130: Day 3 at Wanlv Lake
Having finished two pots of fish, the two men lay in the car contentedly. Gao Xiaofan leaned by the window, smoking, while Qiu Gu held his phone, interacting with the audience.
The rain had started up again outside, and there was no telling when it would finally end.
Listening to the echo of Qiu Gu's interactions inside the car, Gao Xiaofan smiled.
Life would only keep getting better, wouldn't it?
However, after a short while, Qiu Gu's voice grew quieter and quieter until he eventually stopped speaking altogether. Gao Xiaofan looked over curiously, only to see a look of dejection on Qiu Gu's face.
Gao Xiaofan took the phone from his hand. The words scrolling across the screen in the bullet chat made his heart skip a beat.
"Brother Gu, don't hang around with Brother Wo Zi every day, or you'll have to watch out for your wife running away~"
"Exactly, exactly~ Brother Gu should be married by now, right?~"
The fans' unwitting jokes made Qiu Gu's heart, which had finally begun to lighten recently, turn heavy once more.
Gao Xiaofan smiled and began to change the subject. After finding a chance to soothe the fans, he ended the livestream.
The two lay in the car in silence, staring blankly as the sound of dense raindrops drumming against the car body filled the interior.
After a long while, Gao Xiaofan asked,
"Brother Gu, where is your hometown?"
"Jiangcheng."
"Oh, the provincial capital of Ezhou, then~"
"Yeah~"
The car fell silent again. Gao Xiaofan scratched his cheek with his right hand, not knowing what else to say.
The night passed in silence as the two fell asleep.
"Holy crap, Xiaofan, get up! Dammit, it's flooded again!"
Qiu Gu's voice startled Gao Xiaofan awake.
With a look of terror, Gao Xiaofan bolted upright and looked outside, only then breathing a sigh of relief.
Dammit, that tone of voice was exactly the same as the night of the debris flow; it nearly scared Gao Xiaofan to death.
Fortunately, the water had only reached the wheel hubs.
Also, why did he have to use the word 'again'!
Putting on his flip-flops, Gao Xiaofan pushed open the car door and stepped into the water. When he turned his head to look around, he was dumbstruck.
Where was the road back? In the entire Wanlv Lake, except for a few small islands in the distance, only the small patch of ground where the car sat remained above the water's surface.
Did it really get flooded just from one night of rain???
Gao Xiaofan looked at Qiu Gu, his mouth hanging open, not knowing what to say.
Qiu Gu was also having a breakdown. Since they had come out, they hadn't visited many places, and it seemed like none of them were normal.
"Let's start the livestream first. At least we're safe for now. Maybe some fans will come to pick us up~"
Gao Xiaofan spoke dryly, then began to fiddle with the equipment.
"Brothers, I can't play anymore. We can't stay in this place; it flooded overnight."
Gao Xiaofan spoke helplessly as he watched the number of people in the livestream room skyrocket, panning the camera as he talked.
The livestream room immediately burst into laughter.
"Holy crap, I'm dying of laughter first thing in the morning~~~"
"As expected, Brother Wo Zi is either Creating Hype or on his way to Creating Hype. Good stuff, you deserve a reward~"
"Using a Wuling as groundbait??? Good heavens, ever since it started following you, that Wuling hasn't had a single good day!"
"This~ the new fans think it's a script, but only the old fans know that this is metaphysics~"
"I came here to learn how to fish? No, I came here to learn how to pull stunts~"
The bullet messages came one after another, and the number of people in the livestream room rarely surged to 200,000, with the momentum still rising. However, Gao Xiaofan was in no mood to pay attention to any of that now.
Qiu Gu had just told him that they should try wading back.
Gao Xiaofan also thought it made sense. He handed the Gimbal to Qiu Gu, and the two of them held hands as they began to walk back.
They both knew the way they had come; it was a straight road.
It was fine at first, with the water only reaching their ankles, but after a few steps, it covered their feet.
