42: Chapter 42 Meeting with Vera and her siblings

A mana riot is certainly not a pleasant thing for wizards.

Once this situation occurs, it almost means the wizard is in a desperate situation.

Normally, wizards strictly control the number of spells they cast to avoid the rapid depletion of their own mental power.

Only by maintaining one's mental power at a healthy level can one steadily maintain the Spell Models constructed by oneself.

And only then can they quickly absorb natural mana or rely on magic stones to restore their own mana when it is consumed.

Therefore, a qualified Wizard Apprentice will not casually cast a Spell Model, as that would accelerate their own mana consumption.

Once they encounter a greater crisis, they will easily fall into a desperate situation.

And a mana riot is a very perilous predicament.

When a Wizard Apprentice's mental power drops to a certain extent, the wizard may even fall into a coma.

Under this circumstance, it will cause their own mana to run amok in their body.

Mana seemingly appears to be a harmless energy in the hands of a Wizard Apprentice.

But the truth is, when Wizard Apprentices do not yet have the means of Official Wizards to strengthen their own fragile physical bodies,

once mana goes out of control and riots, it will endanger their own safety.

Mana will surge, running amok, colliding, and canceling each other out in the wizard's body like rebellious soldiers, and countless mana will stir up natural elemental particles.

If there are companions around, it is fine.

Once this situation occurs alone, the possible crises multiply.

For example, in lava regions, the alien fire elements in the environment are extremely dangerous.

The mana in the Wizard Apprentice's body triggers the dense fire elements in the outside world, causing spontaneous combustion.

Under the blessing of mana, the wizard's body will be rapidly burned by the fire element particles.

Under extreme conditions, it can burn the physical body to ashes within two hours of the wizard losing consciousness.

Or in an environment with no or little mana, one's own mana flows away rapidly; although it will not endanger the body, it may cause damage to one's own mana core.

In this case, what is permanently lost is not only the mana in the body, but also one's own weak origin.

This intangible and untouchable thing is even more difficult and tricky.

This is an origin injury that even ordinary Level 1 wizards cannot cure.

Once a Wizard Apprentice suffers this kind of injury, it almost means he has lost the ability to go further.

Even if he hones his mental power to the level of 9999, he will still fall at the final leap and will forever be unable to step into the realm of an Official Wizard.

Therefore, no matter what critical situation it is, Ross must cautiously respond according to the circumstances.

He cannot act willfully just because he masters more Spell Models in his hands than other apprentices of the same level.

Arrogance is a disaster for wizards.

Ignorance, on the other hand, is nothing much for wizards.

Whether an apprentice or an Official Wizard, as long as they are willing to admit in their hearts that there are things they do not know, and are willing to spend time and magic stones to learn, they can eliminate their ignorance.

But pride and complacency have always been flaws that wizards look down upon.

...

Ross arrived early at the academy's mission hall and waited here for the apprentices who had accepted the commission for Boulder Town. They came together.

One Level 3 Wizard Apprentice, one Level 2 Wizard Apprentice.

And their relationship seemed quite close.

However, normally with this level of commission, it would not attract a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice to participate.

But this time the situation seemed a bit special.

"Hello, my name is Vera Hope, I'm very glad to meet you. I'm also one of the members for this commission, hehe."

A lively and cute young girl with a ponytail and dazzling light golden hair transmitted her sweet and clear voice into Ross's ears.

"As for the other member, he is my older brother, named Edmund Hope. But he entered the Wizard Academy a few years earlier than me. So his strength is stronger than mine now, and he is a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice."

This other Level 2 Wizard Apprentice named Edmund Hope looked much more calm and mature compared to Vera at this moment.

Edmund was not as cheerful, outgoing, and lively as the young girl Vera.

His facial temperament was colder, and his tone of speech was not good with words.

"My name is Edmund, and I'm Vera's older brother."

Seeing that this pair of siblings had both finished introducing themselves,

Ross found it hard to continue pretending to be some cold and aloof wizard image, after all, there was still a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice present here.

"My name is Ross, a newly enrolled Level 3 Wizard Apprentice."

Hearing Ross's response, the expressions and reactions of the two people on the scene were quite different.

A smile appeared on Vera's face, and her attitude towards Ross became noticeably much closer as she replied:

"Are you actually also a newly enrolled apprentice? I haven't heard your name in this year's club yet."

"But that's not right, a Level 3 Wizard Apprentice can enter almost any club. Clubs are also places where we apprentices huddle together for warmth."

Unlike Vera's enthusiastic and favorable attitude, Edmund's reaction at this moment appeared somewhat impatient.

"Going out to execute commissions is not a very safe thing. If you aren't truly lacking magic stones, I suggest you don't go."

Looking at the different reactions of this pair of siblings, Ross could roughly figure out their personalities.

Although Edmund's reaction towards him was quite cold compared to his younger sister's,

this was a normal reaction upon first meeting a stranger without understanding them,

and he also advised Ross not to take risks for magic stones. In Ross's view, this older brother fit Ross's requirements for teammates better than his sister.

Going out to execute academy commissions requires reliable teammates, not a burden holding them back.

If according to Ross's original expectation, this kind of commission accepted by three people was generally a combination of three Wizard Apprentices.

Like Vera, a distinctly newly enrolled Level 3 apprentice,

whose means and mana were both very far-fetched, would be a teammate not in line with Ross's interests.

The arrival of her older brother Edmund made up for this.

The strength and experience of a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice were things that a few Level 3 Wizard Apprentices could not compare to.

With such a wizard as a companion, the safety of this operation could also be guaranteed.

It's just that this Wizard Apprentice named Edmund seemed somewhat skeptical of Ross's strength.

However, this was also within reason.

After all, Ross said he was one of the newly enrolled trainees.

Trainees like him, with the strength of a newly entered Level 3 Wizard Apprentice, at least shouldn't go out or go out to execute tasks.

As for Vera, who was accompanied by someone, that was a different matter.
