14: Chapter 14 Family Discipline
The Yun Family estate was large, but the noise from outside was even louder, drawing everyone in the Yun Family to gather in the main hall.
Everyone was whispering to one another, their eyes filled with a hint of unease.
Suddenly, several servants ran in to deliver news.
"Master, a large crowd has gathered outside and is charging toward the Yun Family estate," one servant said.
"Master, they have Young Master Yun Qing's body with them. Young Master Yun Qing is dead!" another servant added.
"Master! The one leading them is that bastard, Yun Ming!" the last servant reported.
Hearing the continuous stream of news, the face of the Yun Family head, Yun Feng, grew increasingly dark.
A plump woman beside him burst into loud wailing upon hearing of Yun Qing's death, even throwing a tantrum and rolling on the ground; she was Yun Qing's mother, Wu Cuiyun.
"Family Head! You must seek justice for Qing'er! He was my only son! That godforsaken brat—I want him dead! I'll kill him to make him pay for my son's life!"
"Bastard! Does that boy think he can do whatever he wants just because he's joined an Immortal's sect?" Yun Feng grew angrier the more he thought about it. "Steward Wang, go! Tell that boy to come and kneel before us and apologize to his Second Aunt!"
Steward Wang replied, "Rest assured, Master. I will teach him a proper lesson."
"And who exactly are you planning to teach a lesson?"
A voice drifted in, and everyone looked toward its source. Outside the hall stood a graceful young man who looked like a banished Immortal. He held a sword in one hand, his head held high; though the tip of his blade was stained with blood, there wasn't a trace of malevolence about him.
Behind him was a dense crowd, and someone among them was even carrying Yun Qing's severed head.
The members of the Yun Family felt a chill run down their spines, but a question simultaneously flashed through their minds: who was this person?
"Ming'er!"
Only one voice, filled with pleasant surprise, recognized the person before them.
It was Yun Ming's mother, Qin Wan.
Qin Wan rushed out from the crowd in the corner of the Yun Family estate and threw her arms around Yun Ming.
"You really came back. I thought they were lying to me again. Is cultivating immortality tiring? You're able to eat your fill with the Immortal, right? You look sturdier than before, and taller too..." Qin Wan's tone and gaze were full of concern; though she rambled, her gentleness was clear.
Yun Ming looked down at his mother in this world. In his previous life, he had been an orphan and had never experienced such affection.
Like a poor man suddenly becoming rich, he felt a bit awkward.
But looking at his mother—thin and dark-skinned, wearing the coarsest fabric covered in patches, her hands calloused, her hair white, and her face lined with wrinkles...
He had thought that since he had gone to cultivate immortality, the Family would have at least improved his mother's living conditions. It seemed he had thought too highly of the Yun Family.
Just as he was about to lose his temper, Yun Feng beat him to it.
"Yun Ming! Get over here right now! Are you trying to infuriate me to death?!"
Yun Ming's gaze turned cold, and his sword glinted chillingly. However, Qin Wan pulled him back and whispered, "Ming'er, go admit your mistake to your Eldest Uncle. You're an Immortal cultivator now; they won't truly punish you."
Seeing Yun Ming remain unmoved, Wu Cuiyun pointed directly at his nose and cursed, "You little bastard! And you, you little tramp, what kind of son have you raised? He killed my son! I want his life in exchange!"
"Second Sister-in-law, Ming'er wouldn't kill anyone, let alone his own younger brother. There must be a misunderstanding," Qin Wan said, shielding Yun Ming behind her and trying her best to explain.
"I killed him. Say another word and I'll kill you too," Yun Ming said in a frigid tone, bluntly admitting that he was the one who killed Yun Qing.
He didn't care in the slightest. After all, he had come today to sever ties with the Yun Family. If anyone provoked him, he wouldn't mind settling old scores.
Qin Wan gave him a hard tug. "Ming'er, what are you saying? Quickly, apologize to your Second Aunt."
Yun Ming looked down at Qin Wan and, after a brief silence, asked softly, "Mother, have you ever been happy during all these years in the Yun Family?"
Qin Wan intended to give a casual reply, but seeing Yun Ming's serious gaze, a wave of bitterness surged in her heart. She was only an ordinary person; after enduring so much humiliation over the years, no one would be happy.
Seeing Qin Wan hesitate, Yun Ming said, "Then today, let's leave the Yun Family, shall we?"
Yun Ming's tone wasn't one of inquiry or negotiation; regardless of whether Qin Wan agreed, he was going to take her away.
But Qin Wan, who had been weak her whole life, seemed to suddenly become a different person. She grew confident and strong, straightening her back as she said firmly to Yun Ming, "Let's go!"
"Who said you could leave!" A piercing voice rang out as Yun Feng pointed at the two and cursed, "You ungrateful wretches! Beasts! Who gave you food and drink? Who sent you to seek the Dao and cultivate immortality? Now that you've returned, not only are you ungrateful, but you've also killed your own clansman and brother, and now you want to betray the Family? Who gave you such audacity!"
"Men! Carry out the Family punishment!" With a wave of Yun Feng's hand, over a dozen servants armed to the teeth rushed out, clad in Refined Iron armor and wielding long sabers that gleamed coldly.
Yun Ming raised an eyebrow. "You call this 'Family punishment'? That's quite a heavy punishment."
Yun Feng gave a cold smile. "Naturally, such a heavy punishment wouldn't be used on others, but for you two, it's still too light. Attack!"
The dozen or so men lunged forward, causing the ground to tremble slightly.
Qin Wan hugged Yun Ming tightly in fear, trying to shield him, but Yun Ming simply raised his sword slightly to parry.
"Clang!!"
The long saber that reached him first snapped in half as if it were made of wood.
Before the burly man holding the saber could react, Yun Ming's sword had already swept across his throat. A large head flew into the air, and blood sprayed everywhere like a fountain, yet not a single drop touched Yun Ming or his mother.
The Refined Iron neck guard was no sturdier than a sheet of paper to Yun Ming.
Yun Ming began to move, leading Qin Wan through the crowd. He wove effortlessly through the flashes of blades; every simple swing of his sword claimed a life.
In the blink of an eye, all dozen or so men lay dead by Yun Ming's sword.
The members of the Yun Family were now scared out of their wits; some even vomited at the sight of the gruesome scene.
"Yun Ming, do you really want to oppose the Yun Family? Don't forget, you are also a part of this Family!" Yun Feng said through gritted teeth, thinking to himself that if only the Second and Third brothers were here, their martial arts prowess would surely have suppressed this bastard.
"Oh? Now you remember I'm a part of the Yun Family? Why didn't you say that when I was being humiliated? Why didn't you say that when my mother and I were freezing and starving? Now you claim I'm part of the Family!" Yun Ming shouted angrily.
"After all, you have the Yun Family blood flowing through you."
"Wow, what a refreshing and refined excuse. Do you think I give a damn?" Yun Ming spat.
Yun Ming's gaze grew colder, and Yun Feng's heart grew heavier. He knew that if he didn't do something, the Yun Family estate would be bathed in blood today.
Just as the tension reached a breaking point, an aged voice suddenly rang out.
"Enough. Say no more."
Everyone looked over together; it was actually the Old Master of the Yun Family—Yun Feng's father and Yun Ming's grandfather.
