38: Chapter 38 'Security Guards', 'Medical Staff'
Squelch, snap.
The Green Wolf's fur, flesh, and all external defenses were rendered useless in that instant, easily crushed by the Sha Jin Wolf, and its spine behind its head was severed by a single swipe of the Sha Jin Wolf's claw.
In almost an instant, the Green Wolf's head was held in the Sha Jin Wolf's jaws.
The Sha Jin Wolf, its lupine eyes still blood-red, turned while carrying Bai Muxue. After releasing the prey it held in its jaws, it decisively charged toward the other Green Wolf that was tearing at the Pink Pig.
Its low breathing sounded like an alarm. While tearing at the Pink Pig's front leg, it took a hit from the mace wielded by the relentlessly cursing Wan Kang. It immediately released its grip in pain, and several holes appeared on its body, blood bubbling out continuously.
"Woo..."
"Woo your grandfather, come at me if you have the guts!"
Holding the blood-stained mace, Wan Kang roared at the Green Wolf with a flushed face, using this act to bolster his own courage.
The next second, the cautiously growling Green Wolf suddenly wanted to flee. Wan Kang's expression froze, but before the Green Wolf could turn and run two steps, a black stream of light had already collided with it.
The terrifying wolf claw, like a sharp rake, instantly tore the second Green Wolf's flank to shreds. The Green Wolf, which had been quite imposing just moments ago, died instantly!
Having killed the two Green Wolves, the Sha Jin Wolf felt incredibly satisfied. It stepped back a little and tilted its head back to let out a resounding wolf howl.
"Awooo!"
[I killed them all, there's meat to eat!]
Because she was not the Sha Jin Wolf's Beast Tamer, Bai Muxue could not understand what Dahei was saying. She simply took this wolf howl as a declaration and victory song after a wolf king's hunt.
"Dahei, let's go over there; Qin Ding's spear is still there."
Bai Muxue patted Dahei's neck. Dahei understood instantly and trotted over to Zhou Chang, who was struggling to get up.
Seeing Zhou Chang trying to struggle to his feet, Dahei immediately bared its teeth again, slapping Zhou Chang down onto his side. It pressed its large wolf paw onto Zhou Chang's arm, its sharp claws sinking directly into his flesh and drawing bright red wounds.
Immense force and pain coursed through Zhou Chang's entire body in an instant. Pale and covered in sweat, Zhou Chang looked at Bai Muxue, who sat high upon the wolf's back, looking down at him, and a glimmer of hope welled up in his heart.
"Bai Muxue, this is a Class Competition... students shouldn't be appearing here..."
"Dahei, I don't like his eyes."
Huh? Huh?!
Dahei's eyes lit up. Without hesitation, it swung its claw violently. Most of the flesh on Zhou Chang's face vanished instantly, revealing stark white bone. His nose bridge was also crushed, and his vision, like a disconnected network cable, instantly went black.
"Aaaaaah!"
Dahei shook off the flesh stuck to its hand in disgust, then was suddenly attracted by something. Dahei stepped back two paces, its lupine eyes fixed on the wrist Zhou Chang was using to cover his face.
That parasitic halo was fading to gray at a speed visible to the naked eye, and Zhou Chang's vital signs were beginning to stabilize.
"Woo woo woo..."
Clearly sensing that Zhou Chang had survived, Dahei immediately let out a dissatisfied whine, its wolf face instantly turning ferocious, and its large wolf paw slightly raised...
Seeing this, Bai Muxue's heart skipped a beat, and she immediately shouted.
"Dahei, wait!"
After pausing for two seconds, Dahei lowered its paw and looked back at Bai Muxue with a hint of grievance, as if questioning why she wouldn't let it kill this person.
Seeing that Dahei was still willing to listen to her, Bai Muxue breathed a sigh of relief.
Fortunately, she had spent plenty of time with Dahei when it was little...
"You're right, but not entirely. That was the previous rule; it isn't anymore..."
As she spoke, Bai Muxue took two deep breaths, as if preparing herself mentally. After getting off Dahei's back, she grasped the end of the spear.
Her gaze tightened instantly. With a force of her wrist, she wrenched the spear out, bringing out a large amount of blood and internal organs.
"Ugh!"
Zhou Chang, who had been clinging to life and was unconscious, instantly widened his eyes, staring at the sky with his dying gaze.
"What right did you have to target me? Do you even deserve to?"
