140: Who is suing me in this hall?

Swish—

The waiter silently shuffled the cards, while the three people around the round table wore varied expressions.

Boss William sat in his chair with his legs crossed. Though he smiled, his eyes were cold and chilling.

Xiao Jiao, seeing the large group of henchmen and machine guns behind Boss William, was restless.

Cheng Zhen's gaze was unfocused, as if he was lost in thought or simply spacing out.

“Then, please allow me to introduce the rules of the game to both of you.”

The waiter smiled and began, “This is a dice-rolling game, and also a game of luck.”

“This is a full deck of playing cards, with numbers from 1 (Ace) to 13 (King). I will randomly draw one card from the deck and place it face down on the table.”

“The game participants need to guess the number of this card, but not by speaking, but by rolling dice.”

“Participants can roll any number of dice, throwing them in front of themselves. If they are not satisfied with the number rolled, they can choose to re-roll, but only once per round.”

“After the dice points are confirmed, I will reveal the card. The person whose sum of dice points is closest to the card's number wins, and the winner can take the other players' dice.”

“If a Big Joker is revealed, the person with the highest dice sum wins. If a Little Joker is revealed, the person with the lowest dice sum wins.”

“If the numbers are the same, it is considered a draw, no count is made, and the next round of the game begins.”

“Each person initially holds six dice, and one gold chip can be exchanged for one die. When all the gold chips and dice in hand are lost, the participant will have to ‘leave the table’.”

Understood, losing everything = death.

“Do the two guests have any questions?” the waiter asked.

“Roll the dice first, then reveal the card? Are we supposed to roll and guess blindly?” Cheng Zhen asked.

The waiter nodded and replied, “Yes, guest. That's why it's a game of luck.”

A game of luck?

Cheng Zhen chuckled. Trusting a dealer not to cheat is like trusting a 50/50 chance without a cheat. He lowered his eyes in thought. Perhaps the previous games made the NPCs realize something? They were guarding against Cheng Zhen secretly changing the dice points, so they chose to roll the dice publicly…

No matter, when soldiers come, we will block them; when water comes, we will cover it with earth!

The rules of the new game were not complicated, and Cheng Zhen and Xiao Jiao stopped asking questions, nodding in agreement to start.

Then, they saw Boss William also bring over a pile of gold chips.

Seeing their uncertain and surprised gazes, Boss William chuckled and explained, “As the tavern owner, it’s perfectly reasonable for me to have many gold chips, isn't it?”

“But for fairness, I'll only bring thirty gold chips into the game, how about that?”

Fair my foot, fair!

Cheng Zhen, who had won only twenty-something gold chips from all the NPCs, genuinely felt that those few NPCs had cursed too soon; this was the true shamelessness.

Xiao Jiao looked at the two men's double-digit chips, then at his own two chips, feeling the disparity of the world…

Under everyone's 'no objections', the final game began.

The waiter drew a card and pushed it to the center of the table: “Please choose the dice you want to roll. In ten seconds, reveal them together.”

Boss William glanced at the back of the card, then placed his hand over a pile of dice. Cheng Zhen and Xiao Jiao couldn't see how many dice he took.

Cheng Zhen thought for a moment. Even if he could guess the number correctly, he might not be able to roll a similar sum, so he could start by rolling a few to test the waters.

As for Xiao Jiao…

If he rolled too many, he'd probably be out in two rounds. It was better to let him go slowly, one at a time.

“3, 2, 1, reveal!”

The waiter ended the countdown, and the three spread their palms, revealing their dice.

Boss William and Cheng Zhen both chose two dice, while Xiao Jiao chose one die.

Then, they rolled the dice to see the points.

Boss William rolled 5+4, a total of 9 points.

Cheng Zhen rolled 3+3, a total of 6 points.

Xiao Jiao rolled a 2.

“Would you like to re-roll?” the waiter asked.

Cheng Zhen had only intended to test the waters initially. This number was in the middle, which was acceptable, so he did not re-roll.

Xiao Jiao, however, chose to re-roll because his points were too low to win.

Then he rolled a 1.

With the re-roll count at zero, the waiter ignored Xiao Jiao's constipated expression and reached out to reveal the card.

“10. First round, Boss William wins.”

The waiter smiled, using a pusher to gather Cheng Zhen and Xiao Jiao's dice to Boss William's side.

“Good luck.”

Boss William snickered, letting his henchman light his cigar.

Cheng Zhen said no more, telling the waiter to start the next round.

The process was the same as before, except in the second round, everyone only chose one die.

They waved their hands and rolled the dice. Boss William got a 2, Cheng Zhen a 3, and Xiao Jiao a 6.

No one re-rolled, and the waiter revealed the card.

“Ha, I win again.”

Boss William looked at the card with an 'A' on it, smugly.

Then the third round began, Boss William won again, sweeping up Cheng Zhen and Xiao Jiao's dice.

Even a fool would know there was a problem.

Cheng Zhen wasn't surprised. After all, for a cheater, reading card backs and memorizing cards was simply too easy.

Boss William's dice also had issues. Judging by the dice's trajectory, they were likely weighted with lead or mercury, allowing him to roll the numbers he wanted.

Even if the numbers he rolled couldn't win, the shuffling waiter wasn't there for nothing. Drawing a desired card from the deck and replacing the one in hand was as easy as eating and drinking for a cheater.

However, Cheng Zhen did not expose Boss William like he had exposed No. 2 earlier. After all, in his territory, it would only lead to the farcical scene of 'Who dares to accuse this official in court?'

“Guest, if you only have this level of skill, you can't even compare to a post-meal snack.”

Boss William and the group of NPCs colluded, their faces showing self-satisfaction.

“Heh…”

Cheng Zhen picked up a die, chuckling softly.

“Since Boss William says so, the main course will arrive very soon. I hope you all don't suddenly get stuffed to death!”
