36: Stay in camp
Karl finally decided to allow Fang Yun to stay at the Buckle Family Camp as a friend of Toke and Valentine, and also allowed him to participate in the Buckle Family's revenge against the "Nightwalker Settlement: Black Hand".
After dealing with Fang Yun's issue, Karl stated that he needed to carry out some preparation work before the revenge against the "Black Hand".
Then, Fang Yun, Toke, and Valentine were asked by Karl to leave his tent.
Watching Karl's retreating figure, Fang Yun mused to himself:
"Karl allowing me to stay at the camp, on one hand, might be because he thinks I'm not a problem, and on the other hand, it might be because it's easier to keep an eye on me if I'm under his nose."
Shrugging slightly, Fang Yun thought it didn't matter. Let them monitor him if they wanted, he wasn't a bad person anyway.
At least, for the Buckle Family, the current Fang Yun wasn't a bad person.
Although Fang Yun could stay now, a new problem needed to be solved.
Fang Yun turned his head and said to Toke and Valentine in a slightly helpless tone:
"Now I have a problem, where should I live?"
Hearing Fang Yun's words, Toke and Valentine exchanged glances.
Then, Toke scratched his head and asked tentatively:
"How about you stay in the same tent as me for now?"
Fang Yun rubbed his chin and rejected Toke's suggestion.
"Your family's camp should have spare tent building materials, right? Can I buy a spare tent with money?"
Hearing this, Toke pondered for a moment and replied:
"Hmm... there are indeed spare tents in the camp's supplies. However, I'm not sure if Karl will allow you to set up a tent yourself for living."
"After all, you're not considered a friend of the Buckle Family yet, but just a friend of me and Valentine. By convention, Karl wouldn't allow an 'outsider' to set up a private tent in the family camp."
"I'll ask for you."
Toke decided to pass the problem to Karl to solve, so he sent Karl the information about Fang Yun wanting to set up his own tent to live in.
After waiting for a while, Toke received Karl's reply.
"...I can allow Fang Yun to set up a tent for living. However, before Fang Yun leaves the family, tell him to remember to dismantle the tent first."
Toke relayed Karl's reply truthfully to Fang Yun.
Fang Yun smiled slightly.
"Thanks, Toke. Please tell Karl for me that I understand and won't forget."
"So, it's decided. I'm going to set up a tent of my own in the camp."
"Toke, Valentine. Between the two of you, whose tent has more open space nearby?"
Toke and Valentine exchanged glances, and then Valentine spoke first:
"There's more open space next to my tent."
Fang Yun nodded, deciding to set the tent's location next to Valentine's tent.
After making the decision, Fang Yun followed Valentine and found the person in charge of managing the Buckle Family Camp's supplies.
Toke said he didn't have any other urgent matters at the moment, so he followed Fang Yun and Valentine over, intending to help out when Fang Yun set up his tent later.
It seemed Karl had already informed the person in charge of supplies about Fang Yun coming to buy a tent.
Because, although Fang Yun was a new face, he directly handed the tent building materials to Fang Yun without asking many questions.
However, when handing the materials to Fang Yun, he observed Fang Yun with some curiosity, seemingly wanting to see what was special about this outsider who could set up his own tent in the camp.
A single-person tent wasn't expensive.
Fang Yun paid the material cost for the tent to the supply manager via a temporary data connection.
Then, Fang Yun picked up the box containing the materials with both hands and walked step by step to the tent's location under Valentine's guidance.
Valentine and Toke, seeing Fang Yun pick up the box of materials by himself at first, couldn't help but show surprised expressions.
But then they thought about it: Fang Yun's strength was so great, it was normal for him to have a highly powerful prosthetic body, so they both felt relieved.
While carrying the materials, Fang Yun began to think about his next steps.
"Anyway, I'm staying near Valentine now."
"This means, next, I should figure out how to increase Valentine's favorability."
"If I protect the people of the Buckle Family during the revenge operation against the 'Black Hand', will that increase Valentine's favorability? ...Worth a try."
"We're here. Let's set up the tent first."
After confirming the approximate location for setting up, Fang Yun, with the help of Valentine and Toke, systematically began to erect the tent.
Although it was a single-person tent, setting it up still took the three of them some effort.
Time went from 2 PM to 4:30 PM.
The sun, high in the sky, had long since begun to set, and the sky over the Badlands also grew somewhat dim.
Toke wiped the sweat from his forehead with his sleeve and let out a long breath.
"Phew. It's finally set up."
On the other side of the tent, Valentine and Fang Yun, who were still busy, couldn't help but complain upon seeing this.
"Toke, are you done over there? I still have some parts not finished here, come and help me quickly, I'm exhausted."
"Brother Toke, you should come help me first. Look at Fang Yun, he hasn't broken a sweat at all, but look at me, my entire back is drenched in sweat from exhaustion."
Hearing this, Toke looked up and saw that while Fang Yun had a pained expression on his face, he indeed hadn't broken a sweat.
'Fang Yun probably isn't very good at handling this kind of thing, which is why he's complaining so much. I should go help Valentine instead.'
Thinking this, Toke apologized to Fang Yun, then walked over to Valentine and began helping Valentine finish the remaining tasks.
Seeing this, Fang Yun could only sigh helplessly.
"Sigh. My data-based body doesn't sweat, can I be blamed for that? I'm not lying, I really do feel a bit tired."
"Never mind, I'll just keep working on my own."
The three of them worked diligently for about ten more minutes before finally completing the setup of Fang Yun's tent.
After installing the last part, Fang Yun put down the wrench and screwdriver in his hands, then straightened up and stretched with a big yawn.
"As expected, after finishing work, you need to stretch. It feels great."
After stretching, Fang Yun looked towards Toke and Valentine and saw that they had just finished as well.
Fang Yun quickly tidied up the tools, then took the toolbox over to Toke and Valentine.
"Valentine, Toke. How do you feel? Are you exhausted?"
Toke, like Fang Yun, first stretched his old back, and then replied to Fang Yun:
"Ah, I'm getting old, my body is worse each day."
"Back in the day, when I was young, setting up a mere single-person tent? I could finish it all by myself in one go without even breaking a sweat."
Valentine flexed his aching wrists, and hearing Toke bragging, immediately spoke up to debunk him:
"Oh, come on, Brother Toke. When you were young, could your stamina be as good as mine? Even I wouldn't dare say I could finish it by myself without even breaking a sweat. Stop bragging."
Toke, who was just about to start tidying up the tools, burst into laughter upon hearing Valentine's words.
"Hahaha. Oh no, my bragging's been found out."
At this moment, Fang Yun interjected:
"Valentine, Toke might not be bragging. What if he had natural divine strength when he was young?"
After speaking, Fang Yun himself couldn't help but laugh out loud.
After hearing what Fang Yun said, Valentine couldn't help but grin and start laughing heartily.
"Hahaha, natural divine strength? Who? Old Tok? Hahaha."
Toke also couldn't help but laugh heartily after hearing Fang Yun's teasing words.
For a moment, the three of them laughed harder and harder, even bending over with laughter.
Luckily, there weren't many people near Fang Yun's tent at the moment, otherwise, they would definitely have been mistaken for three giggling monkeys.
