11: Aboriginals attacked the US military base, causing bloodshed again!
Colonel Phelps, observing from a high vantage point, saw the dense crowd gathering outside the base. His legs went weak, and he almost fell.
“How can there be so many people?”
“There must be tens of thousands, right?”
“Did all the Indigenous people of Darwin City come here?”
“No, looking at them, it’s not just Indigenous people; other races seem to be involved too.”
Colonel Phelps’s scalp tingled.
He could already sense that these people were here to demand accountability.
But the U.S. Military’s only direct involvement was the incident where that idiotic soldier violated an Indigenous girl.
Hadn’t that matter been settled?
He was pondering.
At the front of the procession, a group of people suddenly passed through the crowd and came forward.
This group was different from the others.
Every few of them carried a roughly made thin wooden coffin and held up an enlarged photo frame.
And there were more than twenty sets of these coffins and portraits!
“Huh?”
Colonel Phelps quickly looked through his binoculars and was stunned.
He clearly saw that those enlarged photo frames contained black-and-white portraits of the deceased.
And the people in the portraits were naturally inside the coffins being carried.
“Who are these deceased?”
“And why are they bringing the coffins to my base?”
While he was wondering, the signalman handed him the walkie-talkie.
“Colonel, the Chief of Police of Darwin City is on the phone and wants to speak with you personally.”
Colonel Phelps took the call, and after only a few sentences, he cried out in surprise.
“What?!”
“The Indigenous Party Headquarters was attacked by terrorists, and many high-ranking officials were killed. The protesters might think the perpetrators are from our base? What kind of joke is this—”
Soon after, Colonel Phelps saw the televised speech, witnessed the scene of armed thugs forcing their way into the venue and massacring the attendees, and saw the few people wearing camouflage military uniforms, as well as their general appearances.
He gasped.
“What’s going on?”
“Weren’t these the first batch of soldiers from the base who were granted leave and whom he personally met and instructed this morning?”
“How did they become terrorists?”
“Where did they get the firearms?”
Furthermore, if it were just one soldier carrying a gun and attacking, he would believe it. But to say that several people, belonging to different base units, possibly unfamiliar with each other, collectively and unanimously attacked the headquarters of a local party on their first day of leave.
That simply didn’t make sense.
Colonel Phelps quickly ordered his subordinates to investigate the people who had left the base that morning, only to learn that those individuals had not returned and had made no contact.
His heart sank.
The shouts from the crowd outside the base startled him awake.
Colonel Phelps quickly ordered, “Close the base gates tightly, maintain strict vigilance, and absolutely do not let the base be breached!”
Regardless of the reason, a U.S. military base represents U.S. Military power.
If the base were breached, the U.S. Military’s prestige worldwide would suffer a major blow—
Thus, under full mobilization, the base implemented the highest level of protection, with the main gate heavily guarded.
Many people, armed and ready, stood at their combat positions, holding their breath as they stared outside the base.
After giving the order, Colonel Phelps also urgently contacted the Darwin City government, requesting their mediation.
Not only that, but the Pentagon also needed to be reported to immediately.
Just as a storm was brewing, another unexpected development occurred.
Perhaps because the base was tightly closed, the people in the protest felt slighted, and their anger became uncontrollable. Many began throwing pebbles, rotten eggs, and other trash towards the gate.
Suddenly, a homemade Molotov cocktail hit the main gate of the base, and flames spread out.
The burning flames instantly ignited the crowd’s emotions.
Many, spurred on by a certain slogan, collectively charged forward.
Emotions are contagious.
When the front of the crowd surged forward, the back of the crowd naturally pressed forward.
Tens of thousands of people, like an unstoppable flood, quickly surged to the base gate.
Then many people grabbed the base’s retractable gate and shook it vigorously.
This scene terrified the soldiers defending near the gate. If the gate were breached and these tens of thousands of people rushed in, the entire base would be finished.
Fortunately, the base’s gate was clearly of good quality.
Until someone actually tried to climb over by stepping on others’ shoulders.
And soon, three or four people climbed over the gate and jumped inside the base.
“Fire warning shots, fire warning shots—”
As the highest-ranking officer of the base, Colonel Phelps had no choice but to give the order.
So someone quickly fired warning shots into the air, hoping to scare away the climbers.
But unfortunately, after the first group of people broke into the base, the crowd was already in a frenzy.
They couldn’t hear the gunshots; they only knew to keep pushing forward.
So more people climbed into the base.
And even so, Colonel Phelps actually didn’t intend to use force.
But someone fired a rogue shot.
A U.S. Military soldier on duty at a high observation post was shot, swayed, fell from the height, and landed with a thud.
Blood splattered everywhere.
This opened Pandora’s Box.
The soldiers guarding the base were already on edge, and now with a comrade dead, their fingers immediately tightened, and triggers were pulled.
Tat-tat-tat, many bullets were fired.
The protesters who had just broken into the base and hadn’t yet posed any threat were riddled with bullets.
It’s over,
It’s completely over.
Seeing this out-of-control scene, Colonel Phelps’s vision went black.
Both the dignity of the U.S. and his personal career were finished.
It’s unclear how long the killing and conflict lasted.
Several tear gas canisters were thrown in, emitting large amounts of smoke that was pungent and stinging, causing many to painfully kneel, weep, and cough.
Meanwhile, outside the base, a large number of police cars and high-pressure water cannon trucks appeared.
Darwin City’s security forces had arrived collectively.
When this tragic and absurd day finally ended, what remained on the ground was a lot of bloodstains to be cleaned, and the belongings of the deceased.
—
Evening.
At the Indigenous Party Headquarters, Deputy Party Leader Tula Suo was alone in his office, his mind complex.
It was too out of control.
He had organized this city-wide protest today intending only to create public opinion and momentum, to give the Indigenous Party an absolute advantage in the mayoral election, and to gain bargaining chips with the city government.
He had never intended to violently assault the U.S. military base.
After all, it was a U.S. military base.
Even if he hated it, he wouldn’t dare to attack it.
So, how exactly did today’s events unfold?
Tula Suo couldn’t figure out the details of the incident no matter how hard he tried.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
“Come in—”
Tula Suo impatiently spoke, thinking it was an assistant or something.
To his surprise, the person who entered startled him greatly.
It was a man completely wrapped in black, wearing a smiling mask.
