327: war

Just as Mu Changan finished speaking, a sharp sound of breaking wind echoed through the air.

A loud buzzing filled the ears!

Hearing this sound, Nan Qingyue's brow furrowed deeply. It seemed everything Mu Changan said was correct; they truly had been ambushed!

"No way, Senior... are we really being ambushed?" Nan Qingyue's brow remained tightly knit, her heart filled with unease.

Nan Qingyue had originally thought they could escape through the South City Gate, but to her surprise, they had actually been played.

Now, the South City Gate was crawling with ambushes. It would be quite difficult for Mu Changan, Nan Qingyue, and their group to escape from here.

"Prepare for battle!" Mu Changan said with a grim expression, a cold light flashing in his eyes.

Mu Changan did not dare to be negligent; he gripped his Sword tightly, ready to take action.

Nie Mingjue was even more confused. He poked his head out and scanned the surroundings, but he didn't see any enemy soldiers.

"Senior, aren't you being too careful? There shouldn't be any enemy soldiers here," Nie Mingjue said, taking a sharp breath, still unable to understand.

But at that very moment—

Bang!

Following a dull, heavy thud, an Arrow tore through the wind and pierced deep into the carriage.

The Arrow had grazed the top of Nie Mingjue's head. If it had been just an inch lower, it would have taken his life! It was truly a close call!

"Phew! Holy crap, they're playing for keeps!" Cold sweat broke out on Nie Mingjue's forehead. He took a sharp breath, feeling utterly helpless.

"What else did you think?" Mu Changan looked back and shot Nie Mingjue a look of annoyance. "These Mulan Manor disciples are truly ruthless, setting an ambush right here at the South City Gate."

"It makes people believe the South City Gate is the way to safety, but in the end, it becomes their burial ground!"

"To kill the heart as well as the body... Mulan Manor is so cruel!"

Mu Changan clenched his fists tightly, a cold glint exploding in his eyes.

Mu Changan currently had no positive impression of Mulan Manor. Furthermore, Mulan Manor had killed countless people in their quest to become number one in the world.

In Mu Changan's eyes, the people of Mulan Manor were demons who would use any means to achieve their goals. It was truly infuriating.

"Don't just stand there, get out of the carriage!" After leaving these words, Mu Changan was the first to step down.

Holding his Sword, Mu Changan stood in front of the carriage. He scanned the area but could not immediately locate the positions of those lying in wait.

However, Mu Changan was certain of one thing: there were definitely archers. Otherwise, that Arrow wouldn't have hit the carriage.

But for an Arrow like that to hit the carriage directly, there was only one possibility.

The archers must be on high ground, and there was only one high vantage point here: the South City wall. It was highly likely that the ambushing Mulan Manor disciples were all up there.

Realizing this, a cold light flashed in Mu Changan's eyes as he looked up and stared intently at the South City wall.

"Senior, we're here." Nan Qingyue reacted quickly. After settling Li Changfeng, she drew her Sword, stepped off the carriage, and followed closely behind Mu Changan.

Although Nan Qingyue's strength was a bit lacking, she was still a combatant.

With so many Mulan Manor disciples present, Nan Qingyue could be of help.

As a Disciple of the Divine Sword Sect, wouldn't dealing with some Mulan Manor small fry be a piece of cake for her?

"Senior, I'm here too." Nie Mingjue's reaction was slightly slower. After a long moment, he finally stepped forward.

At this moment, Mu Changan was in the front, with Nie Mingjue and Nan Qingyue positioned to his left and right behind him.

The three of them stood before the carriage, using this formation to protect Li Changfeng inside.

"Fire!"

Someone shouted from atop the city wall.

Instantly, countless Arrows rained down from the wall, shooting toward the carriage.

Hearing the command, Mu Changan's pupils constricted. He had already guessed that the Mulan Manor disciples were on the South City Gate wall, but what he hadn't expected was the sheer number.

Judging by the density of the Arrows, there were likely thousands of Mulan Manor disciples on that wall!

"Careful! Protect the carriage!" Mu Changan shouted, a cold light bursting from his eyes.

Nie Mingjue and Nan Qingyue reacted swiftly, both retreating immediately. They knew that rather than fighting the Mulan Manor disciples head-on, it was better to focus on protecting the carriage.

In this way, they could ensure Young Master Li's safety.

"Understood, Senior," Nan Qingyue responded quickly. She leaped into the air and landed directly on top of the carriage.

With a grim face, Nan Qingyue showed no fear toward the Arrows. Instead, a surge of Battle Intent rose within her heart, all for the sake of protecting Young Master Li.

Nie Mingjue was not to be outdone. While Mu Changan charged forward, he stood before the carriage with his Sword, attempting to intercept all the incoming Arrows.

