92: Chapter 92 Unicorn Strategy

Time flew by; in the blink of an eye, another week passed. At the Xinyuan Capital office, Li Xin sat in the conference room with a thick stack of documents spread out before him. Li Jiayi sat opposite him, pen in hand, scribbling in her notebook.

"Mr. Li, the first phase of additional stock investments is progressing smoothly," Li Jiayi said, opening her folder. "We have already purchased $10 billion worth, with an average cost about 3% below the market price."

"Not bad," Li Xin nodded. "How are things going with the unicorns?"

Li Jiayi turned on the projector, and a table appeared on the screen.

"These are the four unicorns we originally invested in. Here is the current book value—"

Company | Investment Amount | Current Valuation | Book Value

ByteDance | $30 million | $30 billion | $82 million

DiDi | $20 million | $60 billion | $24 million

Meituan | $15 million | $50 billion | $25 million

DJI | $15 million | $20 billion | $30 million

"The total book value is approximately $161 million, with a floating profit of $81 million. Of course, none of these companies have gone public yet, so this is just calculated based on valuation."

Li Xin leaned back in his chair. "Now we need to make additional investments and layout new tracks."

"What is the budget?"

"40 billion RMB. About $5.7 billion."

Li Xin stood up and walked to the whiteboard. "Split into four tracks—Artificial Intelligence, New Energy, Medical Health, and Hard Tech."

He picked up a pen and wrote the table on the whiteboard.

❶ Artificial Intelligence Track (14 billion RMB, about $2 billion):

Project | Type | Amount

Intelligent Driving | Additional Investment | 4 billion

AI Chips | Additional Investment | 3 billion

Large Model Applications (Zhipu) | New Investment | 3 billion

Humanoid Robots (Unitree) | New Investment | 4 billion

❷ New Energy Track (10 billion RMB, about $1.43 billion):

Project | Type | Amount

Solid-state Batteries | Additional Investment | 4 billion

Hydrogen Energy | Additional Investment | 3 billion

Energy Storage Systems (Hithium Energy Storage) | New Investment | 3 billion

❸ Medical Health Track (8 billion RMB, about $1.14 billion):

Project | Type | Amount

Gene Editing (Bota Biosciences) | New Investment | 3 billion

Surgical Robots | Additional Investment | 2 billion

Innovative Drugs (BeiGene) | New Investment | 3 billion

Hard Tech Track (8 billion RMB, about $1.14 billion):

Project | Type | Amount

Commercial Aerospace (Galactic Energy) | New Investment | 4 billion

Quantum Computing (Origin Quantum) | New Investment | 2 billion

Semiconductors (Biren Technology) | New Investment | 2 billion

Li Xin threw the pen on the table and turned around.

"AI 14 billion, New Energy 10 billion, Medical 8 billion, Hard Tech 8 billion. A total of 40 billion."

Li Jiayi stared at the screen, her fingers typing rapidly on the keyboard.

"Mr. Li, out of these 16 companies, 4 are additional investments we've made before, and 12 are new. Added together, we have invested in a total of 20 unicorns."

"Correct," Li Xin sat back in his chair. "Invest in batches, with two to three phases for each company. Don't dump it all in at once."

"Understood."

The following week, Li Jiayi was busy running off her feet.

She led her team to negotiate with each one: Zhipu, Unitree, Hithium Energy Storage, Bota Biosciences, BeiGene, Galactic Energy, Origin Quantum, Biren Technology... For every single one, they had to conduct due diligence, negotiate valuations, and sign agreements.

Li Xin did not go personally. He only made the decisions, leaving the execution to Li Jiayi.

On Friday afternoon, Li Jiayi knocked on Li Xin's office door.

"Mr. Li, the first batch of investments has been signed."

She handed over a document.

"Zhipu, first phase 1 billion, 8% stake. Unitree, first phase 1.5 billion, 12% stake. Hithium Energy Storage, first phase 1 billion, 6% stake."

Li Xin took it and looked it over. "What about the others?"

"Signing will continue next week," Li Jiayi sat down. "Additionally, the additional investments for the two companies in intelligent driving and AI chips are already complete. Solid-state batteries and hydrogen energy as well."

"What about medical?"

"Bota Biosciences, first phase 1 billion, 5% stake. BeiGene, we bought 500 million in the secondary market, with costs controlled within an appropriate range. We added 1 billion to surgical robots."

Li Xin nodded. "And Hard Tech?"

"Galactic Energy, first phase 1.5 billion, 10% stake. Origin Quantum, first phase 500 million, 8% stake. Biren Technology, first phase 1 billion, 6% stake."

Li Jiayi closed the folder. "Currently, out of the 40 billion budget, 15 billion has been invested. The remaining 25 billion will be invested over the next three months."

"Good work." Li Xin stood up and walked to the window.

Outside the window, Shenzhen was filled with high-rises and dense traffic. The city was developing at lightning speed, and he was standing at the forefront of the wave.

"Li Jiayi, what is the outside world's opinion of Xinyuan Capital?"

Li Jiayi walked over and stood beside him. "They probably find it very mysterious; quite a few media outlets have been asking around recently."

"Let them guess," Li Xin smiled. "We just need to focus on our own business."

His phone vibrated. He picked it up and saw a system notification.

"Unicorn additional investment has been initiated. The first phase of 15 billion has been invested, and the remaining 25 billion will be completed in three months."

"Xinyuan Capital has invested in a cumulative total of 20 unicorn companies. Total valuation exceeds 50 billion RMB."

He closed the panel and put his phone into his pocket.

"Li Jiayi, I'm going to take a break for a while."

"Where are you going?"

"To hang out with the guys; we haven't had a drink together in a long time. Just to relax."

Then he silently thought to himself: "Of course, the other reason is to research the gold mines in Central Asia. After all, secretly mining gold is my main business; everything else is just fleeting clouds."

Li Jiayi glanced at him. "Okay, go have fun."

"Alright, you get back to work."

Li Xin turned around and picked up the car keys on the table.

"I leave the company's affairs to you. Call me if anything comes up."

"Okay."

He walked out of the office, paused at the door, and looked back. Li Jiayi was already sitting back at her computer, focusing on the screen.

The corners of his mouth curled up slightly, and he turned and left.

That night, Li Xin sat alone in the duplex penthouse at One Shenzhen Bay.

He held a wine glass and stood before the floor-to-ceiling window. Outside the window, in Shenzhen Bay, ships were moving on the sea, and lights were flashing. The distant mountains of Hong Kong were vaguely visible in the night.

His phone vibrated. A message from Li Jiayi.

"Mr. Li, we bought another 5 billion in the weekly additional stock investment, totaling 15 billion invested so far. As for the unicorns, five will close next week."

He replied with a "Good."

Then he opened the system panel.

He closed the panel and took a sip of wine.

The system was still repairing, and he didn't know how long it would take. But there was no rush now. The 28-kilometer detection range was enough. The Transfer Card was still lying in his inventory; he didn't know when it would be triggered.

He set down the wine glass, picked up his phone, and opened the map.

Central Asia.

Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan. There were gold mines in those places.

He marked a few locations on the map, then closed the phone.

The night outside was deep.

He turned over and pulled the quilt over his head.

He fell asleep quickly.