Glancing at the now-dead Zhou Chang, whose arms hung limply on either side of his head, the gruesome wound made Bai Muxue's face pale, but that was all.
"Oh, right, Dahei, over there, there's one more."
She had long since prepared herself mentally and could not possibly regret it.
As for Wan Kang nearby, his legs were already shaking, especially at the moment Dahei shook off the flesh stuck to its claw, and seeing Bai Muxue's ruthless actions, his face turned deathly pale in an instant.
"Still... still one more?"
Wan Kang, lips trembling, hid behind the Pink Pig, peeking out with a head full of fear yet curiosity.
The Pink Pig didn't seem to care.
Another shrill scream rang out. Qin Ding, who had arrived with the White Fox, heard two consecutive screams and could be certain the voices were not Bai Muxue's or Wan Kang's.
Qin Ding breathed a sigh of relief, walked over to Dahei, and gently patted its head. "Well done."
However, when Qin Ding looked up at Bai Muxue and saw her pale face but no injuries on her body, he understood the reason why.
"How are you? Still feeling unwell?"
His voice was soft, filled with concern. Bai Muxue shook her head slightly, offering a somewhat forced smile.
"I'm okay, I'm fine. Oh right, Qin Ding, your spear."
Listening to this voice filled with obvious apology, Qin Ding saw the spear stained with blood and shook his head slightly. "The blood on the spear doesn't matter; just wipe it off with their clothes."
"The security guards and doctors should be here soon; otherwise, there's no point in distributing those bracelets to the students."
Bai Muxue continued along the lines of Qin Ding's words. Nearby, Wan Kang watched all this, his mouth, eyes, and facial muscles twitching uncontrollably.
"Good heavens... people in school are so obsessed with these two... do they know these two are the kind of living devils who are a perfect match for each other?"
"Wait... Zhou Chang and Zhou Shen are dead... Li Dong won't also..."
Wan Kang had heard Qin Ding and Bai Muxue's conversation clearly just now. Throughout the whole thing, they didn't ask about the enemy's condition—oh, wait.
The whole time they only talked about the issue of the spear being stained with blood, and then the inquiry ended there, completely unconcerned with anything else.
Thump, thump.
Heavy footsteps sounded. Some large animal was approaching. The Sha Jin Wolf became instantly alert, its nostrils twitching as it began to analyze the scents in the air.
"Woo..."
[Big Brother, that big tiger from the iron cage, and that person covered in grass, have also come.]
Dahei didn't recognize the Fire-Treading Tiger or the Twin Emerald Vines, but as soon as the description was given, Qin Ding understood immediately and couldn't help but look at Bai Muxue.
"The security and the doctor are here."
Bai Muxue said nothing, simply nodding slightly and looking toward the direction the sound came from.
The Fire-Treading Tiger emerged from the woods. On its back sat the School Doctor familiar to the three of them. Vines from the School Doctor's body extended over the Fire-Treading Tiger's entire body, and hanging from the rope-like vines were two people; one of them was the deceased Li Dong.
What Qin Ding and Bai Muxue didn't expect was that, besides Li Dong, there was actually another person they didn't recognize hanging there.
It seems they weren't the only two with grudges to settle.
Involuntarily, the two exchanged a glance.
The Fire-Treading Tiger looked at the two bloodied figures on the ground, its large tiger eyes showing a hint of surprise.
It had killed many Beast Tamers, so it naturally knew that Zhou Chang's injury was clearly fatal, and it was a fatal injury inflicted after the parasitic bracelet had taken effect.
The purpose was obvious: it was aimed at taking a life.
The School Doctor on the tiger's back glanced at Zhou Chang's injuries, then looked at Qin Ding and Bai Muxue, immediately understanding something. With a massive headache, he rubbed his brow and couldn't help but complain in a low voice.
"Could it be another case of the usual lust-driven malice? Sigh..."
"Sigh... three more dead... why did the Federation have to go and change the rules for no good reason..."
One couldn't blame the School Doctor for saying this; there was no other reason. Lust-driven malice was the most common occurrence in the wild, and the Federation's laws couldn't reach beyond the city-states.
Equally common were personal vendettas, and even murder for loot had to take a backseat.
However, now that the Federation had changed the rules, the school would become the first target for parents to lash out at.
At this thought, the School Doctor couldn't help but shake his head, finally sighing in resignation. "Time to work... collect the bodies..."
