261: Chapter 261: Another Version of the Story
The woman in the back seat did not speak.
She was draped in oversized clothing, with a hat covering her entire head.
She sat with her head bowed, as if she were asleep.
The young man from earlier swallowed hard and said in a low voice, "I, I think it was six years ago."
Everyone looked up at the old man and asked the same question: "Then when was the female college student you mentioned trafficked?"
"Si, six years ago."
The old man's expression seemed somewhat stiff, his gaze fixed intently on the woman in the back seat.
Everyone present instantly broke out in a cold sweat.
As if unwilling to give up, they continued to ask, "Then, where was she slashed to death?"
The old man took a deep breath, as if remembering something, and replied in a deep voice, "Her face. She was slashed in the face with a butcher knife. With one strike, her brains came out, and red and white matter smeared all over her face!"
Everyone gasped, cold sweat running down their backs, trembling with fear.
The assistant, with a sobbing tone, looked at the director, "Director, i, it seems like everything matches up. What do we do..."
The director was also terrified.
Trembling, he turned his head to look at the woman.
At this moment, the woman seemed to be awakened by the noise and finally raised her head slowly.
Beneath that oversized hat was a small, bloodless face.
Her hair blocked one eye, just revealing the side covered in scars.
Her eyes stared straight at the director.
As their gazes met, she stiffly pulled up the corners of her mouth, revealing an eerie smile.
It was too, too creepy!
Seeing this scene, the blood in the bodies of those in the car seemed to freeze.
Their minds went blank, and they couldn't say a single word.
The woman slowly turned her head and looked at the old man in the front.
The old man also saw the woman; his expression changed drastically, and his eyes were filled with fear.
Instinctively, he took two steps back, sat down on the ground, then quickly scrambled up and shouted at the driver beside him, "Stop the car, stop the car quickly! I want to get off!"
The driver was somewhat impatient.
However, driving on this mountain road in the rain was already a dangerous task.
If this old man kept causing a scene beside him, something might really go wrong.
With no other choice, he had to slam on the brakes and open the front door.
The old man quickly grabbed the Yellow Weasel from the ground, stuffed it back into the snakeskin bag, and then ran off the car, trembling.
After the old man left, the car continued on its way.
After a while, the woman in the back seat suddenly spoke.
She tilted her head and asked with a puzzled expression, "Why did you stop rehearsing your play? I still haven't figured out what plot you were acting out!"
Rehearsing... a play?
Everyone looked at each other, seeing confusion in each other's eyes.
After these successive shocks, everyone was completely bewildered.
The woman's small face wore an innocent expression, "Weren't you rehearsing just now? I saw you talking to yourselves at thin air for a long time."
"..."
Instantly, there was silence.
The air seemed to stagnate for a moment.
Everyone's brains seemed to be on the verge of crashing.
They had clearly been talking to an old man just now!
Did this woman not see him?
Seeing everyone silent, the woman seemed to realize something and quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I've been trafficked for so many years and haven't had access to mobile phones or TV, so I don't know how modern TV dramas are filmed. Maybe, maybe I misunderstood..."
But how could such an explanation dispel the doubts in everyone's hearts?
The director was silent for a moment, then mustered the courage to ask, "Um, excuse me for asking, but your facial scar is so large. After being slashed, didn't anyone take you to the Hospital? If you had gone to the Hospital, wouldn't you have been able to ask the doctors for help?"
The woman shook her head and gave a bitter smile, "No, those ignorant Villagers, how could they have kindly taken me to the Hospital? Besides, they thought I was dead at the time and threw me into the mountains... Later, I was rescued by an old man passing by."
"An old man?"
A flash of joy crossed the director's eyes.
If this woman had been rescued back then, then everything would make sense.
It might just be a misunderstanding!
The woman nodded, "Yes, that old man's ancestors were monkey performers, and he knew a little traditional Chinese medicine, but..."
At this point, a flash of pain crossed her eyes, "I originally thought that old man was a good person, but I didn't expect him to be worse than the previous old bachelor! He actually locked me in a cage with a Yellow Weasel and tamed me like a beast! It was only after many years that I was let out."
The woman spoke calmly, as if she hadn't noticed the changing expressions of the people around her.
Suddenly, a sinister smile appeared on her face.
"Fortunately, they are both dead now!"
"Just a few days ago, I saw with my own eyes that Yellow Weasel knock over the candle holder while the old man was sleeping. I could have saved him, but I didn't! I even kindly closed the door for them."
"That old man and his little beast were both burned to death! I finally had the chance to escape."
"I still have to thank you. I escaped in the mountains for several days and thought I would die there. I didn't expect to meet you, and you saved my life."
"..."
In the car, there was another deathly silence.
According to the woman, the old man and the Yellow Weasel had both been burned to death.
Then, what was it that they had seen earlier?
Everyone felt like their heads were going to explode.
They really had no way to judge who was telling the truth!
Who exactly was the ghost!
My scalp is so itchy, it feels like my brain is starting to grow...
