Chapter 53 Another Force
Jiang Chen and the others walked out of the tunnel.
Meanwhile, another group of people arrived outside a different tomb chamber.
Looking at the thick soil on the ground, Old Six asked, "B-Boss, is this the place?"
"That's right. Don't dig in the wrong spot and make the brothers waste their effort for nothing."
The One-Eyed Boss took out a compass to check the orientation and the timing.
"When seeking a Dragon, one must always observe the encircling mountains; each layer of mountains is a barrier. This should be correct. The positioning is right here, and judging by the terrain, it can't be wrong."
The One-Eyed Boss picked up a handful of yellow soil from the ground, sniffed it, and then put a little in his mouth to taste.
"That's right, this is it."
"Get to work!"
With that, someone immediately picked up a Luoyang shovel, and they began drilling into the ground with a small portable drill.
Because of the cover provided by the trees, the loud noise faded away within a hundred meters.
The others didn't stay idle either; they grabbed their Luoyang shovels and came over to help.
These people were all cultivators with remarkable Qi and strength. Before long, they had dug a pit about two meters in diameter and seven or eight meters deep.
Until a thick layer of bluestone was unearthed.
"Boss, we've reached the spot!"
The Tattooed Man stuck his backside out and said excitedly.
"Great, move aside!" The One-Eyed Boss kicked the Tattooed Man's backside, then leaned over to look into the deep pit.
When he saw the layer of bluestone and the patterns engraved on it, a look of pleasant surprise also appeared on his face.
"This job is definitely profitable!"
However, this layer of bluestone slabs was difficult to deal with. Usually, one would use explosives, but this group was worried that the noise would be too loud and alert the authorities.
They had to remember that they weren't very far away from them right now.
Still, these tomb raiders had a way. They took out a thermal laser cutter that looked like a sniper rifle from their tools.
They aimed the powerful laser at the bluestone slab. Without any visible abnormality, the slab began to sizzle and spark.
The advantage of doing this was that the noise was much smaller, and there was no vibration.
However, the disadvantage was that it wasn't as efficient as explosives.
After a full hour of cutting, they had only managed to cut an arc-shaped mark of thirty or forty centimeters on the bluestone slab.
At this rate, it would take at least two more hours to cut an opening large enough for a person to pass through.
"Old Six, what are you dawdling for? How much longer? If we get discovered by the authorities, we'll all be in serious trouble!"
Old Six, who was operating the thermal laser cutter below, replied without turning his head, "B-Boss, this thing, the, the efficiency is too slow. The st-stone slab is also thick; it'll take another one or two hours!"
"Damn it, digging for a sweet potato is such a hassle," the One-Eyed Boss cursed.
Old Six muttered from below, "It, it's not like you're the one putting in the effort, but you're still bl-blathering on and on."
"Old Six, what are you muttering about down there!"
"Nothing, just pr-praising you, Boss!"
At this moment, the One-Eyed Boss's satellite phone suddenly rang.
He waited for about ten seconds before picking up the phone.
"Hello, Mr. Yamamoto, is there something you need, calling at this hour?"
A voice with a clumsy accent came through the phone.
"Gao-san, there are a few tomb-guarding Magical Artifacts in this large tomb."
"Mr. Yamamoto, do you want us to bring these Magical Artifacts out for you?"
"That's right. These Magical Artifacts are very important items in this Ancient Tomb. I demand that you bring them out completely intact."
Magical Artifacts? The One-Eyed Boss was shocked. Although he had raided countless tombs, he hadn't actually seen many Magical Artifacts.
He had once obtained a Magical Artifact, a heart-protecting mirror, but during one tomb raid, that mirror had inexplicably shattered.
But on that trip, everyone else in his group died except for him.
This made him realize the true value of these Magical Artifacts.
"Mr. Yamamoto, rest assured, I will definitely follow your request and bring all these Magical Artifacts out for you!"
"Yosh, once the job is done, I can add another twenty percent to the original payment!"
The One-Eyed Boss was overjoyed. After hanging up, he spat on the ground.
"Pah, what a piece of work!"
Did he really think he was some kind of idiot?
As if he would actually give him any Magical Artifacts he found. It would be better to keep them for himself; when the time came, he could just make up a few excuses, and he doubted the man could do anything about it.
If he took the Magical Artifacts to the black market, or kept them for himself, wasn't that far more tempting than a mere twenty percent bonus?
Finally, after two hours, a loud boom was heard from the bottom of the pit.
A slab of bluestone fell down, revealing a circular passage about one meter in diameter.
Below was a pitch-black, bottomless tomb chamber.
"Flares, gas analyzer, live chicken!"
The One-Eyed Boss gave a series of orders, and soon someone brought all three items over.
A phosphorus flare was thrown down, illuminating the entire tomb chamber. Then, someone threw down a live chicken with shiny tail feathers.
"Cluck! Cluck!" The rooster kept squawking, seemingly terrified of going down, but it was ruthlessly thrown down anyway, leaving a trail of feathers behind.
Afterward, someone used the gas analyzer to test the air quality inside the tomb chamber.
This was a combination of new and old methods, just to be safe.
"Boss, there's no problem."
The gas analyzer showed that there were no toxic substances in the air inside, but strangely, as soon as the rooster went down, it instantly went silent.
This left the man feeling a bit puzzled.
However, the One-Eyed Boss could no longer sit still.
The staggering profits drove him to want to close this deal as quickly as possible.
"What are you standing there for? Go down! Airplane, you go down first!"
Airplane was the Tattooed Man. Hearing the One-Eyed Boss call his name, he didn't hesitate to pick up the rope and start winding it around his body.
Then, someone else secured the other end of the rope, and the Tattooed Man, wearing a headlamp, began to rappel down into the tomb chamber.
Before long, clattering sounds came from below, and the rope was tugged a few times, signaling that it was fine, so the group started heading down one after another.
"Damn, why is it so hot in here? Is there geothermal heat down here?"
After going down, everyone was surprised to find that although it looked spacious, it was actually just a corridor.
So, the group walked along the corridor until they were blocked by a huge stone door.
"B-Boss, the door won't open." Old Six searched around but couldn't find any mechanism, concluding that this must be a door with no way to open it.
The One-Eyed Boss said impatiently, "If you can't open it, can't you think of a way? If all else fails, just use explosives to blow it open!"
So, Old Six took out the explosives and began to set them up.
"Watch what you're doing, damn it! If anything goes wrong, we'll all be buried alive in here!" The One-Eyed Boss's eyelids twitched.
Now that this underground corridor was more than ten meters deep, the group wasn't worried about the sound of the explosion reaching the outside.
With a boom, the stone door was blasted open, creating a gap that was barely large enough for a person to pass through.
After checking the situation inside, they walked in one after another.
...
"Boss, it's empty in here. It seems like there's nothing at all?"
Eventually, the group reached a tomb chamber. Looking around, apart from a few eternal lamps still flickering with light and a stone platform in the center, there were no other items.
