Chapter 340 Five Tracking Cards

The group moved forward along the sidewalk.

After walking for about seven or eight minutes, the smell in the air changed.

First, a burnt aroma of frying oil wafted over, followed immediately by a cacophony of human voices—the rising and falling shouts and haggling sounds.

Turning the corner, an entire street was lined with various stalls on both sides.

Someone was frying sizzling, oily pancakes on an iron plate, the dough flipping with a loud clatter against the spatula; someone was hanging a row of dark, air-dried meat strips on a simple wooden rack, with a cardboard sign reading "30 units of Wood for one"; an elderly woman with gray hair had several baskets of deep red fruits in front of her, with a sign standing on the rim: Wild Jujubes.

Beside her, a middle-aged man wearing a straw hat had several hand-sharpened kitchen knives lined up, shouting without even raising his head: "Take a look for yourselves, they've been sharpened—"

Li Mengyao couldn't help but slow her pace: "This is too lively..."

Yang Kexin walked beside her, her eyes shining, "However, it's much more expensive than in the trading chat..."

Zhang Wanyue smiled: "This is just like online shopping versus physical stores. With online shopping, you can only see pictures, but here, as long as you have it in your hands, are you afraid of being scammed?"

"Come, come! Freshly cooked buckwheat pancakes!"

"Buying iron blocks, buying Parts!"

"Wood carvings! Handmade Wood carvings! Look at this rabbit! Look at the patterns!"

The shouting came from all directions.

Wang Mengmeng, however, was completely unable to walk any further.

This sense of bustle and window-shopping from before the apocalypse was so nostalgic.

She stopped in front of the stall selling Wood carvings, staring at a small rabbit the size of a palm.

"Brother Yu, this one—five units of Wood! So cheap!"

"Where will you put it after you buy it?"

"In the car! Just place it on the windshield! It adds so much life to it!"

"...Suit yourselves. Each of you has a quota of 1,000 units. Of course, this doesn't include Energy Cores."

Chen Yu casually promised the women a large sum.

"Yay, yay, yay!"

The women were immediately happy!

After all, the joy of shopping is in buying, not in loving something you can't have!

Zhang Wanyue passed by the elderly woman's stall selling wild jujubes and paused.

She squatted down to look at the fruits in the basket, picked one up, and squeezed it: "What is this?"

"Wild jujubes, produced by my own Talent. They're sweet."

The elderly woman smiled and handed one over, "Try it, it's free."

Zhang Wanyue took it and took a bite, squinting from the sourness: "...I'll take two jin."

"Alright!"

Lu Xiaoyu was drawn in by the aroma of the pancake stall: "Boss, your Talent is great! It's actually pancakes!"

"Little girl, you have a good eye! My Talent has fed who knows how many people in this apocalypse; it's much better than all that fighting and killing!"

"I... I think so too..."

...

...

The group continued to walk forward for a few dozen meters, and the density of the market continued to rise.

The stalls on both sides were set up closer and closer together, and then the road ahead was blocked.

There were three layers inside and three layers outside, with at least twenty people gathered around.

Some were standing on tiptoe, some were pushing forward, and others on the periphery were standing on tiptoe and asking the people next to them:

"What's going on? What are they selling? Why are so many people gathered around?"

"I don't know, but a lot of people are making offers!"

"Then it must be a treasure! Move aside, let me take a look!"

Wang Mengmeng's curiosity was immediately ignited, and she pulled Deng Yuxin toward the crowd.

She didn't squeeze in, but by standing on tiptoe, she could see a corner of the stall through the gaps in the crowd.

A dark gray cloth was spread on the ground, and in the center of the cloth lay five cards.

The stall owner was a Man with the Baseball Cap, revealing only a portion of his jaw. In front of him was a piece of cardboard with two lines of crookedly written words: Five tracking cards, only accepting barter, serious inquiries only.

"800 units of Wood, plus 500 iron blocks."

A young man in a gray jacket squatted down, "I just want to trade for one."

The stall owner didn't even lift his eyelids and shook his head.

The man in the gray jacket stood up and was pushed aside by the crowd.

Immediately after, someone else squatted down—a woman in blue work clothes who looked to be in her early thirties, clutching a dagger in her hand.

"I have an item here; its effect is that it reduces slippage when cutting things, suitable for slaughter and material processing. I'll trade for one tracking card."

The stall owner glanced at the dagger and then shook his head again.

"Sorry, I don't intend to sell them individually."

The woman stood up helplessly, shook her head, and left the stall.

Everyone could understand; selling them together offered a chance to trade for a higher-level item.

Outside the crowd, Wang Mengmeng muttered: "Brother Yu, that stall owner can take out five tracking cards; he must have some treasure. Can't we just rob him?"

Chen Yu glanced at her, "Go try it, apply for that stall."

Beside them was an empty stall marked with grids, but no one was there yet.

"Huh? Now?"

"Try it."

Although Wang Mengmeng was confused, she obediently walked over and touched the side of the stall. Ripples spread, the panel lit up, and a line of text popped up:

[Stall Application · Currently Empty · View Rental Agreement?]

[Yes]

The panel suddenly expanded to a long page of text, densely packed.

"..."

Wang Mengmeng exclaimed: "There are too many rules..."

Chen Yu nodded: "Otherwise, why do you think everyone dares to set up a stall here?"

Zhang Wanyue also tried it, then said: "Detailed Regulations for Stall Management in the Core Area of New Capital City · Article 7... Within a radius of two meters of the stall area, it is under strict supervision by the Eye of Peace. Any active attack behavior will be regarded as violating market order."

Wang Mengmeng slowly retreated to Chen Yu's side and coughed: "...Um, Brother Yu, I think we should forget it. We are civilized people."

Chen Yu shook his head, "You wait here, I'm going to trade for the tracking cards."

As he spoke, Chen Yu forcefully pushed through the crowd; no one could hold their position, and they were all pushed aside.

"Why are you pushing?"

"Don't push—hey—"

"What's wrong with this guy!"

Chen Yu ignored their complaints and squeezed into the front row.

Back in the Global Slaughterhouse, he had killed a large group of SSS-level Awakened before finding two tracking cards.

And subsequently, in order to find Lin Yue, he had used one immediately.

In other words, Chen Yu only had one left, and to find Lin Yue, one was definitely not enough.

Right in front of him—a man in a camouflage vest pulled out two pale gold cards, his tone urgent: "Five cards, I want them all."

He placed those two golden body cards on the edge of the cloth, and the people around him gasped in unison.

"Two golden body cards to buy five tracking cards? Is he crazy?"

"If used properly, golden body cards can even deceive the Eye of Peace!"

"Those convoys, when fighting for territory, are desperate to hold onto them like their lives depend on it..."

"Look at his expression; it's like a piece of his flesh was cut off."

The camouflage man himself knew that trading two golden body cards for five tracking cards was an enormous loss, but he gritted his teeth and didn't back down.

"Trade! Or not trade!"
