16: The No.1 Chinese Power

"Mr. Qian, this is today's list of interviewees."

Kim Min-jun handed over a file.

"30 Chinese international students."

"They are all from Yonsei, Korea University, and Sungkyunkwan University."

Qian Xu took the list.

He scanned it.

It was full of Chinese names.

"Let's begin."

The interviews were held at the office in Apgujeong.

Kim Min-jun had temporarily cleared out a conference room.

He set up tables and chairs.

And placed two bottles of water.

The first interviewee walked in.

He was a young man.

Wearing a white shirt and black trousers.

He wore glasses.

"Hello, my name is Wang Lei."

"I am a Business Administration major at Korea University."

"I am currently a graduate student."

Qian Xu looked at him.

"Why do you want to join Yunmengze?"

Wang Lei paused for a moment.

"Because..."

"Because this is a company run by Chinese people."

"I have been in Korea for three years."

"I've interviewed at many companies."

"But when they saw that I was Chinese,"

"They just told me to go home and wait for a notification."

"And there was never a follow-up."

Qian Xu nodded.

"What position are you applying for?"

"Operations Assistant."

"Good."

"You passed."

Wang Lei was stunned.

"Just like that... I passed?"

"Yes."

"Come to work tomorrow."

The second interviewee.

Was a young woman.

With long hair draped over her shoulders.

Wearing a dress.

"Hello, my name is Li Xue."

"I am a Journalism and Media major from Yonsei University."

"I have a bachelor's degree."

Qian Xu asked.

"Why do you want to join Yunmengze?"

Li Xue thought for a moment.

"Because I want to work for Chinese people."

"I have been in Korea for two years."

"Interning at a Korean company."

"Every day, I was bossed around by Korean colleagues."

"Serving coffee, photocopying documents, ordering takeout."

"They said this was an intern's duty."

"But Korean interns didn't have to do these things."

"Because they were Korean."

Qian Xu nodded.

"What position are you applying for?"

"New Media Operations."

"Good."

"You passed."

The third interviewee.

Was a young man.

Not very tall.

But his eyes were very bright.

"Hello, my name is Zhang Wei."

"I am a Chinese Literature major from Sungkyunkwan University."

"I have a master's degree."

Qian Xu asked.

"Why do you want to join Yunmengze?"

Zhang Wei smiled.

"Because I majored in Chinese."

"It's very hard to find a job in Korea."

"They think that for Chinese people to study Chinese,"

"Is just a matter of course."

"They don't consider it an advantage."

"But I think,"

"Chinese is my weapon."

"I want to use Chinese,"

"To work for Chinese people."

Qian Xu nodded.

"What position are you applying for?"

"Translator."

"Good."

"You passed."

The interviews continued.

The fourth.

The fifth.

The sixth.

Qian Xu only asked one question.

"Why do you want to join Yunmengze?"

The answers were all the same.

"Because it's a company run by Chinese people."

"Because I don't want to be discriminated against."

"Because I want to work for Chinese people."

30 people.

Qian Xu finished interviewing everyone.

He selected 12 of them.

Wang Lei, Li Xue, and Zhang Wei.

And 9 others.

Position allocation:

Operations Assistant: 3 people

New Media Operations: 3 people

Translator: 2 people

Copywriting/Planning: 2 people

Administrative Assistant: 2 people

Kim Min-jun looked at the list.

"Mr. Qian, are 12 people enough?"

"That's enough."

"Let them have a trial period first."

"Those who perform well will be made permanent."

"Those who perform average will leave after their internship ends."

"But an opportunity,"

"I will give it to everyone."

Kim Min-jun nodded.

"Okay, I will arrange their onboarding."

"Wait."

Qian Xu called him back.

"Representative Kim."

"Are the employment contracts ready?"

"They are ready."

"Bring them here for me to see."

Kim Min-jun took the contracts out of a drawer.

Qian Xu opened them.

He read them page by page.

