw the rope down. The person below is here to deliver the national flag to us," Regimental Adjutant Xie Jin said.

Subsequently, the two people beside him threw the rope down.

The girl below tied the national flag onto the rope.

Soon, the rope was pulled up.

Wang Ye saw a flag.

He had never seen the pattern on this flag before.

"Is this the national flag?"

Wang Ye wondered to himself.

After delivering the national flag, the girl below immediately left The Warehouse.

She jumped into the river beside it and swam back to the International Settlement.

"Raise the national flag," Regimental Adjutant Xie Jin said, taking the national flag and stroking it gently with his fingers.

Seeing the national flag, his gaze became firm.

The Chinese Soldiers raised the national flag, and it rose to the top floor of the Sihang Warehouse.

On the opposite bank, the people of Shanghai in the International Settlement saw the flag slowly rising.

Men watched the national flag rise, feeling a sense of shock in their hearts unconsciously.

Beside them, the people who saw the national flag rise couldn't help but cheer.

The girl who had just risked swimming across the river to deliver the national flag was also watching that flag.

The national flag fluttered in the wind, allowing those of them who were Chinese in the International Settlement to see hope.

They saw the nation's determination to resist.

Top floor of the Sihang Warehouse.

Wang Ye looked at this national flag; although he didn't have any particular feelings about this flag.

But seeing the determination on the faces of the Chinese Soldiers present, he was moved.

Suddenly, he seemed to hear some sound.

He looked in the direction of the sound.

It was in the International Settlement; countless people had gathered on the riverbank of the International Settlement, cheering and waving toward the national flag.

Seeing this scene, Wang Ye was deeply moved.
