66: Chapter 66 Barren Land

After Ross heard some details and descriptions of the cultivation from the Goblin Supervisor.

He basically determined that this supervisor had indeed taken his matters to heart.

Some details, if not experienced personally, would be very hard to describe so clearly.

"Thank you for your hard work, Supervisor."

Ross also didn't hesitate to utter words of praise; after all, there is a saying: "You can never have too many good words."

Hearing Ross's compliment and praise, the Goblin Supervisor was both surprised and felt honored.

As a Disciple of its master, he was the young master.

The matters entrusted to it naturally had to be taken to heart.

"You flatter me, Young Master Ross. This is all what I should do. Now that you are back, everything is returned to its rightful owner."

"That's right, Young Master Ross, the master has already returned. He is right in the central laboratory. He said that after you return, remember to go look for him."

Short in stature yet paying great attention to the master-servant relationship, the Goblin Supervisor recalled Professor Pulang's words upon seeing Ross.

Ross also snapped back to his senses from some cultivation record manuals handed to him by the Goblin Supervisor. Hearing the news that Professor Pulang had returned, he was extremely happy and then said,

"Oh, Professor Pulang has actually finished his business and returned. Then of course I must go greet the professor."

Before Ross left the academy, Professor Pulang had disappeared for a period of time.

Neither Ross nor the Goblin Supervisor was clear about the whereabouts of an Official Wizard, nor were they qualified to ask.

This time, not only did Ross complete the academy's external commission, but even Professor Pulang returned.

Now that Ross's backing was back, his own confidence would be a bit more substantial.

Besides, Ross's own Mental Energy had improved quite a bit in the "Ghoul Secret Realm".

He had already broken through to the threshold of 1,000 Mental Energy, promoting to a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice.

With such rapid progress of his own, he naturally had to report this good news to his mentor in a timely manner.

This way, it would also let his mentor understand that his potential was not just in tinkering with some magical plants and mana microorganisms.

In the Cultivation of the wizardly path, he was also a gifted Genius.

After bidding farewell to the Goblin Supervisor, Ross also walked quickly towards the experimental center within the Advanced Plantation.

After tidying up his appearance, Ross curled his fingertips and gently knocked on Professor Pulang's office door.

"Knock, knock, knock."

"Come in, Ross."

Professor Pulang's steady voice rang out.

Hearing the voice telling him to enter, Ross also raised his foot, opened the door, and stepped into the office.

Professor Pulang's office was very minimalist. Near the entrance was a leather sofa, opposite which were placed several ordinary plants as decoration.

Directly facing the door was Professor Pulang's desk, and he himself was sitting, half-leaning against the desk.

"Long time no see, little Ross."

Professor Pulang said.

"Previously, I made a trip to the outside world to find the Lord Headmaster of our Elius Wizard Academy. Aside from coming to the academy periodically, his old man hardly ever stays in the academy."

"This time, going out to find the Lord Headmaster was also for that thesis of yours on 'mana microorganisms'. Originally, wanting to have it published in the academy's journal was still somewhat difficult; at the very least, one had to be a First-Ring Wizard Apprentice and have a laboratory in a key Domain to endorse it."

In the process of speaking, Professor Pulang was also observing Ross.

As he carefully sensed the Mental Energy fluctuations coming from Ross and the magic pressure emitted, he let out a sound of surprise.

"Eh, thi-this magic fluctuation and Mental Energy strength. Ross, have you already broken through to a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice?"

Seeing Professor Pulang's speechless surprise, Ross felt somewhat smug, but he quickly reined in that shred of complacent emotion.

After all, having interacted with the "Legendary" Ghoul in the Secret Realm, Ross already knew the gap between Wizard Apprentices and Official Wizards.

Do not look at this professor before him whose hair was already turning white and who showed some signs of aging, as if he were merely an ordinary elderly person.

This person possessed combat prowess at least no less than the "Legendary" grade, plus Professor Pulang was not a newly advanced First-Ring Wizard.

He had probably stayed in the Realm of a First-Ring Wizard for a very long time.

Therefore, his sensing of Ross's Mental Energy and magic pressure was also extremely accurate, and he could even estimate that Ross should have just broken through to a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice not long ago.

"Yes, Mentor. It was also while going out to complete a commission that I accidentally stumbled into a 'Secret Realm', enabling me to break through to the Realm of a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice so quickly."

"I almost died inside the Secret Realm; if it weren't for Wizard Ian from the academy arriving in time to rescue me, I'm afraid I wouldn't have my life to come see you."

Ross put on a pitiful look at this moment. Professor Pulang didn't feel much about it; after a long time, it was Ross himself who felt somewhat awkward.

"Not bad. Although there were some crises, 'Secret Realms' are something one can only encounter by chance, not by demand. Your ability to obtain such a massive improvement is inseparable from this Secret Realm."

"Of course, caution should still be your primary concern. After all, given your talent, your improvement within the academy will also be very fast. As long as you get on the right track, your advancement will be swift."

Through their continuous conversation, both parties understood what each other had been busy with.

Ross himself also explained how he cooperated with his teammates and how he fought against Ghouls with roughly six times the strength inside the Secret Realm.

As well as how the monsters in this Secret Realm would drop light clusters that could enhance a Wizard Apprentice's Mental Energy after death.

Under Professor Pulang's explanation, Ross also gained a deeper understanding of Secret Realms and otherworldly creatures.

It turned out that this barrens of low mana where the Elius Wizard Academy was located belonged to the fringe areas of the Wizard World.

Therefore, it was very difficult to monitor these 'Secret Realms' swallowed and digested by the World Will.

In some central core regions of the Wizard World, not only were the mana level and concentration far superior to the fringe areas,

but even abnormal mana fluctuations could be monitored in a timely manner, thus almost never missing such 'Secret Realm' opportunities.

Breaking through to an Official Wizard there would also be somewhat easier.

Even Spells and higher-tier knowledge from deeper-level wizards were rarely passed down here.

Therefore, some wizards dedicated to advancing to higher Wizard Ranks would want to head to regions with higher mana concentration.

However, no matter where it was, there were powers entrenched there.

If one was merely a First-Ring Wizard, although they could also linger in those core regions,

they would only barely manage to survive, and those with mediocre talent might as well stay in the fringe areas.

Staying among the Official Wizard powers in those barren lands, digging out resources for advancement through time, accumulating experience, and seeking advancement would be much steadier.
