19: Chapter 019 Firing with their lives on the line!

Wang Ye looked down at his equipment.

He discovered that what he was carrying on his back seemed to be a military green wooden crate.

Not far from him, Wang Ye saw someone carrying what looked like a mortar tube.

Had he become an Artilleryman?

This game start was completely different from the previous ones.

Before, he always started as an ordinary infantryman charging into battle, but now he was actually an Artilleryman.

However, Wang Ye suddenly realized that he didn't know how to operate artillery.

He was good with guns, but artillery was a different story.

If an Artilleryman didn't undergo systematic training, there was no way to hit anything.

"This is messed up, brothers. I actually started this round as an Artilleryman."

Wang Ye couldn't help but complain to the audience in the livestream room.

Then, he directly asked the audience for help.

"Brothers, does anyone know how to operate artillery? Teach me online."

Just then, a bullet comment suddenly caught Wang Ye's eye.

"I'm a retired Artilleryman. I know this kind of mortar; the principles are all pretty much the same. Let me explain it to you simply..."

Seeing this bullet comment, Wang Ye immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

But when he saw the bullet comment that the viewer sent afterward, he was completely bewildered.

Because he couldn't understand a bit of what they were saying.

By this time, the audience also realized that Wang Ye didn't understand.

"Hahaha, Brother Wang, this is a disastrous start for this round."

"It's fine, maybe you aren't the one firing. After all, I see that what you are carrying, Brother Wang, looks like mortar shells. You must be transporting shells."

"True, don't look at how many people there are. There are probably only two people actually firing the artillery."

Seeing the audience's bullet comments, Wang Ye could only pray in his heart that he wasn't the one firing the artillery.

Just then, Wang Ye saw the Artilleryman Platoon Leader walk over and shout at the Chinese Soldiers resting on the ground:

"Time to move out, we're changing positions."

Seeing this, Wang Ye stood up.

Only then did he feel that the mortar shells on his back were quite heavy.

Following the Platoon Leader to change positions, they walked for one or two kilometers before reaching the new position.

Putting down the wooden crate on his back, Wang Ye was almost exhausted to death.

However, he still had it better; after all, the person carrying the mortar tube was even more tired.

After resting for a moment, Wang Ye saw the Squad Leader start arranging for them to set up the Artilleryman position.

The others carrying the mortar parts assembled the mortars.

It only took about ten minutes to set up the position.

Wang Ye took a look at the mortars on the position and discovered that there were only two mortars.

The configuration of this Artilleryman platoon was too pathetic.

An Artilleryman platoon only had two guns.

Moreover, he checked the mortar shells he was carrying, and adding everyone's together, there were only sixty-something shells in total.

Divided between the two guns, that was only about thirty shells per gun.

The audience in the livestream room also noticed this.

"666, is the configuration of this Artilleryman platoon really this pathetic?"

"I see that a platoon of over 20 people only has two guns, and everything relies on manual labor to carry; why isn't there even a single vehicle?"

"Compared to our modern times, the Artilleryman platoon configuration in this game is too poor, and this is still a German-equipped Division, the most elite force."

"According to the game's setting, wouldn't the local ordinary armies that appear later not even have artillery?"

"It's possible. Isn't China in this era an agricultural country? It seems normal that they can't produce artillery."

"Then how do they win?"

Wang Ye looked at the bullet comments, sat for a while, and then looked at the Squad Leader next to him and asked.

"Squad Leader, are we just going to guard like this?"

"The Battalion Commander's orders haven't arrived yet, so of course we're guarding. Do you expect us to charge?" The Squad Leader shook his head and said.

"Only when the fighting starts in the front will it be our turn to perform."

"Can't we take the initiative to attack?" Wang Ye asked, confused.

"Take the initiative to attack? How do you want to take the initiative to attack?" The Squad Leader looked at him with a strange expression.

"Use the artillery to bomb them."

"No, did you lose your mind today, kid? The infantry hasn't even gone up yet, what are we going to do? We only have 30 shells per gun, how are we supposed to take the initiative to attack?"

As the Squad Leader said this, he also slapped Wang Ye on the head heavily.

Wang Ye immediately rubbed his head; those two slaps from the Squad Leader actually hurt quite a bit.

He had just been stupid.

His combat mindset was still stuck on the previous few times he charged to attack the bridge.

"If you fire first, do you think the Little Devils' artillery and naval guns are just for show?" The Squad Leader glared at Wang Ye again.

Wang Ye stopped talking.

But a moment later, the Platoon Leader suddenly stood up and took out binoculars to observe the distance.

"The fighting has started over there."

"Prepare to load!"

The Platoon Leader shouted.

The Squad Leader, who was just sitting around, immediately stood up.

Then he ran to the mortar.

"Fire three rounds per gun, and retreat immediately after firing."

As he spoke, the Platoon Leader determined the angle and direction for firing based on his experience.

Wang Ye saw three shells fired one after another.

After the three shells were fired, Wang Ye saw the Squad Leader immediately begin to dismantle the mortar.

"What are you still standing there for? Hurry up and put the shells on your back!" The Squad Leader saw Wang Ye still standing there without moving and immediately scolded him.

He snapped out of it and shouldered the ammunition crate.

Although he didn't know why the Squad Leader seemed so anxious.

But Wang Ye knew that regardless of the reason, just listening to the Squad Leader was enough.

After the mortar was dismantled, the Platoon Leader immediately ordered an emergency change of position!

Wang Ye immediately shouldered the ammunition crate and followed to change positions.

Just after running out of the original position for a little while, Wang Ye heard whistling sounds.

Immediately afterward, several shells landed on the original position, and the explosions kicked up clouds of smoke and dust.

"Holy crap." Wang Ye widened his eyes.

No wonder they had to retreat; if they had retreated any later, they would have been blown into bloody mist.

And the Little Devils on the other side were truly ruthless, firing a dozen or so shells over.

It was as if they knew exactly where they were.

Needless to say, Wang Ye also knew it was because the sound of them firing just now had exposed their position.

"Now do you know why we don't take the initiative to attack, kid?" The Squad Leader looked at Wang Ye with deep meaning.

Wang Ye nodded immediately.

He understood; he understood perfectly now.

He had been hit by covering artillery fire before.

But that kind of artillery fire wasn't very dense.

However, the artillery coverage just now was not only dense but also pinpointed.

How was being an Artilleryman such a dangerous job?

They were clearly hiding in the back.

"Careful, there are planes in the sky, hurry and hide."

A shout suddenly came from the distance.

Before Wang Ye could react, he was pulled to the corner of the street wall.

Immediately after, a rumbling sound rang out.

Several planes flew across the sky and dropped bombs on this area.

One bomb was even dropped directly onto a house not far from Wang Ye.

The debris from the blown-up building grazed his head and smashed into the wall next to him, giving him a fright.

Looking at the bricks that were bigger than his fist, Wang Ye was scared into a cold sweat.

He was almost headshot by a flying brick.

If he had been headshot, wouldn't his brains have spilled all over the ground!

Wang Ye wanted to see if the planes had flown away, but he was immediately pulled back.

"Don't go out."

Just as the Squad Leader finished speaking, a moment later, the Little Devils' planes turned around and came back.

There were more huge explosions.

The surrounding buildings and the ground were shaking.

Wang Ye cursed inwardly, will this ever end?
