154: Chapter 154 Whale Fall Begins
Magistrate Wang Rengui released Magistrate Sun Feng's collar, stepped back, and snorted coldly.
His terrifying bear head huffed with anger that could barely be suppressed.
As the magistrate of Yongning County, he naturally didn't care about the common people of Yongning County.
After all, he himself was gluttonous, grabbing a few people from the county town every now and then for a snack.
As a result, the county town of Yongning County never experienced traffic jams.
The reason he was so furious was that he couldn't accept a drop in incense offerings!
Because of his gluttony, Magistrate Wang Rengui's incense offerings were already thinner than those of the other three demon magistrates.
Now with the locust plague and so many commoners fleeing, those who remained had no heart to offer incense, causing his incense offerings to plunge off a cliff.
If this continued, he feared he would soon be corrupted by the evil energy of this world due to a lack of incense!
This was the real reason behind his rage.
"Sun Feng."
Magistrate Wang Rengui stared at him, the fury in his bear eyes mixed with sinister coldness.
"If my incense offerings stop, you won't have a good time either. You know what I'll do."
Magistrate Sun Feng leaned against the wall, rubbing his neck without saying a word.
Magistrate Luo Tang of Qingxi County walked over, glanced between Magistrate Wang Rengui and Magistrate Sun Feng, and spoke up.
"Brother Wang, we are all demons here. Why make things so absolute?"
Beside them, Magistrate Zheng Yang of Pingshun County nodded in agreement.
"Indeed. We are all demons serving under Prefect Yin, constantly running into each other. If Prefect Yin finds out about such a scene, wouldn't it be an embarrassment?"
Magistrate Wang Rengui gave a cold laugh, sat down in a chair, picked up a teacup, and took a sip.
"You make it sound so easy."
He set down the teacup, his gaze sweeping from Magistrate Luo Tang's face to Magistrate Zheng Yang's.
He knew these two colleagues said so simply because it didn't affect them directly.
However, that wouldn't be the case for long~
"The locust swarm isn't just staying in my Yongning County anymore. Some have already flown into Qingxi County, and Pingshun County has them too."
Magistrate Wang Rengui said indifferently.
Upon hearing this, Magistrate Luo Tang and Magistrate Zheng Yang's expressions changed instantly.
Magistrate Luo Tang turned to Magistrate Sun Feng, his voice raising a notch.
"Sun Feng, what is wrong with you? As a Locust Demon, you can't even manage your own offspring?"
Magistrate Zheng Yang's tone was even harsher.
"If you can't control the locusts, why bother causing trouble! Now look, the locusts have flown onto our territory—what happens to our incense offerings?"
The two chimed in one after another, completely discarding the mild-mannered demeanor they had when advising Magistrate Wang Rengui not to make things too tense earlier.
Magistrate Sun Feng rubbed his neck, waiting until the voices of the three finally quieted down before speaking.
"Fine, I will clean up this mess."
He paused, speaking in a complaining tone.
"Who could have guessed that Lord Qinling truly possessed divine power? I thought that light barrier was just trickery."
"Who knew it could actually cover every village in Guanhai County, preventing my offspring from posing any threat to the people there."
After saying this, Magistrate Sun Feng of Pingchang County flicked his sleeve and left the private room.
He had far too many matters to attend to.
...
On the other side.
The Eastward Expedition Team had spent several days in the trench and finally understood the situation clearly.
Throughout the trench, First-Turn and Second-Turn lesser demons were the most numerous, crammed into the smallest caves.
There were also quite a few Third-Turn demons; though they could claim an entire sea territory outside, here they could only honestly dwell in slightly larger caves.
The three largest caves in the whole trench were located at the deepest part of the trench wall.
The cave entrances were wide, and the interiors were deep and bottomless.
Living inside were three Fourth-Turn major demons.
The Eastward Expedition Team inquired for a long time before figuring out their titles.
A Fourth-Turn Oarfish, a Fourth-Turn Giant Squid, and a Fourth-Turn Hammerhead Shark.
Once that Level-5 Whale Demon died and the Whale Fall began, the best portions would undoubtedly belong to these three major demons, while the rest of the demons could only eat the leftovers.
The five demons of the Eastward Expedition Team crouched at their cave entrance, watching the three pitch-black caves deep within the trench.
Mantis Shrimp crouched at the cave entrance, its compound eyes darting around to take in the situation in the trench.
Blue Crab lay beside it, claws tucked in front of its body.
Sea Turtle extended its head from its shell, its vertical pupils fixed on the three largest caves.
Starfish was clinging tightly to Mantis Shrimp's back.
Bengbu lay on Mantis Shrimp's back with its shell slit half-open, its eyes fixed on the three pitch-black caves in the depths of the trench.
Just then, there was movement deep in the trench.
Ordinarily, the three Fourth-Turn major demons in the three largest caves hardly ever stuck their heads out.
They mostly nestled in their respective caves, ignoring one another and rarely even letting their aura leak out.
They were all waiting for the exact same thing: for that Level-5 Whale Demon to die, and for it to sink down.
But at this very moment, all three major demons peeked their heads out of their caves almost simultaneously.
Giant Squid's arms stretched out from the cave entrance, thick and long tentacles slowly swaying in the seawater, suckers opening and closing;
Hammerhead Shark's hammer-like head emerged from the darkness, two eyes positioned on either side with pupils narrowed to thin slits;
Oarfish swam half its body out of the cave, its long, silvery-white trunk gleaming with a cold light in the gloom.
Its dorsal fin was like a crest, a crimson crest quivering gently atop its head.
All three Fourth-Turn major demons looked up above the trench at the same time.
The five demons of the Eastward Expedition Team crouched at their cave entrance, taken aback by this sudden disturbance.
Following the gazes of the three major demons, they raised their heads and saw the Level-5 Whale Demon that had been wandering slowly above the trench for who knows how many days.
It had stopped.
The Whale Demon had been circling lazily above the trench all this time.
Now it stopped, hovering directly above the trench, its colossal body like a floating mountain.
A deathly aura emanated from it as its mountain-like body began to slowly sink with the seawater.
Bengbu's shell gap widened abruptly, its eyes staring wide open at the Whale Demon.
Its lifespan was finally coming to an end.
The Whale Fall was about to begin!
Following the Fourth-Turn major demons, the rest of the trench's lesser demons also realized this.
The lesser demons immediately fell into a commotion.
Some poked their heads out of caves, some swam out from coral reef crevices, and some burrowed out from the sand.
Looking up with raised heads at the Whale Demon suspended above the trench, a gleam shone in their eyes.
Giant Squid's arms fully extended out from the cave, ten arms spreading open in the seawater like a flower in full bloom.
Hammerhead Shark swam out of its cave, its massive body appearing inside the trench.
Oarfish slid its entire body out of the cave, its long, silvery-white trunk tracing an arc through the gloom.
The five demons of the Eastward Expedition Team cowered at the cave entrance, not daring to act rashly.
After all, with three Fourth-Turn major demons in the trench, Third-Turn demons like them were naturally in no position to move recklessly.
They still had to see how those three Fourth-Turn major demons would react.
Bengbu lay on Mantis Shrimp's back, its eyes peering outward.
It felt the deathly aura growing thicker, pressing down from above the trench.
The Whale Fall was finally about to begin!