A few more steps, and it reached their calves.
After about thirty steps, the water had reached their waists.
Gao Xiaofan looked toward the livestream, still in the mood to interact.
"It's not a big deal. Brother Gu and I drove in on this very road; we're very familiar with it~"
Qiu Gu's walking speed in front also began to slow down; he could only manage a few steps a minute.
The two walked dozens more steps. Although they were much closer to the shore, the water had already reached their chests.
"Oh, holy crap, I think it's still okay. We should be able to make it ashore~"
Gao Xiaofan's voice carried into the livestream room; it was unclear if he was just trying to encourage himself.
Three minutes later.
"I can't do it, I can't do it. It's up to my neck. Holy crap, I don't know how to swim."
Feeling the water reach his neck, Gao Xiaofan hurriedly tugged at Qiu Gu's hand underwater and shouted.
He was a bit panicked now. He hadn't brought his fishing rod; what the hell would he do if he drowned?
The audience in the livestream room couldn't hold it in any longer when they heard Gao Xiaofan's cry.
"Oh, holy crap, I'm dying of laughter. I really can't hold it in~"
"Ten minutes ago it was 'not a big deal,' ten minutes later it's 'holy crap I can't swim.' Brother Wo Zi really knows how to slap his own face~"
"On TikTok livestreams, I only respect Brother Wo Zi. This guy is always keeping it real, and the 'real' one is always himself~"
Hearing Gao Xiaofan's words, Qiu Gu also nodded. He was walking in front, and the more he thought about it, the more something felt wrong.
Why the hell was he taking this risk? Why was he doing this stunt? Gao Xiaofan had so many fans; wouldn't it be easy to just get a boat to pick them up? It wasn't like they could actually drown.
Mainly, the water was also nearly at his neck, and there was still some distance to the shore. He didn't know if the water would be even deeper on the road ahead.
The two began to walk back.
Once they reached the car, Gao Xiaofan finally breathed a sigh of relief and took back the Gimbal from Qiu Gu.
"I can't take it anymore, I'm numb. Do any Brothers have any good ideas?~"
The bullet chat scrolled rapidly. Gao Xiaofan stared at the screen, watching with rapt attention.
He had been livestreaming for so long but had never seriously looked at the bullet chat. The main problem was that it moved too fast, making his head spin.
After watching for a while, just as Gao Xiaofan was preparing to call for rescue, a bullet message appeared.
Wo Zi Army - Shenxing Team - High-Grade Fishing Boat: Brother Wo Zi, don't worry, I've already set out. I'll be there to save you immediately!!!
Gao Xiaofan was overjoyed, but he felt that this 'Shenxing Team' sounded familiar, like he had seen it somewhere before.
While waiting, Gao Xiaofan mounted his phone on a tripod and began packing things up with Qiu Gu. They put the canopy and all the pots and pans into the car's trunk. Although the car couldn't move, they could still come back and drive it away once the weather cleared up~
If they didn't pack them away and they got blown away by the wind, they'd have to spend money to buy them again.
Thirty minutes later, a fishing boat cut through the water and sped toward them, looking elegant and cool.
Gao Xiaofan waved his hand excitedly. Qiu Gu also climbed into the driver's seat to check once more if the Wuling's handbrake was pulled tight. Once the fishing boat steadied itself, the two climbed aboard.
"Thank you, brother! If it weren't for you, we probably would have had to call for rescue!"
Gao Xiaofan gratefully gripped the hand of the dark-skinned Young man in front of him and shook it vigorously.
Qiu Gu stood behind them, holding the Gimbal and filming.
"It's nothing, Brother Wo Zi. We're all Brothers. Saying that makes you sound like a stranger~"
High-Grade Fishing Boat spoke nonchalantly, then climbed into the driver's seat, clenched his right fist, and gave a sudden wave.
"Shenxing Team, move out!"
Gao Xiaofan, who had just sat down, felt a jolt. What a familiar slogan!
