116: Alice Springs hit by terrorist attack

Alice Springs, late at night.

Boom, boom, boom—

Sudden cannon blasts echoed, shocking the ears.

Many residents of Alice Springs were awakened and immediately went outside to see.

Once outside, everyone's mouths hung open, and boundless panic covered their entire bodies.

“War, war, war has broken out—”

They saw that in the night, many shells were rising into the sky along the trajectories of tracer rounds, falling into the town, and exploding violently upon impact.

Craters were blasted into the concrete roads, and dirt and debris splattered.

Many trees were snapped in half, their branches and leaves scorched and smoking.

Cars on the street blared their sirens due to the explosions, and fires broke out in many places. People scrambled to flee their rooms, fearing their houses would collapse and bury them.

Everyone was stunned.

What was happening?

Why were so many shells suddenly falling into the town?

Who was attacking the town?!!

No one answered them; many were on the verge of tears.

Fortunately, after several rounds of concentrated artillery fire, it finally stopped.

The mayor of Alice Springs quickly made calls, trying to contact the outside world, but couldn't get through. Mobile phones had no service, and landlines were dead.

The only remaining option was to send people from the town to investigate what was happening.

Before they could find a usable vehicle, a huge roar came from above their heads.

Everyone quickly looked up and saw many Chinook transport helicopters appearing overhead. The helicopters' searchlights illuminated the ground below.

Then these helicopters landed, their rear ramps opened, and many fully armed soldiers emerged with guns.

This scene immediately reminded many people that a similar incident had occurred less than a month ago.

But that time there was no shelling; it was just the Anti-War Army discarding U.S. Military prisoners and corpses.

Could it be that these soldiers were also from the Anti-War Army this time?

No residents dared to step forward and question them, except for the mayor.

“I am the mayor of the town, may I ask who you are—”

The mayor approached those people, and before he could finish speaking, bang—

A bullet struck the mayor directly between the eyebrows. The mayor swayed, then fell backward, his eyes wide open in death.

The townspeople froze, then screamed like slaughtered pigs the next moment.

“Murder! The mayor has been killed—”

People scattered like frightened rabbits.

These soldiers completely ignored the fleeing townspeople, as if watching clowns running in vain.

Then, not long after, as these townspeople were about to flee the town, rat-a-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat—

To the sound of machine guns, large numbers of residents were mowed down like wheat. The fleeing residents then realized that there was an ambush outside the town, and going out meant certain death.

They had no choice but to run back.

So, eventually, they ran back to where they started.

At this moment, facing these terrified townspeople, one person who looked like an officer among those who had disembarked from the Chinooks spoke into a megaphone:

“Listen, we are the First Division, Third Infantry Regiment of the Anti-War People's Army. Alice Springs has now been surrounded by us. We are requisitioning this area; Alice Springs will henceforth be the territory of the Anti-War Army!”

“Anyone who dares to disobey orders or resist us will be killed without mercy—”

All the townspeople were stunned.

It really was the Anti-War Army?

But why would the Anti-War Army use such barbaric and violent means to seize the town?

But no one dared to ask another word.

—

Fang Le was awakened around one or two in the morning.

Yue Hanshan reported urgently:

“Commander, an hour ago, our outposts deployed on the outer perimeter of the mountains detected abnormalities in Alice Springs. It seems there was a battle, an invasion.”

“It's quiet there again now, and we don't know the exact situation.”

Fang Le was bewildered.

What did he mean?

Alice Springs was invaded?

Alice Springs was famous, but its military strategic value was only so-so.

Logically, no matter who it was, coveting that place was unnecessary.

Who could have done it?

Fang Le: “Let's first conduct a self-check on our side to see if any units acted privately without orders.”

“After ruling that out, send a reconnaissance team to approach and scout the town. Be careful not to be discovered, and if anything seems wrong, retreat immediately.”

Yue Hanshan nodded.

Afterward, Fang Le lay back down on the bed, but he still felt something was off.

Suddenly, he sat up from the bed.

The American military had finally made their move.

Early that morning, Yue Hanshan waited outside Fang Le's residence.

“Leader, the American military is finally going to make their move.”

Fang Le sneered.

I was afraid you wouldn't make a move.

It saves me the trouble.
