86: There is no fixed method for fishing.
A long-lost sensation traveled up from the rod.
Gao Xiaofan squatted on the ground, gripping the rods tightly, his heart leaping with joy.
"Grass Carp!"
Feeling the strength of the pull, Gao Xiaofan spoke with absolute certainty.
They say a Grass Carp has three main surges of power, and that saying was spot on; before long, the tension on the rod began to weaken.
Gao Xiaofan propped up the rods and slowly backed away, not giving the underwater Grass Carp any rest as he worked to force it to the surface.
"The two moments when you're most likely to lose a fish are when you first lift the rod and when you're trying to net it."
Gao Xiaofan wiped away some sweat while looking into the camera.
"As long as you endure that initial burst of power, the fish is basically secured. But you must never let the fish catch its breath. Many novice anglers manage to hold on during the initial surge, only to lose the fish while playing it, which is truly a pity."
"The reason is that beginners are so worried about losing the fish that they don't dare to use enough force to pull against it."
"When the fish recovers its strength in the water and suddenly lunges, the line snaps instantly."
The comments in the livestream room began to increase. Many people enjoy fishing for the sense of leisure, but as for how skilled they are, most actually aren't very good.
"Learned something new~"
"Finally caught one after so long, I feel relieved now~"
"So what is the correct procedure? Curious~"
"There is no fixed method in fishing, so there's no such thing as a 'correct procedure'~"
Gao Xiaofan picked up the landing net and, with quick eyes and hands, scooped it over the head of the Grass Carp near the shore, hauling it up in one go.
He joyfully pulled the Grass Carp out and grinned at the camera.
"This one is definitely 15 pounds~ Although it's not huge, it'll be more than enough for a feast for me and the cameraman, hahaha."
He tossed the Grass Carp into the fish box, washed his hands, and then picked up the pad to take a look.
"I just saw a viewer ask about the correct procedure, and another say there's no fixed method. Let me share my personal insight."
"Whenever you're fishing for large individuals, the first thing is to withstand that initial surge. As soon as you feel the tension on the rod ease, you have to lift the rod up. As long as it's comfortable for you to hold, it doesn't matter how high it goes. If you can't lift it higher, step back to keep the line taut and use that pulling force to bring the fish to the surface."
"Many novice anglers play a fish for ages—thirty minutes even—only for it to surface and, wow, look at that, it's only five pounds!"
"And you'll notice that once you net the fish, it's basically lost all its vitality. Even if you put it in the keepnet, it looks half-dead."
"That's because the fish keeps exerting force underwater. Once it rests, it gets its strength back and lunges again~"
The livestream room was instantly filled with laughter.
"The truth has been revealed~ Fish: I'm not a human, but you're a real dog~ You're literally 'walking' the fish~"
"Learned it. Although Brother Wo Zi makes sense, I'm just afraid to use force~"
Looking at the comments, Gao Xiaofan smiled.
"That's normal. After all, when you finally hook a big fish while wild fishing, you naturally want to be careful. Actually, the solution to this is simple."
The viewers in the livestream room had their curiosity piqued.
"Hurry up and tell us, what's the method!"
"Ooh~ Brother Wo Zi has learned how to leave us on a cliffhanger~"
Gao Xiaofan watched the comments scrolling rapidly on the pad, then looked up at the camera with a mischievous grin.
"Once you've caught a hundred-pound monster, you won't worry about these things anymore. You'll realize those several-dozen-pound fish are just small fry~ Then you can naturally use force with confidence."
As soon as he finished speaking, the livestream room exploded.
"Ah~ Damn it, he managed to show off again!"
"My dead memories just kicked me again. This guy is the man who once fished up a corpse~"
"Huh? Brother Wo Zi fished up a corpse??"
"To the person above, why do you think he's called Brother Wo Zi? After he caught it and the police came to take his statement, he wouldn't even go, saying he'd already baited the spot and couldn't bear to leave~"
"The new fans have no idea about Brother Wo Zi's past glory~~~~"
Gao Xiaofan felt a secret thrill as he looked at the comments. The feeling of successfully showing off was really not bad~
"Brother Wo Zi, stop fishing and chat with us~"
"Yeah, the fishing itself is already enviable, and then you go and show off~ Hurry up and chat with your 'fathers'~"
"Are you gonna chat or not? If not, we're unfollowing~"
Gao Xiaofan felt a bit of a headache looking at the comments. He simply adjusted his sitting position and spoke while holding the pad.
"Let's chat for a bit then. A fellow angler just said there's no fixed method in fishing. That's absolutely correct, but that phrase mainly refers to different waters, environments, and target fish."
"Let's talk about some basic common sense. Many anglers don't understand why the line always snaps when they lift the rod. Many think it's because the line set is too small."
"The cause of a snapped line is a 'tug-of-war.' You're pulling, the fish is pulling, and the line naturally snaps~"
"Avoiding this is actually simple, there are two ways. First, don't cast a full line. If you're using a long cast, then pull back a bit while sinking the line so that the line from the float to the rod tip is slightly slack."
"Second, don't set the float too dull. Some anglers, especially when fishing for Black Carp, fish dull. The fish has already swallowed the hook and bolted before the float even moves. At that point, the line is already taut."
"There's no fixed method in fishing, no fixed setting for the float, and no universal bait~"
After Gao Xiaofan finished speaking, he lost interest in fishing for the moment and started cleaning the Grass Carp.
The viewers in the livestream room initially thought Gao Xiaofan's words made sense, but when they heard the last part, they started arguing again.
"If I hadn't followed you before, I would've almost been fooled~ Are you sure your oligie isn't universal?"
"Exactly, even Black Carp will take it at the surface, and you tell me there's no universal bait? Hurry up and share it~"
"I suspect Brother Wo Zi has a golden finger, but I have no evidence~"
"How is there no evidence~ He used oligie to catch fish after fish until he reached the limit!"
The livestream room was a mess of arguments and frantic roasting... Meanwhile, in Xiushui Village.
In the program control room, Jing Yu, Cheng Yan, and Qu Lang stood to one side, smiling as they exchanged pleasantries with a middle-aged man in front of them.
"Director Zhang, I'm really sorry to have troubled you to make the trip here~"
The middle-aged man waved his hand. "It's only right. You're here to film a show, which is a good thing and provides publicity for our Annan."
After some pleasantries, the group finally got down to business.
"Actually, we've been monitoring the issues you're concerned about. After all, Annan isn't just Xiushui Village."
"So, you can rest assured. Currently, we haven't detected any signs of an incoming rainstorm. If there are any, we will organize an evacuation immediately to protect your safety."
The middle-aged man spoke in a pleasant tone.
The Meteorological Bureau was a place with no real power, and basically no one paid attention to him. So, having received a call from above this morning and an invitation from the Program Production Crew, he had hurried over eagerly, not daring to be even slightly negligent.
