Chapter 15 The Birth of a Great Demon!

Jiang Chen stroked the tang dynasty straight sword in his hand; after the incident of killing the county magistrate, his filter for authority had diminished significantly.

"As long as my power is strong enough, I can naturally act according to my own will," Jiang Chen said calmly.

He was naturally not talking about acting recklessly; a certain sage once said: 'Do what thou wilt, but do no harm.'

Jiang Chen felt this phrase was very much in line with philosophical reason and shared a similar essence with the Chinese saying, 'Follow one's heart without overstepping the rules.'

It was also often regarded by him as a guiding principle.

Captain Xu Chang felt a chill run down his spine for a moment because he could hear that Jiang Chen was not boasting; he truly thought this way.

Captain Xu Chang's gaze turned cold for a moment, but remembering the strength of the person in front of him, it became much gentler again.

"Jiang Chen, actually, with your ability, joining the 749 Bureau is also a good choice."

Jiang Chen shook his head: "Sorry, the current me no longer wants to be bound."

"Or you could also just hold a nominal position at the 749 Bureau..." Just as Captain Xu Chang wanted to continue, a phone call came through.

"Hello, what? A Great Demon? Okay, I'll be there right away!"

After hanging up, Captain Xu Chang spoke earnestly to Jiang Chen: "Jiang Chen, you were once a part of the 749 Bureau. You should know that the 749 Bureau is not the kind of place rife with bureaucracy; we believe in letting the capable hold the position."

"Alright, I have something urgent to attend to here, I'll head off first. See you."

After saying this, Captain Xu Chang hurried away.

Jiang Chen had also heard the voice on his phone: "A Great Demon?"

That a Great Demon could emerge in this era really surprised him a little.

However, although Jiang Chen was curious, he didn't intend to go watch the commotion. If it really was a Great Demon, with his level of Dao, he would be slapped to death by the Great Demon in one go.

The matter of Ma Dajiang had finally come to an end like this. Jiang Chen went to the hospital to visit Lu Xingye.

But Lu Xingye still showed no signs of waking up. The doctor said this was already the best outcome, and it was very likely he would never wake up in this lifetime.

Looking at Lu Xingye's parents outside the ward, who had cried who knows how many times and whose eyes were still red, Jiang Chen felt a heaviness in his heart for a moment.

He suddenly thought that the Shangqing Sect should have some Talismans that could cure illnesses, which might be useful for Lu Xingye's condition.

Among them, the most useful type of Talisman should be called the Heavenly Physician Talisman; if he could learn it, it should be able to make Lu Xingye wake up.

However, this kind of Talisman was not a basic Talisman, and Jiang Chen didn't know it yet.

To learn it, he would have to wait until he returned to Mount Mao and received the Talisman ordination before he could learn it.

Jiang Chen walked out of the hospital with thoughts on his mind, but happened to run into an acquaintance.

"Jiang Chen? Why are you at the hospital?" Zhao Ke'er looked at Jiang Chen curiously, a hint of strangeness in her beautiful eyes.

After graduating from university, Jiang Chen had become increasingly handsome.

"I have a friend who got injured and is hospitalized. I'm here to visit him," Jiang Chen said.

"A friend, a girlfriend?" Zhao Ke'er asked curiously.

"No, it's a colleague."

Jiang Chen responded calmly. When he was in university, because of his good grades, good looks, and lack of airs, he was considered a semi-prominent figure in his class.

Back then, he hadn't gone up to run for class monitor, but was forced by his roommates to participate in the selection as a prank.

Jiang Chen, helpless, could only go up and casually say: "Hello everyone, I am Jiang Chen."

Then he came back down, not expecting to be voted as class monitor by his classmates.

However, after graduation, he rarely kept in touch with his former classmates.

Especially after joining the Night Watcher.

He didn't expect to run into an acquaintance outside the hospital at this moment.

He had an impression of Zhao Ke'er because she was sweet-looking and quite popular among the boys back in school.

"Um, Jiang Chen, ever since graduation, you left the class group chat, and no one knows your current situation."

Speaking of this, Zhao Ke'er paused: "Jiang Chen, you might not know yet, but Shen Xinyi is getting married."

Jiang Chen thought for a few seconds before remembering who Shen Xinyi was.

His rumored girlfriend from his university days. At first, no one knew who started it, but a photo was taken of Jiang Chen and Shen Xinyi together, in which they were talking and looked very intimate.

In reality, it was just a matter of perspective; the two were discussing serious matters.

Usually, Jiang Chen rarely interacted with Shen Xinyi either. After the rumor spread, Jiang Chen even tried to debunk it with the boys, but not many people believed him.

Because the female lead never stood up to debunk it.

Because of this, there were Young Masters who came to trouble Jiang Chen, but relying on his strength, Jiang Chen soon beat that Young Master into submission.

From then on, he never came to trouble Jiang Chen again.

Jiang Chen was slow to realize that Shen Xinyi was using him as a shield.

She was beautiful, even more so than Zhao Ke'er, and heard to be the daughter of some conglomerate, so there were always people pursuing her.

She simply took advantage of this rumor to divert the trouble to Jiang Chen.

At this moment, hearing the news that Shen Xinyi was getting married, Jiang Chen felt no fluctuation in his heart. He had never had any feelings for this woman, so naturally, he didn't care about her personal affairs.

"Zhao Ke'er, I'll emphasize this again: Shen Xinyi and I have absolutely no relationship."

"Fine, fine, but we happen to have a class reunion today. Since we ran into each other, why don't you come along?"

Jiang Chen refused directly, "No, I have things to do. Have fun."

After saying this, Jiang Chen wanted to leave directly, but didn't expect Zhao Ke'er to be persistent and quickly blocked Jiang Chen's path.

"Jiang Chen... hey, hey!"

Jiang Chen didn't indulge Zhao Ke'er at all; he reached out and grabbed her shoulder, easily pushing her to the side.

Zhao Ke'er was a bit embarrassed and angry: "You!"

But all Jiang Chen left her was his back.

Zhao Ke'er then left angrily.

Jiang Chen didn't feel much; ever since he came into contact with the bizarre world of Dao cultivation, he could no longer return to the life of a normal person.

While working at the Night Watcher department, he had also intentionally or unintentionally cut ties with some familiar people.

Further contact wouldn't bring any benefits, and might even bring them unknown dangers.

But Zhao Ke'er wouldn't think that way.

After arriving at the hotel private room for the class reunion, when the conversation was in full swing, Zhao Ke'er mentioned meeting Jiang Chen.

For a moment, everyone's attention was attracted.

"Our class monitor has disappeared since graduation. Now that Shen Xinyi is getting married, he appears in front of you, Ke'er, and then refuses to come to the reunion. Isn't he deliberately trying to attract the attention of the class beauty Shen?" someone joked.

Everyone knew it was unlikely, but to cater to Shen Xinyi, they all echoed the sentiment.

Shen Xinyi smiled reservedly: "Everyone, stop joking. The past is already in the past. Jiang Chen not wanting to come isn't necessarily because of me. Everyone shouldn't speculate wildly anymore."

A well-dressed man also picked up a glass of red wine and said with a smile: "That's right, Jiang Chen might have been glorious in school, but after entering society, he and Xinyi, and I, are no longer people of the same world."
