48: Chapter 48, Day Three: Bambi Ends

The Sha Jin Wolf, which had just finished assisting Bai Muxue in taking down the second Sharp-Toothed Crocodile and was instinctively charging toward the last and highest-level Sharp-Toothed Crocodile, suddenly came to a halt.

The massive momentum dragged a several-meter-long trail on the ground. Its pitch-black wolf eyes revealed a human-like strangeness as they stared straight at Wan Kang, who was scrambling backward to quickly put some distance between them.

And at the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile, whose throat was blocked; the more it struggled, the worse the wound became and the more it bled.

"Woo... woo!"

Muffled, anxious beast roars mixed with blood kept spraying from the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile's mouth. Looking at that mace, the Sha Jin Wolf inexplicably had a strange illusion of empathy, and its own throat even seemed to ache a little.

At this moment, the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile had absolutely no intention of pursuing or continuing to attack; it only wanted, in distress and pain, to shake out the thing stuck in its throat.

"Awoo?" [Is that even possible?]

Seeing that the last Sharp-Toothed Crocodile seemed to have been dealt with as well, the Sha Jin Wolf looked back at the approaching Qin Ding, then stopped in place without moving, watching the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile's struggle with great interest.

"Hulu?"

The Pink Pig, discovering that there was no movement following behind it, felt a bit confused. It first turned its head back, and after confirming that there wasn't a single Sharp-Toothed Crocodile behind it, its half-squinted pig eyes widened slightly.

Much like a child who had lost a favorite toy, it began to turn around and search with confusion and anxiety, and soon it discovered the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile struggling miserably on the spot.

Standing there and watching for a while, the Pink Pig's eyes gradually brightened.

"Hululu!"

Its pig mouth bared its tusks, emitting a loud charging beast roar, and it bolted at full speed on all fours toward the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile.

The Sharp-Toothed Crocodile saw the Pink Pig charging at it, and a sense of crisis drove it to instinctively attack the Pink Pig. However, though it could open its mouth as wide as it could, it could not fully close it, always leaving a small gap.

That was the helplessness of having a mace stuck in it.

It bit down on the Pink Pig's leg, only scraping the Pink Pig's skin, but what awaited the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile was a creature of similar size but greater weight pressing directly onto its head.

The sound of a heavy object crushing it and something breaking sounded almost at the same time. As it began to continuously shift its body to crush it, the solid, pure iron part of the mace directly pierced through the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile's upper jaw.

Originally, the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile had been bleeding rhythmically, but at this moment, the blood at the corner of its mouth flowed out in torrents, like a broken water pipe.

And it stained the Pink Pig's abdomen.

Qin Ding stood beside the Sha Jin Wolf; the human and the wolf, both parties to the Life and Death Contract, wore expressions that were more or less the same at this moment.

"Truly... an unexpected battle. Perhaps this is what a real battle is? Full of surprises and wonders?"

By the end, Qin Ding couldn't help but shake his head and chuckle. Bai Muxue, on the other hand, had a conflicted expression. "That's not important... As long as it succeeds, that's all that matters."

"Is it dead?"

At this moment, even Wan Kang, who had caused all of this, couldn't quite believe his eyes. After rubbing them, he discovered that the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile was truly, undeniably dead.

The corners of his mouth couldn't stop turning upward, but since there were two more formidable people present, he tried hard to restrain himself and didn't laugh out loud.

"Ahem, shall we cut off the heads of these three crocodiles? This time, our points will definitely be enough."

Qin Ding, who was walking over, nodded slightly upon hearing this.

"With the addition of the three Sharp-Toothed Crocodile heads, and the previous beast heads, our points might already be enough for us to sweep the top three."

Six Black Wolf beasts, two Green Wolf heads, one Brocade Fighting Chicken head, two Mountain Boar beasts, one Emerald Mantis head, one Earth Rat head, and three Sharp-Toothed Crocodile heads.

After tallying them up, there were a total of sixteen beast heads. The points for the Emerald Mantis, the Earth Rat, and the Brocade Fighting Chicken heads might be low, but the points for the rest would be quite high.

After finishing the cutting of the beast heads, Wan Kang happily hummed a tune, then pulled a snake-skin bag from the inner pocket of his jacket and wrapped up the three Sharp-Toothed Crocodile heads.

After completing all this, it was already noon. The three of them didn't avoid the smell of blood and simply started a fire by the river to roast meat for lunch.

And the three people's tamed beasts ate raw meat on the side.

Having eaten and drunk his fill, Da Hei lay on the ground, staring at the white and blue sky with a bit of boredom.

"Awoo." [I don't know why, but I'm looking forward to seeing if anything comes looking for trouble tonight.]

To be honest, the continuous battles over the past few days hadn't made the Sha Jin Wolf feel tired; on the contrary, it enjoyed and was immersed in them. Hmm... fighting is awesome!

While thinking about when he could hunt again, Da Hei did not slack off, still trying hard to detect if any prey was approaching by catching scents in the air.

Unfortunately, there was none.

Along the way, a deer wanted to approach to drink water, but once it saw that the three crocodiles in the river were gone, and the shore was covered in crocodile blood with the Sha Jin Wolf lying in the middle of a pool of blood, it didn't even hesitate. It immediately used all its strength to turn around and run.

This situation continued all the way until the morning of the third day.

"It's dawn, it's time to go down the mountain." Qin Ding, who was in the middle of cultivation, was woken up by Bai Muxue. He stood up, casually brushed the dirt off his body, and murmured in a low voice.

Immediately afterward, Qin Ding looked at Wan Kang, who was also getting up, and as if thinking of something, he suddenly spoke.

"Wan Kang, if you get third place, remember to give Xu Hai a share of the prize money; ten thousand or twenty thousand, either is fine."

Wan Kang, who was placing the snake-skin bag onto the Pink Pig, was stunned for a moment upon hearing this. After realizing what was said, he felt a sense of relief in his heart.

Why would Qin Ding say that to him? He knew very well himself that it was Xu Hai who had known about Li Dong's situation initially, and he had only acted as an introducer.

And now, the main provider of the information, Xu Hai, was only going to get a small portion of the prize money, while he was getting the lion's share. What was there for him to be unhappy about?

You have to know that at the very beginning, he had only thought that getting thirty thousand would be enough to make him smile!

With this thought, after securing the snake-skin bag on the Pink Pig's back, Wan Kang turned around, smiled at Qin Ding, and patted his chest to promise.

"Since you've said so, then I will definitely give a portion to Xu Hai."

Hearing this, Qin Ding nodded faintly. "Alright then, let's prepare to go down the mountain. We can walk slowly on the way and see if there are any suitable spirit beasts to hunt."

Bai Muxue breathed a sigh of relief as if a burden had been lifted. She looked down at the White Fox beside her feet, whose fur had become somewhat dirty and messy. A hint of heartache flashed in her eyes, and she crouched down to gather the White Fox into her arms.

"It's about to end. When we get back, I'll give you a good bath."

The White Fox did not resist, but in its intelligent eyes, a hint of strangeness was revealed. Just washing me? Really?
