Chapter 132 Can't Summon Anything
District D, Building 7, first floor.
Inside the room.
Three men were blocking the doorway.
The one leading them, sporting a crew cut, was called Ma Chuan, an A-rank defense Talent.
His arms were covered in bulging muscles; he wore a black tank top and carried an iron pipe in his hand.
"Sister Lin, right? B-rank strength, you're actually pretty good at fighting."
The "Sister Lin" he referred to was a young woman standing at the very front.
She had several wounds on her body, and her clothes were torn in several places, but she was still standing.
She held a Tang dao with both hands, the tip pointed at the doorway.
"I said, no."
Her voice was hoarse but steady.
"No one is going to take Xiaoyu away, no one..."
Ma Chuan laughed and tapped the floor with his iron pipe, making a loud thumping sound.
"Are you guys not clear on the situation?"
He took a step forward.
Sister Lin took a step back, the tip of her blade pressed against his chest.
Ma Chuan glanced down at the blade tip, not dodging at all.
"Who's the boss of District D? You guys know better than anyone, right?"
"The fact that you people from the Film Academy are still alive and squatting in District D, instead of being sent to a trash heap like District E, is just because Brother Tang is in a good mood and can't be bothered to argue with you."
He reached out, pinched the blade with two fingers, and flicked it aside.
Sister Lin stumbled, and she almost lost her grip on the sword.
"Besides, you don't dare to kill anyone."
Ma Chuan stared at her, his eyes full of mockery.
"You've been fighting for so long, you're just taking a beating. So, take that sword far away."
He gave her a hard shove!
Sister Lin fell backward, sword and all!
She slammed into the wall and let out a muffled groan!
"I really don't know what you guys are thinking. You clearly have a Rice Awakened, yet you're guarding her so tightly?"
Ma Chuan hoisted the iron pipe onto his shoulder, his tone impatient.
"Brother Tang just loves eating rice! Inviting her into our Vehicle isn't some heinous crime!"
Sister Lin propped herself up against the wall and raised her sword again...
But her hands were shaking.
She truly didn't dare to kill.
The Eye of Peace hung high; to kill is to be killed.
But she wouldn't allow it.
She wouldn't allow anyone to take Xiaoyu away from her.
"I said... no..."
Her voice lacked strength, but she was still holding on.
Ma Chuan sighed and looked back at the two men behind him.
The tall, thin one and the big one immediately stepped forward.
One grabbed Sister Lin's wrist that was holding the sword and twisted it hard.
Sister Lin screamed, the Tang dao slipped from her hand and fell to the ground.
The big guy kicked the sword away, grabbed her hair, and pressed her against the wall.
"Behave!"
Ma Chuan walked up to her and patted her face, making loud slapping sounds.
"Still trying to act tough?"
Sister Lin glared at him, wishing she could kill him with her gaze.
But Ma Chuan didn't care at all.
Sometimes, he liked the apocalypse; he liked this feeling of being in control of everything.
"Fine, I'll let you keep being stubborn."
He waved his hand, and the big guy pressed Sister Lin to the ground, pinning her back with his knee.
Sister Lin struggled twice, only to be slapped across the face.
Ma Chuan turned around; a weak voice came from the corner.
"Can't... take her away..."
It was a boy, lying on the ground, his face buried in the dirt.
Liu Lei.
From start to finish, no one had noticed him.
He lay there, his hand still reaching forward, wanting to grab something, but he couldn't grab anything.
Ma Chuan walked over and looked down at him.
"Oh, there's still one crawling here. Almost forgot about you."
"When Xiao Liu crippled your leg back then, he was sanctioned by the Eye of Peace."
He poked Liu Lei's head with the iron pipe.
Liu Lei let out a muffled groan, his face shoved to the side, but he stubbornly turned it back.
"No... can't..."
Ma Chuan snorted with laughter. "You're fucked up like this, and you're still being stubborn?"
He squatted down and leaned in close to Liu Lei. "You say no, so it's a no? Who the hell do you think you are?"
Liu Lei glared at him; his eye sockets were bruised and swollen shut, but his eyes were filled with hatred.
Ma Chuan stood up and stepped on his hand.
"Ah—!"
Liu Lei screamed and curled into a ball.
Ma Chuan stomped his foot, listening to the screams, smiling happily.
"Trash is just trash."
"If it weren't for the Eye of Peace protecting you, you would have died eight times over."
He pulled back his foot and turned to walk towards the corner.
A girl was huddled there.
Lu Xiaoyu.
She was huddled in the innermost corner, trembling all over. She held a small cloth bundle tightly in her arms.
Her small oval face had skin so white it was almost transparent.
Her eyes were large and round, currently filled with tears, her eyelashes trembling, tears swirling in her eyes.
Her nose was red, her lips pressed tightly together, trying desperately not to cry out loud.
She wore a pale pink hoodie that was so dirty its color was unrecognizable, with a tear in the cuff. Below that were light-colored sweatpants, with a hole worn through at the knee.
Ma Chuan walked up to her and squatted down.
Looking at her.
"Hey."
Lu Xiaoyu shuddered, shrinking even tighter into herself.
Ma Chuan reached out, pinched her chin, and lifted her face up.
That face was covered in tear stains.
"Do you really have to watch your two teammates die in front of you before you'll say a word?"
Lu Xiaoyu's tears flowed even harder.
She shook her head desperately, wanting to speak, but only tiny whimpers came from her throat.
"I... I..."
Her voice was as small as a mosquito's, so soft it made one's heart tremble.
Ma Chuan leaned in close to her.
"You what?"
Lu Xiaoyu began to sob, "Please... don't... don't hurt them..."
Ma Chuan laughed.
"Not hurt them? Sure."
He let go and stood up. "Then you come with me."
Lu Xiaoyu was stunned.
She looked at Sister Lin, then at Liu Lei.
Sister Lin was pinned to the ground, her face pressed against the floor, but she was still shouting, "Xiaoyu... don't agree..."
Liu Lei lay on the ground, still muttering, "No... can't..."
Lu Xiaoyu lowered her head, buried her face in her knees, her shoulders heaving.
After several seconds.
She finally raised her head.
Looking at Ma Chuan.
Tears were still flowing, but she no longer shied away.
"I... I'll go with you..."
Her voice was so quiet it was almost inaudible.
Ma Chuan nodded then. "Wouldn't it have been easier if you'd just done that earlier?"
He grabbed Lu Xiaoyu's arm and dragged her out from the corner.
Lu Xiaoyu stumbled twice, nearly falling.
The cloth bundle in her arms fell to the ground, and white rice spilled everywhere again.
"Forget about that."
"Hurry up and come back with me; Brother Tang wants to see you."
Lu Xiaoyu looked back, at the rice on the ground, at Sister Lin, at Liu Lei.
Her tears couldn't stop flowing.
A broken sedan was their Vehicle.
There were originally four people, but later one died, leaving only the three of them.
Sister Lin always saved the best for her.
Liu Lei got beaten up every time, but he would still stand in front of her.
Just like an older brother and sister.
And her?
Because of her Talent, she had caused trouble after all...
She felt she was too weak.
She could only summon rice; other than that, she couldn't summon anything.
