230: The dowry left by her mother

Although Jiang Shuwan was angry, she knew that making a scene would be useless. Under Feng Ming's comfort, she wrote out a formal Visiting Card.

After the guard accepted the card, he waved them away. "Alright, go back and wait for notification."

"If the Visiting Card is approved, the Jiang Family will naturally arrange for someone to notify you at the address provided on the card."

Jiang Shuwan was stunned. "How long will it take?"

They didn't have much time; the Trial would begin in five days.

The guard said indifferently, "That's hard to say. If it's fast, two or three days; if it's slow, it could take ten days to half a month!"

"What?" Jiang Shuwan grew anxious on the spot. "I am returning to my own home to see my mother!"

"Ten days to half a month? The Liangzhou Trial starts in five days. How could I possibly have that much time?"

The guard's expression remained cold. "Lady, it's useless to shout at me. This is the Family Head's order!"

"I'm just a servant on duty, what can I do? If I let you in today, my head would be on the chopping block!"

"Forget it, forget it!" Feng Ming stepped forward to comfort her. "We'll think of another way!"

As he spoke, Feng Ming hurriedly pulled Jiang Shuwan away.

But to be honest, Feng Ming had truly had his eyes opened.

Good grief, a woman from one's own Family who had married out actually needed a Visiting Card just to come back and visit her mother.

This sort of thing—it was likely no decent human being would do it.

This Family Head was truly a piece of work!

On the way back, Feng Ming inquired, "Shuwan, who is the current Family Head of your Jiang Family?"

"Jiang Yan, the eldest son of Jiang Qinghe. For the past two years, Jiang Qinghe has basically stopped involving himself in Family affairs, but I didn't expect Jiang Yan to be so excessive."

"What do women like us who have married out count for in his eyes? Requiring a Visiting Card to visit my mother... it truly infuriates me!"

Feng Ming put his arm around Jiang Shuwan's shoulder to comfort her. "Don't worry. Although Jiang Yan set such a rule, the Jiang Family has a large population and their residences are scattered. I don't believe he personally reviews every single Visiting Card!"

Jiang Shuwan was taken aback. "What do you mean?"

Feng Ming continued, "I feel that this Visiting Card will ultimately be seen by the people in the residence where your mother stays. With so many courtyards, each one must have a person in charge!"

"It's impossible for Jiang Yan to read every card; otherwise, wouldn't he work himself to death? Let's go to the Fangyuan Restaurant at the crossroads first. While there are plenty of people, we can scout for information to see who is in charge of your mother's side, then make our plans."

Jiang Shuwan nodded quickly.

Fangyuan Restaurant.

Huangfu Yunyan and Huangfu Rui brought their Maid and found a remote corner to sit down.

The restaurant had three floors in total. The first floor was the most crowded and accessible to anyone. The second floor consisted of private rooms with certain status requirements. The third floor was the VIP area, which required an even more prestigious status to enter!

Huangfu Yunyan indeed had her ways. As soon as she sat down, she beckoned a Waiter over and tucked a High-Grade Spirit Stone into his hand.

"Brother, are there any distinguished guests in the restaurant today?"

Huangfu Yunyan asked directly. Places like Fangyuan Restaurant were a mixed bag where information was plentiful; many people came here specifically to scout for news like she was.

The Waiter was not surprised and lowered his voice. "Since you put it that way, there really is one: the Eldest Young Master of the Jiang Family, Jiang Huai."

"He's currently in a private room on the second floor. He's been there for a while now, so I reckon he'll be coming down soon."

After saying that, the Waiter left with a smile.

The implication was that the man would be down shortly; as for whether she could successfully strike up a conversation, that depended on her own skill!

Huangfu Yunyan smiled and stood up. "You guys wait here. I'm going outside to wait for that Young Master Jiang."

"Go outside? Why go outside? Wouldn't it be better to just go upstairs and find him?"

Huangfu Rui was completely bewildered. Huangfu Yunyan rolled her eyes at him. "Idot, if we could go up, wouldn't the Waiter have said so?"

"The second floor isn't a place just anyone can go. I've been watching for a long time, and during all this time, no Cultivator other than the Waiters has gone up there. Do you think our status qualifies us to enter?"

"Then you can just wait here. There's no need to go outside."

Huangfu Yunyan's face turned green with anger. "You fool, you have no brains at all. What if Feng Ming and the others show up later? Do you want to be caught?"

"Are your eyes just for show? Look at how many people here are like us, staring at the stairs for Jiang Huai to appear. If you can even squeeze in front of Jiang Huai here, I'll admit defeat!"

Hearing this, Huangfu Rui looked around. Good grief—he hadn't realized until she pointed it out. There really were many people eyeing the second-floor exit, and most of them were young women.

There were quite a few who wanted a romantic encounter with Jiang Huai to soar like a Phoenix.

After all, Jiang Huai was the eldest son of the current Family Head and had a high probability of inheriting the Jiang Family. His status and position went without saying.

"You two stay here and keep an eye on Feng Ming and the others. Just wait for my news!"

Huangfu Yunyan left those words behind and turned to leave the restaurant.

Five minutes after Huangfu Yunyan left, a handsome young man in white robes walked down from upstairs.

As soon as he appeared, the restaurant suddenly became restless. Countless young women seemed to go mad, rushing forward to get ahead of one another.

Jiang Huai had long been accustomed to such scenes. Over a dozen subordinates immediately rushed out from his side, blocking all those women away.

Jiang Huai didn't even look at those women and walked straight out of the restaurant.

Huangfu Rui was very curious; this young man was a bit too calm. With so many beauties, he didn't even spare them a glance.

Could Huangfu Yunyan really handle a man like this?

Huangfu Rui subconsciously stood up and followed to the restaurant entrance, wanting to see what Huangfu Yunyan would do.

At the entrance.

Huangfu Yunyan stood beside a very luxurious carriage, urgently saying something to the guards. Curious, Huangfu Rui moved a bit closer.

When he heard Huangfu Yunyan's words, he was instantly stunned.

Could Huangfu Yunyan really succeed with such a clumsy excuse?

And since when did she have an ancestral hairpin?

Claiming it was lost—this was clearly her scheme.

When the guards saw Jiang Huai walking over, they immediately greeted him.

"Young Master!"

Seeing Jiang Huai approach, Huangfu Rui was startled. "Damn, Huangfu Yunyan really has some tricks up her sleeve, actually knowing that was Jiang Huai's carriage."

But in an instant, he understood. Among all the carriages around, this one was the most luxurious.

As long as one wasn't stupid, they would know.

Jiang Huai glanced at Huangfu Yunyan and asked the guard, "What's the situation?"

"This lady says her ancestral hairpin was lost near our carriage and wants to come over to look for it. I didn't agree. Young Master, what do you think?"

Huangfu Yunyan quickly spoke up, "I'm sorry, Young Master, for delaying your business. But I've lost my hairpin; it was a Dowry left to me by my mother. Please, Young Master, be kind and grant me this convenience."