Page 1: Basic Information.

Page 2: Job Responsibilities.

Page 3: Salary and Benefits.

Page 4: Probationary Clauses.

Page 5: Confidentiality Agreement.

Page 6: Non-compete Clause.

Qian Xu finished reading.

He closed the contracts.

"Representative Kim."

"There is a problem with these contracts."

Kim Min-jun was stunned.

"What problem?"

"First, the probation period is too long."

"Change it from three months to one month."

"Second, the salary is too low."

"Change the monthly salary from 2.5 million KRW to 3 million."

"Third, overtime pay."

"It must be paid according to labor law regulations."

"Fourth, social insurance."

"It must be paid in full."

"Not a single penny less."

Kim Min-jun looked at him.

"Mr. Qian, the costs will be very high."

"I know."

"But they are Chinese."

"Chinese people working in Korea."

"I cannot let them be bullied."

"I want them to know."

"That in a company run by Chinese people,"

"They will not be discriminated against."

"They will not have their wages withheld."

"They will not be treated as cheap labor."

Kim Min-jun was silent for a few seconds.

"Okay, I will redo the contracts."

"Also."

Qian Xu continued.

"Everyone must sign an employment contract."

"A formal contract."

"Not an internship agreement."

"Not a service contract."

"It must be a standard employment contract."

"The kind protected by Korean labor law."

Kim Min-jun nodded.

"Understood."

"I will go handle it immediately."

3:00 PM.

The 12 interviewees were called back to the office.

In the conference room.

The new employment contracts were on the table.

Qian Xu stood in front.

Looking at them.

"Everyone."

"Congratulations on passing the interview."

"Starting tomorrow,"

"You are official employees of Yunmengze Entertainment."

"These are your employment contracts."

"Please read them carefully."

"You can ask if you have any questions."

Wang Lei picked up a contract.

He opened it.

The first page.

"Monthly salary: 3 million KRW."

He was stunned.

"Mr. Qian, a monthly salary of 3 million?"

"Yes."

"3 million even during the probation period?"

"Yes."

"A one-month probation period?"

"Yes."

Wang Lei's mouth hung open.

Unable to speak.

In Korea.

For Chinese international student interns.

A monthly salary of 1.5 million would be considered decent.

3 million.

That is the starting salary for graduates of reputable Korean universities.

Li Xue was also stunned.

She looked at the contract.

"Overtime pay paid according to labor law?"

"Yes."

"Social insurance paid in full?"

"Yes."

"15 days of paid annual leave?"

"Yes."

She looked at Qian Xu.

"Mr. Qian, is this real?"

"It's real."

"It takes effect once the contract is signed."

The conference room fell silent.

12 people.

All looking at the contracts in their hands.

Some had reddened eyes.

Zhang Wei lowered his head.

His voice trembling slightly.

"I've been in Korea for three years."

"I've changed five companies."

"Not one of them signed an employment contract with me."

"They were all verbal agreements."

"They said a three-month probation period."

"But after three months,"

"They said I wasn't a good fit."

"And told me to leave."

"Without a single cent of compensation."

He raised his head.

Looking at Qian Xu.

"Mr. Qian, thank you."

"Thank you for giving us this opportunity."

"Thank you for treating us like human beings."

Qian Xu looked at him.

"Don't thank me."

"Thank yourselves."

"You chose to trust Chinese people."

"You chose to trust Yunmengze."

"I only have one request."

"Work hard."

"Prove it with your ability."

"That Chinese people are no worse than anyone else."

12 people answered in unison.

"Okay!"

After signing the contracts.

Qian Xu walked out of the conference room.

Kim Min-jun followed him out.

"Mr. Qian, you really are a good person."

"Not a good person."

Qian Xu smiled.

"I am Chinese."

"Helping Chinese people."

He paused.

"And besides,"

"These people will become the cornerstone of Yunmengze."

"They will work their hearts out."

"Because here,"

"Is their home."