In the sky, the Arrows buzzed and glinted with cold light, a sight that would make anyone gasp in fear.

But there was no other way.

The Mulan Manor disciples had set their ambush early and held the high ground. In this situation, it would be difficult for Nie Mingjue and Nan Qingyue to break through.

Fortunately, they had a powerhouse with them: Mu Changan.

"Brats of Mulan Manor, you dare try to assassinate me?" Mu Changan stomped his foot hard. Before everyone's eyes, he leaped into the air and, in the blink of an eye, landed on the city wall.

Mu Changan swept his gaze across the area; Mulan Manor disciples were everywhere, numbering in the thousands.

However, Mu Changan was not afraid. His face was grim, and a cold light flashed in his eyes.

With a light flourish of his Sword, he cut down a Mulan Manor disciple in the blink of an eye.

The man fell heavily to the ground, eventually dying in a pool of blood.

"Who are you!"

"How dare you kill our Young Master!"

"Who are you!"

The fury of the Mulan Manor disciples was instantly ignited. They looked grim, gripping their Swords tightly.

The esteemed Third Young Master of Mulan Manor had actually been killed right before their eyes?

Moreover, the Third Young Master was a powerhouse of the Sixth Grade Realm. How could he be killed so easily?

If that were the case, just how much strength did the man before them possess? Someone who could easily assassinate a Sixth Grade Realm expert must have reached the Eighth Grade Realm, or perhaps even the ninth!

"Tingfeng Hall, Listening Wind Person Mu Changan." Mu Changan held his head high as he stood on the wall, looking down at the Mulan Manor disciples.

With a flick of his wrist, he shook the blood from his Sword.

At this moment, Mu Changan looked down at the man he had just killed.

Judging by the man's attire—a brocade robe, a feathered crown, and a gold-hilted Sword—he was quite the extravagant figure and clearly very wealthy.

It seemed the Mulan Manor disciples were telling the truth when they said Mu Changan had killed the Third Young Master of Mulan Manor.

"Hmph. Your Young Master's strength was too weak. Even if he hadn't died by my hand, he would have died by someone else's eventually," Mu Changan sneered, not caring about the matter at all.

In truth, Mu Changan had no love for Mulan Manor; he had even reached the point of loathing them.

There was a time when Mu Changan would kill any member of Mulan Manor on sight, if not for the Branch Master's order not to touch them.

And now, Mu Changan was once again hunting Mulan Manor disciples!

"Insolence! You kill our Young Master and still dare to say such things!"

"So what if you're from Tingfeng Hall?"

"Why is your Tingfeng Hall interfering in the affairs of our Mulan Manor!"

"Brothers, kill him and avenge the Young Master!"

The Mulan Manor disciples were loyal. They stepped forward, cold light flashing in their eyes as they glared at Mu Changan.

In the eyes of these Disciples, Mu Changan was a villain of the world who had to die. Only his death could avenge their Young Master and rid Mulan Manor of this menace.

At this moment, the anger in the hearts of the Mulan Manor disciples had overcome their fear.

For the Young Master of the great Mulan Manor to be killed right in front of them was a supreme humiliation for the Disciples!

The Mulan Manor disciples held their Swords, their expressions grim and eyes flashing with cold light. "Brothers, fight to the death! Kill!"

As soon as the words fell—

The Mulan Manor disciples charged forward together, their eyes fixed on Mu Changan in the distance.

In truth, Mu Changan didn't care about these people at all. With a turn, he instantly vanished into the midst of the Mulan Manor disciples.

Sword light flashed, bringing with it a spray of blood.

The Sword buzzed as Mu Changan cut down a Mulan Manor disciple with a simple swing.

And it was at this moment—

A cold light burst from Mu Changan's eyes as he advanced with his Sword, striking down again and again.

In the air, Arrows buzzed, flying toward the space between Nan Qingyue and Nie Mingjue.

"Good! You take the ones below, I'll take the ones above. We'll protect this carriage together." Nan Qingyue's face was grim as she gripped her Sword, a cold light flashing in her eyes.

Nan Qingyue had already made up her mind. She leaped into the air, swinging her Sword heavily, blow after blow, to intercept the Arrows.

A cold light flashed in Nan Qingyue's eyes. Her reactions were swift; she leaped into mid-air once more, swinging her Sword again.

In just an instant, Nan Qingyue had blocked most of the Arrows.

Meanwhile, Nie Mingjue swung his Sword, releasing Sword Qi that struck the Arrows in the air.

Bang!

With a loud boom, Nie Mingjue swung his Sword with all his might. The Sword Qi swept across half the sky, instantly shattering the Arrows.

"Qingyue, how was that? Look at my strike—not bad, right?" Nie Mingjue said with a proud look, stepping forward.

Nie Mingjue turned back to look at Nan Qingyue, showing off his results.
