123: The Anti-Japanese Army launched a large-scale night attack
As night fell, the entire MacDonnell Ranges sank into silence.
Unexpectedly, a place that was originally just a large rock had the rock move, revealing a hole from which some dark figures emerged.
After these dark figures came out, they took out climbing equipment, fixed grappling hooks into the rock crevices, and rappelled down along the steel cables.
More than ten people landed on the valley floor below, each carrying a backpack.
They stealthily advanced a short distance before stopping.
Just ahead in the canyon, a hundred meters away, a U.S. Military encampment appeared, with soldiers on patrol.
Under the hand signals of their leader, these people opened their backpacks and took out some folded items, which turned out to be small rotor drones.
Then they hung some bombs on the drones' racks and used remote controls to send more than ten drones into the air.
The drones ascended vertically to a height of fifty or sixty meters, where their flight sounds were barely audible, before flying forward.
The distance of over a hundred meters was quickly covered.
Shortly after these drones flew, an alarm went off at the camp ahead.
Clearly, the drones had been discovered by the American military's radar, and the people in the tents began to move.
But it was already too late.
The small drones dropped their bombs prematurely.
Within a few seconds, explosions and fires erupted throughout the entire camp area.
It turned out that not only bombs were dropped, but also accompanying accelerants, which ignited and set the tents on fire.
The entire camp was in chaos, with soldiers busy putting out fires and firing indiscriminately at places where they thought the American military was.
Meanwhile, the small drones were returning from the air.
The dozen or so people quickly recovered the drones, folded them, and put them back into their backpacks.
The leader uttered one word: “Go—”
They quickly ran back the way they came, soon reaching the base of the cliff, then climbed up the ropes, and finally, returned to their original point of appearance, the large rock, entered the hole, and the large rock moved, closing it again.
After entering the hiding spot inside the mountain, 3rd Platoon Leader Huang Yanbing pulled down his mask and communicated using a walkie-talkie.
“Hu Zi, how did your mission go?”
After a crackling sound, the reply came: “We’ve blown up the half-built hillside fortifications of the American military with high explosives.”
Huang Yanbing: “Very good… you weren’t pursued, were you?”
The other end: “How could that be?”
Huang Yanbing was about to look for the next U.S. Military encampment or fortification to launch a sneak attack and sabotage, when a new voice cut into his single-soldier radio.
“This is Luo Hui, Commander of the First Division. Is Huang Yanbing, 3rd Platoon Leader, there?”
Huang Yanbing quickly responded: “I am Huang Yanbing, please speak.”
Luo Hui: “We’re giving your 3rd Platoon a high-difficulty mission. This mission will have significant risks, but the command center will assign you some high-combat-power assistants.”
“Do you dare to accept?”
Huang Yanbing: “I will follow all organizational arrangements.”
Luo Hui: “Very good, the mission details have been transmitted to you using encrypted means. Execute immediately upon reception.”
The communication ended, and Huang Yanbing’s personal terminal on his wrist quickly received the encrypted command content. After decrypting it, he couldn’t help but be surprised.
This mission… is it really that difficult?
But fearing difficulty was not Huang Yanbing’s style.
Huang Yanbing quickly adjusted his mindset and reconnected with Hu Zi.
“Hu Zi, Hu Zi, stop the harassment plan. There’s a new mission. You take the other half of 3rd Platoon and go along the D1-E3-O2 line to point O and await orders. I will rendezvous with you there.”
“Hu Zi”: “Understood.”
The so-called points D, E, O, etc., were markings used by the Anti-War Army for various locations within the mountainous area.
Between each marked point, there were interconnected hidden routes, including cliffs that could be ascended and descended, or secret passages within the mountains.
After giving the order, Huang Yanbing led his half, 15 people, along the route that led to point O.
Throughout their journey, although they often did not appear outside, he could hear explosions, gunshots, shouts, and even artillery fire and the movement of fighter jets from various locations.
This was because the Anti-War Army had dispatched many combat teams that night, with the mission of night raids, harassment, and destruction of U.S. Military camps stationed in the mountains and various ongoing construction projects.
Huang Yanbing and his group arrived at point O very smoothly.
And looking at the overall map, this point O was already quite close to the U.S. Military’s front line deployment.
Soon, Huang Yanbing and Hu Zi’s group rendezvoused.
Hu Zi and the others couldn't help but grumble.
What kind of special mission needed to start so close to the U.S. Military’s defensive line?
“Boss, what’s next?”
Huang Yanbing: “Wait—”
The mission mentioned that they needed to wait at point O first and then rendezvous with some “high-combat-power assistants.”
He didn't know what kind of assistants those would be.
Then, from a distance overhead, there was the sound of rotating rotor blades. Huang Yanbing and the others looked up and saw three helicopters flying over from the direction of the deep mountains.
Although called helicopters, they were actually smaller than typical military helicopters and their shape was slightly different.
After the helicopters reached their location, a long rope was lowered.
Someone was rapidly descending along the rope, while objects with parachutes were also directly airdropped.
Huang Yanbing was delighted: Aid had arrived.
Those descending by rope must be the collaborators for this mission, and those airdropped by parachute must be supplies and equipment.
But this joy only lasted for half a moment.
The three helicopters had been detected by the American military’s early warning radar and locked on by fire control radar, and then several anti-aircraft missiles with tail flames were launched, hitting the helicopter fuselages directly.
The helicopters exploded in mid-air, or their rotors were damaged, causing them to spin and fall, soon crashing to the ground with a bang.
Huang Yanbing was startled and quickly said: “Quickly go to rescue—”
But Huang Yanbing no longer held out hope.
The helicopter pilots would surely die, and those mission collaborators who had not yet descended from the ropes and fell with them would most likely also die.
But when Huang Yanbing and the others arrived at the crashed helicopter, they were stunned.
