145: The first wave of beasts

Although these soldiers had already been gathered, it didn't mean they weren't panicking.

After all, they had completely disbelieved in the existence of a Yao Beast tide before.

However, under the command of the generals, after only a brief panic, they quickly returned to normal.

Generally speaking, for the first wave of a Yao Beast tide, the opposing side wouldn't send out complete cannon fodder.

Instead, they would dispatch monsters of moderate strength from the Yao Beast tide, roughly around Rank 30.

However, it was impossible to clearly see their leader at a glance, as their leader was commanding from far behind.

The city wall's gate suddenly opened, and soldiers walked out one by one.

The young general who had been mocking earlier had now shut his mouth, his face instantly turning pale.

This was also his first time seeing a Yao Beast tide, and upon seeing the overwhelming number of monsters, his heart was filled only with terror.

Although he stood still, his legs were constantly trembling, as if he would flee at any second.

He secretly swallowed a mouthful of saliva, his body involuntarily retreating.

"Zhou Fan, you lead the Shield Warriors of the First Guard and block the front first."

General Yang turned his head and looked at the young general.

Upon hearing this, Zhou Fan pointed to himself: "Me?"

"Is it me, then? Don't talk so much nonsense."

General Yang's tone was not good.

After all, on the battlefield, every second was extremely precious.

A delay of even one second could lead to irreparable losses.

The kind of general he needed was one who would carry out his orders without compromise, as soon as they were given.

"It's all Yao Beasts down there. How about we, the main general, make a strategic retreat first?"

Zhou Fan swallowed a mouthful of saliva and replied.

"Where's all this nonsense coming from? If you'll do it, then do it. If not, I'll send someone else."

General Yang's face darkened as he continued.

He had always disliked Zhou Fan to some extent.

Zhou Fan was a young master, though one with decent strength.

It was his Family members who had sent him here as a mid-level general to 'gild' him.

General Yang never said much when he idled around, at most he would just do a bit more work himself.

But now, with a great enemy before them, his thought of retreating from the battle was something General Yang absolutely could not accept.

"How about I do it?"

Just then, Li Changkong suddenly stepped forward.

Li Changkong could see that although General Yang immediately sent Zhou Fan out, he certainly wasn't sending him to his death.

There were so many magic crossbows behind them, plus those sent out were all Shield Warriors.

As long as they could withstand the first wave of attacks, there would definitely be subsequent troops to relieve them.

Zhou Fan seemed to have completely missed this point; he was just lowering his head, showing no intention of speaking.

General Yang was slightly stunned when he heard Li Changkong volunteer.

That Li Changkong was able to discover the Yao Beast tide in time had already made General Yang quite grateful to him.

But this didn't mean he believed Li Changkong truly had such strength.

In his opinion, Li Changkong was just a newcomer.

It would already be good if he could survive the Yao Beast tide, let alone make any contributions.

Most of the generals were performing their respective duties, and it was clearly too late for him to reassign generals now.

So, after a brief two-second thought, he still nodded.

"We'll go together."

Fire Rongrong, seeing Li Changkong volunteer, also eagerly spoke up.

The other teammates, who were not cowards to begin with, also volunteered one after another.

"Then let's go together."

Time was already running short, so Li Changkong did not try to persuade them.

General Yang, left with no choice, could only tell him to be careful.

Below the city, there was a troop of Shield Warriors; their average Rank was around 25.

If it was one-on-one, humans and Yao Beasts fighting, humans actually had a significant advantage.

A Rank 25 Shield Warrior was much stronger than these Rank 30 monsters.

Most of the monsters in the first wave of attack were Desert Yellow Scorpions, similar to those Li Changkong had encountered before.

These scorpions were burly, but their attack methods were relatively simple; besides biting, they would sting with the poisonous stinger on their back.

These Shield Warriors were somewhat confused to see that their commanders were a few students.

But since the main general had already given the order, they naturally did not resist much.

The city gate opened with a roar under General Yang's command, and that troop of Shield Warriors, holding giant shields, charged forward.

Li Changkong, from behind, loudly directed them, acting as the eyes of this army.

This Shield Warrior troop also had several hundred people; their current task was to withstand the first wave of attacks from those scorpions.

This would buy the magic crossbows behind them some aiming time.

In addition, there were several more waves of Shield Warriors following behind them, ready to relieve them at any time.

Li Changkong also noticed at this moment that General Yang truly possessed the talent for leading soldiers.

Although these soldiers were extremely panicked at first, they quickly returned to their usual state.

That was certainly because they had trained extensively in peacetime, which allowed them to enter the state so quickly.

The monsters were all enveloped in a layer of white aura; with the blessing of the white aura, their speed was nearly doubled compared to normal.

Just as the entire Shield Warrior Formation was formed, the Desert Yellow Scorpions rushed to the front.

They raised their tails high and stabbed at the shields.

"Fanatic Aura."

Li Changkong raised a staff and cast a buff on everyone in front of him.

This Fanatic Aura was itself a group-wide buff skill, and he had already leveled it up to around Rank 8.

It could cover hundreds of people at once and increase all their attributes by 10%.

Although 10% seemed small, if converted to Rank, it was equivalent to each person gaining about five Ranks.

"This guy, is he a Priest?"

On the city wall, General Yang was a bit confused.

According to the previous information, this young man should be a combat profession.

However, he didn't think too much about it; getting a buff was a good thing anyway.

Rumble!

In just a moment, the Desert Yellow Scorpions had already collided with the Shield Warriors.

"Hoo-hah!"

A synchronized shout came from the mouths of the Shield Warriors.

The charging Desert Yellow Scorpions were easily pushed back, sent flying several meters away.
