47: Chapter 47 The Hunt Ends
The Sha Jin Wolf abruptly halted its momentum, dodging the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile's tail sweep and counter-bite, before leaping up to lunge again.
Like a bolt of black lightning, it landed behind the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile, opening its jaws to bite precisely into the junction of the creature's spine and tail.
Amidst a dull thud, the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile felt a sharp pain in its tail followed by stiffness. In a panic, it frantically tried to whip its tail, attempting to shake off the Sha Jin Wolf that was biting it.
However, this action seemed to assist the Sha Jin Wolf. Instead of shaking the wolf off, the crocodile's tail-whipping, combined with that force, allowed the Sha Jin Wolf to completely tear off that sturdy tail.
The cool crocodile blood splashed all over the Sha Jin Wolf's face. After swallowing the blood from the crocodile's tail, a glimmer of excited red light appeared in the wolf's eyes, and it licked its muzzle with a lingering sense of satisfaction.
"Awoo!"
"Your blood is a bit sweet!"
The next instant, a dull thud was heard.
The spear tip, radiating a cold glint like a shooting star, accurately struck the back of the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile's head, piercing through its carapace and into the flesh. The three-meter-long behemoth instantly stopped moving.
Only its large mouth, filled with dense rows of sharp teeth, continued to open and close.
"Its defense is truly tough..."
Qin Ding, who had to pull twice to extract his long spear, frowned slightly for a moment.
Just now, when he thrust the spear, it hadn't pierced through at the first moment; it had hesitated for a split second before going in. If not for the feedback from the Earth Dog, even if the spear in his hand was made of good materials, he might not have been able to pierce it without enough strength.
The Sha Jin Wolf, seeing its boss deliver the final blow, had wanted to say something, but just then, something caught its peripheral vision. Its pupils contracted into pinpricks, and it bolted away again.
Not far away, Bai Muxue and the White Fox were holding off another level-seven Sharp-Toothed Crocodile that was chasing the Pink Pig.
Just as Bai Muxue had said, because of its size and strength issues, the White Fox did not initiate attacks. Instead, it got as close to the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile as possible to lure it into attacking, creating an opportunity for Bai Muxue to strike.
The standard-issue long spear thrust out, but the tip did not pierce the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile's outer carapace. Instead, it sparked against the creature's body and slid off.
"It really doesn't work, huh? It seems I have to wait until the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile opens its mouth to stab its upper or lower jaw..."
Readjusting their target, Bai Muxue and the White Fox maintained a distance. Firstly, it was to prevent the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile from switching targets and charging, and secondly, it was to give the White Fox enough room to leap and dodge.
As long as there was an opportunity, she could quickly step forward and thrust the long spear in. As she thought this, it was already happening.
The White Fox suddenly approached the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile, giggling. The laughter was somewhat eerie and particularly infuriated the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile. It opened its mouth, and with a scramble of its four short legs, it lunged to bite at the jumping White Fox.
"Giggle giggle~"
The White Fox leaped in place to dodge the lunge and landed to the side. Following closely behind was a spear blade gleaming with a cold light.
Now!
Bai Muxue felt a tightening in her chest. Staring at the upper jaw exposed by the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile's open mouth, she quickly stepped forward and thrust her long spear.
Puchi.
The sharp blade tore through flesh. The Sharp-Toothed Crocodile's upper jaw was directly pierced by the long spear. The intense pain caused the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile to instinctively clamp its jaws shut and shake its head.
The tremendous force traveled through the spear shaft. Bai Muxue made a split-second decision and immediately released her grip on the shaft. Watching the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile frantically shaking its head in the open space, along with the swaying spear shaft, a bit of cold sweat appeared on Bai Muxue's forehead.
If she had released it any slower, she might have been flung away, right?
Just as this thought arose, the next second, a snap was heard as the connection between the spearhead and the shaft was snapped off by the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile.
The bad news was that the school-issued standard long spear was broken; the good news was that the spearhead remained inside the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile's mouth, causing secondary damage.
A large amount of viscous, scarlet blood flowed continuously from the corner of the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile's mouth. Having suffered a major loss, the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile dared not close its mouth. One could clearly see the spear blade stuck in its upper jaw, creating a horrific wound.
Having suffered such a setback, the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile charged straight at Bai Muxue with its mouth wide open, regardless of anything else. The White Fox, completely caught off guard by this scene, was shocked and let out a short cry as it gave chase.
"Ying!"
Puchi.
A black figure, faster than the White Fox, flashed past and caught up. It stepped directly onto the head of the charging Sharp-Toothed Crocodile, forcing the creature's gaping mouth shut with the immense force from its wolf paws.
In an instant, the brown crocodile pupils were replaced by a pure, blood-red hue. Its brain was pierced, and blood flowed over its pupils, even causing a bulge to protrude from the top of its head.
Bai Muxue breathed a sigh of relief. After coming to her senses, she wanted to thank Da Hei, but discovered that Da Hei had already disappeared. Realizing this, she turned her head to look in the direction of the last level-eight Sharp-Toothed Crocodile.
Wan Kang, clutching his mace, looked at the three-meter-long crocodile, his mouth twitching uncontrollably. He simply couldn't get close enough to attack.
It was nothing else; the mace was a short weapon and couldn't achieve the reach of a long spear, so getting close to deal with such a large Sharp-Toothed Crocodile was inevitable.
And he didn't have the terrifying feedback that Qin Ding had, which led to this situation. After getting close, he gave the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile a whack with his mace.
He couldn't deal any damage, nor could he cause any stagger, yet the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile could take the hit and, as if nothing had happened, bite him into two pieces.
Seeing that his Pink Pig was running out of breath and tired, Wan Kang gritted his teeth and hardened his heart. He immediately stepped forward, raised his mace, and struck the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile on the head.
Thud.
A very dull and short thud caused the slightly open-mouthed Sharp-Toothed Crocodile to 'obediently' close its mouth.
Sharp-Toothed Crocodile: ?
The already infuriated Sharp-Toothed Crocodile, after being treated this way by Wan Kang, stopped caring about the Pink Pig. It opened its mouth and lunged to bite at Wan Kang, who was right in its face.
The moment he was locked onto by those cold, brown, vertical pupils, Wan Kang had the illusion that his blood had frozen, until he witnessed the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile opening its jaws and lunging toward his waist.
Only then did Wan Kang snap back to reality. In his panic, he instinctively thrust his mace directly into the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile's mouth.
The one-meter-long weapon, under the force of the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile's lunge, went straight into the creature's mouth as if it were nothing, lodging itself into the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile's throat.
Even though Wan Kang released his grip immediately, he was so terrified by the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile's actions that he stumbled backward. Just when Wan Kang thought his life was over, the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile did not take any further action.
"Eh? Why didn't it bite me?"
It was only because an unprecedented sensation rushed straight to the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile's brain, forcing even this lunge to stop midway, and it fell straight out of the air.
After the Sharp-Toothed Crocodile opened its large mouth, it stood in place, mouth wide open, shaking its head in an attempt to shake the mace out, but the result was... Every time it shook its head, not only was the weapon not shaken out, but it also brought a burning pain and a constant gush of fresh blood.
The anger dissipated from those brown crocodile pupils, replaced by a helpless panic.
"Woo... Woo!"
