84: How did I wake up to find myself in a trendy food street?

When it came to going out to eat, there weren't actually any restaurants in Su Yu's area, not even a few roadside stalls. On weekdays, he usually ordered takeout.

Today, he had a rare chance to go out, so he didn't choose to order takeout.

As noon approached, the streets were sparsely populated on a weekday.

There were no schools, no hospitals, and not even a commercial district around his rental apartment, which was why Su Yu had chosen to live there.

The lack of sufficient supporting facilities also indirectly meant that housing prices were very low there.

Before he officially started live streaming, his monthly salary was barely enough to maintain his basic daily life.

Although he was rich now, live streaming took up most of his time, so Su Yu hadn't yet had a chance to find a new place.

Pushing open the door and leaving the neighborhood, Su Yu was bewildered.

The previously deserted alley street was inexplicably bustling with activity.

Seven or eight mobile vendors occupied various empty spaces on the sidewalk. There were those selling jianbing guozi, stinky tofu, and even grilled starch sausages...?

What's going on?

He hadn't left his apartment for just two days, how did the street downstairs turn into a new trendy night market?

Su Yu's eyes widened, a look of surprise on his face.

He hadn't heard that the city government had renovated this area, so could it be that these suddenly appearing vendors had sniffed out some business opportunity?

The most important thing was that these guys clearly appeared as a team.

He remembered very clearly that there hadn't even been a vendor selling cold noodles outside his neighborhood before, but now so many stalls had appeared at once; he couldn't help but feel there was something amiss.

Su Yu strolled along the street, observing carefully.

Soon, he discovered that all these sudden mobile stalls had one thing in common—their carts were all brand new!

Generally speaking, roadside stalls pushed by carts, after enduring the elements, would show various signs of damage no matter how well they were protected. But these vendors' food carts were clearly brand new from the factory!

How strange.

While puzzled, Su Yu leisurely approached a jianbing guozi stall.

The stall owner was a Middle-aged Man in a blue long shirt, about forty years old, with a broad back and strong shoulders. Standing there, he looked like a giant Buddha, giving people a strange sense of security.

The man had an apron tied around his waist, but the apron was spotless, not even stained with a speck of flour.

“Boss, give me a jianbing guozi! Add pork floss and ham!”

Su Yu said, glancing at the stall.

The lettuce and various ingredients looked very fresh, so it seemed reasonably clean and hygienic.

The boss chuckled, revealing a reassuring expression. “No problem, Young man! I’ll make it for you right away.”

Hearing the boss agree, Su Yu couldn't help but look at him. He saw that the boss's hands were rough and calloused, and his waist was bulging, though he didn't know what was hidden there.

“Young man, do you want anything else?”

Seeing Su Yu stand in front of him and watch him make it, the Middle-aged Man seemed to get a little nervous, and his movements slowed down.

“No need, boss, you go ahead and make it. I’ll go check out what else other stalls have to eat.”

Su Yu took a deep breath, smelling the aroma of other delicacies in the air, and turned to walk towards another grilled starch sausage stall not far away.

It wasn't until Su Yu's figure had completely disappeared that the Middle-aged Man selling jianbing guozi finally breathed a sigh of relief.

However, with Su Yu's arrival, the owner of the grilled starch sausage stall tensed up again.

“Young man, do you want any grilled sausages? How many?”

Su Yu leaned closer, looked at the sausages in the griddle's grooves, and asked, puzzled.

“Boss, why don’t you score these sausages? If you grill them like this, the outside will be burnt, but the inside won't be hot enough, right?”

The boss awkwardly coughed twice and quickly explained.

“Cough, cough, cough, well, I must have been too busy just now and forgot.”

As he spoke, he took the starch sausages off the griddle and clumsily began to score them.

“Boss, it looks like you haven't scored any of these sausages.”

Su Yu glanced again, kindly reminding him.

The boss: ... Half a minute later, the boss finished scoring all the starch sausages on the griddle and wiped the sweat from his forehead.

“Young man, how many do you want?”

“These are grilled too much; I like the kind that’s just slightly golden on the outside.”

“Boss, could I trouble you to grill two more for me?”

The boss, resigned, had no choice but to take out two more from the cardboard box, unwrapped them in front of Su Yu, and put them back into the grooves.

Seeing the boss struggle to unwrap the packaging for a long time, Su Yu kindly reminded him.

“Boss, there's a vertical line on the starch sausage packaging. Tear off a little at the top, and you can pull it all the way down.”

The boss was completely drenched in sweat... Just like that, after Su Yu had visited all the snack stalls in the alley, he bought a variety of things and walked home, eating as he went.

On the way home, he genuinely felt that these vendors at his doorstep wouldn't last long.

Although the snacks at the stalls looked clean and hygienic, the key was that they didn't taste good!

The grilled starch sausages were either burnt or not cooked through inside.

For the jianbing guozi, he had only asked for a basic one without specifying anything, but the boss forcibly added four eggs, almost making it impossible to wrap the pancake.

The ice powder and cold shrimp were normal enough, it was just that the boss probably didn't want to add sugar, so it had no taste at all.

The most outrageous thing was the boss selling fried skewers; when he saw the oil was black, he immediately changed all of it! He was afraid of giving Su Yu an upset stomach.

Alright, alright!

Upon returning to the neighborhood entrance, Su Yu was suddenly stopped by the Gatekeeper Uncle.

“Young man, your name is Su Yu, right?”

Su Yu was taken aback.

Although he knew the Gatekeeper Uncle, they weren't actually close; they usually just greeted each other. But now, the other party had directly called out his name.

“What's wrong, Uncle? Is something up?”

The Gatekeeper Uncle looked serious.

“Young man, did you get into some trouble?!”

“Just now, several groups of people in uniform came, and it seems they were all looking for you.”

???

Looking for him?

Su Yu was a bit confused.

Why would they be looking for him? He had been resting at home for two days and hadn't gone anywhere, so what trouble could he have caused?

However, he did find the sudden appearance of the stalls at the entrance very strange.

“Uncle, I haven't gotten into trouble, don't worry.”

“But what's going on with these stalls at the entrance? There was nothing here before, why are there so many all of a sudden today?”

The Gatekeeper Uncle shook his head in confusion.

“I don't know where they came from either.”

“It seems that about two days ago, a stall suddenly appeared at the entrance.”

“Then more and more stalls appeared, until it’s like this now.”

“Oh, and Young man. I see you're holding something to eat, how is it? Does it taste good?”

Su Yu decisively shook his head, giving it a scathing review of three out of a perfect ten!

“Unless you're really starving, I recommend not eating it!”
