Chapter 161 Slaying Gods

After eating and drinking their fill, they sauntered back to their room under the stunned gazes of the others in the shop.

After a simple wash, Jiang Chen sat cross-legged on the bed and began to meditate.

This time, his main focus was still on carving those strange Inscriptions onto his own Life Wheel.

Carving Inscriptions was like walking a tightrope; it allowed for no distraction. Fortunately, Jiang Chen had enough focus, and not a single mistake occurred.

He remembered a total of one hundred and twenty-six Inscriptions. Last time, Jiang Chen had already carved fifty, leaving seventy-six yet to be carved.

As Jiang Chen carved the Inscriptions onto his own Life Wheel one by one, the Life Wheel seemed to become active again, with circles of light flowing over it.

Jiang Chen had a strange feeling that the Inscriptions he was carving didn't seem to be granting him any kind of power, but rather, they were undoing various Seals.

These Inscriptions were the keys to unlocking the Seals, and the power he obtained came from undoing a corner of the Seals. This made Jiang Chen's heart stir, but he didn't dwell on it for now.

As the Inscriptions were carved onto it, Jiang Chen felt his own strength steadily increasing.

Finally, when he carved the fourteenth Inscription, Jiang Chen's aura surged and then quickly grew by a notch.

His cultivation had advanced from the first level of the Life Wheel Realm to the second level.

This cultivation was natural and smooth, with no suspicion of forced progress.

Jiang Chen did not stop there but continued to carve, as if the improvement in his cultivation was merely a minor interlude to him.

By late at night, Jiang Chen had carved ninety-nine Inscriptions. He slowly exhaled a long breath, opened his eyes, and stopped his practice.

It wasn't that he didn't want to continue, but he felt a shackle.

Jiang Chen's spiritual sense told him that at this current stage, his strength only allowed him to carve this many Inscriptions; if he carved more, he feared there might be unpredictable consequences.

Therefore he stopped, adjusted his inner breath, and prepared to sleep.

...

It seemed as if a long night had passed. When Jiang Chen's consciousness returned like a tide, he could already hear the bustling traffic outside the window.

Looking at the steel city outside the window, Jiang Chen had a feeling as if he were in a dream.

After a simple wash.

Knock, knock, knock! Knock, knock, knock!

"Ancestral Master, I found a Sichuan restaurant. The taste is quite authentic. I packed some spicy chicken and boiled fish for you. Ancestral Master, hurry and have a taste!"

Jiang Chen was about to say he wouldn't eat, but the words died on his lips as he suddenly paused, feeling his taste buds putting up a fight.

Having been in the Tang Dynasty for so long, he hadn't eaten modern dishes in ages.

Although Tang Dynasty food wasn't bad, it lacked many seasonings, and the variety wasn't as great as in modern times. Ultimately, it lacked a bit of color, aroma, and taste.

"Alright."

Jiang Chen said, then walked to the entryway and opened the door.

At the door was Jia He, looking nervous yet slightly excited.

'The Ancestral Master is finally eating the food I brought. I'm so happy.'

'Come to think of it, for someone as powerful as the Ancestral Master, would adding a bit of paraquat or potassium cyanide to the food kill him?'

Jia He quickly slapped his own head. What was he daydreaming about all day? How could someone like the Ancestral Master be poisoned to death?

'No, I shouldn't even be thinking about this. This is betraying my master and ancestors!' Jia He lowered his head in shame.

Jiang Chen naturally didn't know about Jia He's inner monologue; he only saw Jia He smiling one moment and looking dejected the next, wondering what he was thinking about.

He took the food, but Jia He still wanted to follow him inside.

Bang! The door was suddenly shut, and Jia He, left outside, looked confused.

...

Over an hour later, Jia He came over again, and this time Jiang Chen let him in.

"Ancestral Master, the bureau is asking if our mission is complete. Yesterday's burning of the Yasukuni Shrine resulted in so many deaths, and the international public opinion pressure is immense."

"The higher-ups are urging us to return immediately if we've retrieved the item. If not, we should return for the time being, and they will conduct negotiations and condemnations later."

"I've already told them that the item is in our hands."

"Negotiations? Condemnations? By the time they get moving, the opportunity will have long passed."

"Uh, well, maybe the higher-ups have their own considerations." Jia He said, feeling a bit embarrassed.

"Tell them I still have some matters to attend to here. Once I'm done, I'll naturally return." Jiang Chen said calmly.

He had been hesitant before, fearing his strength was insufficient, but now that his cultivation had greatly increased and his progress in Divine Ability and Spells was not low, he could protect himself even if he encountered an opponent at the Late Stage of the Bitter Sea.

Moreover, even if there were high-level gods in Takamagahara, after so many years of Spiritual Qi decline and the Law not manifesting, their strength was likely less than one-tenth of what it used to be.

In this battle, the advantage is with me!

"But the captain says that the 749 Bureau headquarters is applying a lot of pressure now. They are afraid of causing disputes and bringing about unnecessary trouble."

"Do they only know how to pressure their own people? Trouble? What trouble? Am I trouble?"

Jia He was speechless. He certainly didn't dare to say that the Ancestral Master was trouble, nor did he think so himself, but he was afraid that the 749 Bureau's higher-ups might have such thoughts.

He gathered his thoughts for a moment before saying: "Alright, I'll reply to them now. Ancestral Master, may I ask what else we have to do later?"

Jiang Chen lowered his eyes slightly, his gaze as deep as a sea of stars. He softly spat out two words, as simple as taking a stroll through the streets, yet they made Jia He's pupils shrink sharply!

"Slaughtering Gods."

...

Jia He, with an extremely complicated mood, called Captain Xu Chang on the satellite phone.

"Captain, Ancestral... Junior Martial Uncle Jiang says he still has some matters here, and he will naturally return after he is finished."

After Jia He finished speaking, he waited for a reaction from the other end of the line. He vaguely heard what seemed to be a heated argument, but it was too far away to hear clearly.

After a moment, Captain Xu Chang's somewhat grave voice came from the other side, slightly distorted by electronic interference.

"He has already turned the island nation upside down. What else does he want to do? The headquarters is already dissatisfied with this, saying we are acting arbitrarily. Even the bureau chief has had his authority temporarily suspended, and someone sent from above is now fully in charge of this matter. I can no longer control the situation now."

"The requirement from above is for you to return to the country as soon as possible."

Jia He was in a very difficult position: "But Captain, you know I can't refuse Junior Martial Uncle Jiang..."

At this moment, a clattering sound came from the other end of the phone, followed by a strange voice.

"Listen, I don't care what you are planning to do now, and I don't care if you have succeeded or not. Now, immediately, return to the country! Otherwise, don't blame me for taking mandatory measures!"

That voice was extremely bossy, and the tone was very dissatisfied and stern.

Jia He, who had been polite originally, was also provoked into a bit of temper.

"Sorry, I don't care which 'higher-up' you are. I said we can't return, so we can't return. If you have anything to say, keep it to yourself!"

Jia He was about to hang up, but at this moment, Captain Xu Chang took the phone back.

"Jia He, you don't have to return yet, but at least you should tell us what Jiang Chen is planning to do."

Jia He hesitated for a moment. Since the Ancestral Master didn't tell him not to disclose it, that meant he could say it.

So, mimicking Jiang Chen's tone, he said calmly: "Preparing to slaughter Gods."

Silence, deathly silence.

For a moment, there was no sound at all from the other end of the phone.
