40: Chapter 40 Nine Beast Heads, Nine Parts

[Spirit Beast: Black Wolf]

[Potential: Ordinary]

[Element: None]

[Level: 8 (Low Tier)]

[Ability: Grudge-bearing]

[Bloodline: Wolf (92%), Dog (8%)]

[Evolution Path (Dog-type): Requires Dog bloodline to reach 10%]

[Evolution Path (Wolf-type): Requires reaching Level 11]

[Potential Upgrade: ...]

[Description: A pack-dwelling wolf species. When facing powerful enemies, it will decisively retreat and remember the enemy to take revenge in the future. Due to its grudge-bearing nature, it is not very suitable for novices to form contracts with; if handled poorly, one might end up being resented instead.]

Life Records appeared one after another before Qin Ding's eyes. Qin Ding scanned them roughly; without exception, they were all Black Wolves, with the highest level being eight and the lowest being five.

There were six in total, a small-to-medium-sized wolf pack.

"Pat, pat."

The Sha Jin Wolf stepped out from behind Qin Ding. Its pitch-black wolf eyes flickered with the green light of a hunter, staring fixedly at the highest-level Black Wolf.

An aura belonging to a high-tier spirit beast invisibly pressed down upon the wolf pack in front.

"Woo..."

[Big Brother, let me go up and test them first...]

After greeting Qin Ding, the Sha Jin Wolf tensed its leg muscles and darted out like an arrow released from a bow. The opposing wolf pack reacted quickly; the Alpha Wolf immediately took two Level 7 Black Wolves to meet the Sha Jin Wolf.

As for the remaining three Black Wolves, they charged from the left and right sides toward the three people behind the Sha Jin Wolf—Qin Ding and his group.

"Phew, just fighting one?"

Seeing that the main pressure had been diverted by the Sha Jin Wolf, Wan Kang felt much more relaxed. If it was just fighting one Black Wolf, he still had confidence in himself.

Qin Ding, holding his long spear, subconsciously looked back at Bai Muxue. Seeing her shake her head at him, he decisively stepped forward with his spear and charged at the Black Wolf rushing in from the right.

Almost instantly, the Black Wolf targeted by Qin Ding showed only the anger of being provoked on its ferocious wolf face. After emitting a short, vicious howl, it pushed off with its hind legs and lunged at Qin Ding.

The charging Qin Ding stopped abruptly. Calmly watching the lunging Black Wolf, he flicked his wrist. His long spear shifted and thrust out rapidly from bottom to top, as fast as lightning.

With no wasted movement, the refined iron spear blade thrust accurately into the Black Wolf's open mouth, passing through its skull as easily as a knife through tofu. The shrill howl had just begun before it was abruptly cut short, shrinking back into its throat.

The Black Wolf was skewered directly on the spear blade. Warm blood flowed rapidly down the shaft, all of it absorbed by the red tassel made from the fur of a water-absorbing beast.

The red tassel, which had originally been distinct strands, now looked like swollen strips, shining with a glaring crimson under the moonlight.

With a flick of the spear and a shake of his wrist, the entire Black Wolf was flung to the ground, emitting a dull thud.

The wolf blood absorbed by the red tassel was also shaken clean by this motion, leaving a striking red mark on the ground.

Having finished off his target, Qin Ding immediately turned his head to look at Bai Muxue and Wan Kang.

He saw Bai Muxue holding her long spear, which had pierced directly into the Black Wolf's left shoulder. The White Fox, moving like a ghost, instantly seized the opportunity to close the distance, using both its mouth and claws to bite through the Black Wolf's abdomen in an instant.

As for Wan Kang, with the Pink Pig acting as a meat shield in front, Wan Kang simply smashed his mace onto the wolf, paralyzing it.

The Pink Pig seized the opportunity to pounce, pinning down the Black Wolf that was trying to rise, followed by one dull thud after another.

Seeing this, Qin Ding turned to look at the Sha Jin Wolf, which was fighting three wolves at once...

...on the beast's battlefield.

After the Sha Jin Wolf easily tore off the foreleg of one of the harassing Black Wolves and effortlessly shredded its throat, it stared directly at the highest-level Alpha Wolf.

Perhaps intimidated by the Sha Jin Wolf's strength, the Alpha Wolf's momentum clearly faltered, and it showed signs of retreating.

An unexpected scene occurred: the Alpha Wolf's slight retreat not only failed to resonate with the other Level 7 Black Wolf, but instead, this last Level 7 Black Wolf bit the retreating Alpha Wolf without warning.

The Sha Jin Wolf had originally intended to press forward step by step, intending to take the Alpha Wolf as a mount and use it as a living radar for this Class Competition Mountain. However, seeing the guard wolf beside it turn on the Alpha Wolf without hesitation and clamp its jaws tightly onto the Alpha Wolf's neck...

The Sha Jin Wolf froze for a moment, then quickly dashed forward. Its open mouth revealed white fangs radiating a cold glint as it bit directly at the back of the guard wolf's neck.

"Snap."

In an instant, the guard wolf's neck was bitten through, and it died. Shaking off the guard wolf and looking at the dying Alpha Wolf, a flash of human-like regret passed through the Sha Jin Wolf's eyes.

It extended a claw to deliver the final blow to the Alpha Wolf, then looked back at the guard wolf's corpse with extreme displeasure.

This scene left the three people behind—Qin Ding and his group—stunned.

"What... is going on?"

Wan Kang was a bit confused. He wanted to ask Bai Muxue, but felt she wouldn't pay attention to him. He subconsciously looked at Qin Ding in front, then consciously shut his mouth.

He had almost forgotten that Qin Ding's liberal arts grades were far worse than his own...

"Not sure, and it doesn't matter. Perhaps there was some grudge between them to begin with?"

Qin Ding, who didn't care about such things, said casually and looked at Wan Kang, "Didn't you say you brought a snake-skin bag? Take it out; it's time to collect the wolf heads."

"Six Black Wolves, plus the spirit beasts of Li Dong and his two companions, that makes nine beast heads in total. That counts as nine points, right? It's just a pity that we didn't bring the Forest Snake's head."

Upon hearing this, Wan Kang's mind went blank. He seemed unable to process Qin Ding's logic, and even stuttered when he spoke.

"Uh... is that how it's calculated? No, I mean, do Li Dong and his team's spirit beasts count for points too?"

Hearing this, Qin Ding frowned. "Why wouldn't they? Didn't the rules say one spirit beast head equals one point?"

Wan Kang opened his mouth. Having understood the implication of Qin Ding's words, he was too afraid to make a sound.

In the Class Competition, killing others' spirit beasts wasn't unheard of, but he had truly never heard of someone killing another's spirit beast and then taking its head to count toward their own score.

Perhaps, people in the past hadn't thought of this? Or were the corpses of the spirit beasts always taken away completely by their masters?

Wan Kang didn't know, but he knew that Qin Ding's way of thinking was, to some extent, quite terrifying.

"Not bad, not bad. That move just now was great."

Bai Muxue crouched down, her tone filled with praise as she stroked the fur along the White Fox's back.

Qin Ding, standing to the side, watched the White Fox, which had already reached Level 10, a look of contemplation in his eyes.

After the Class Competition ends, the White Fox will break through to the high tier and evolve, right? It's just that I don't know about the person who helped Mu Xue collect all the positive and negative effects of the Life and Death Contract.

Could that be Mu Xue's teacher in the path of a Breeder?
