28: Chapter 28 Second Transformation of a Clam Spirit

A few Cone Snails had been pierced into skewers by Qin Mo's spear, their juices mixing with the rainwater and seeping into the mud at the entrance of the village.

He wiped the rainwater from his face and turned back to grin at his elder sister.

"Sister, I've killed eleven Cone Snails!"

Qin Yin nodded slightly, her long saber pointing diagonally at the ground as rainwater dripped in streams down the blade.

Her breathing had already steadied, and her gaze still scanned her surroundings vigilantly.

The bobbing fishing boats by the dock and the blurred coastline in the rain curtain.

Everything seemed to have quieted down.

However, this quiet was truly somewhat eerie!

She did not notice that on the shallows outside the village, pockmarked with countless white dots from the hammering rain, a giant sea clam was quietly parting a narrow slit.

Within that slit was only a single eye, as cold as a stagnant pool of dead water.

This Clam Spirit had been lurking here for a while.

It was not in a hurry to make a move, instead quietly observing the two humans.

Until it was certain that these two humans posed no threat to it, it prepared to make a move.

At this moment, Qin Mo was placing the Cone Snails from his spear onto the campfire, attempting to roast them.

"Roasted Cone Snails are my favorite to eat~"

At that very instant, the clam shell of the Clam Spirit on the shallows abruptly opened wide.

An invisible ripple quietly arrived from the direction of the shallows, instantly enveloping the brother and sister.

The pupils of Qin Yin and Qin Mo turned pale white.

The Clam Spirit pulled both siblings into an illusion.

Qin Mo's world changed abruptly.

He stood in a room shrouded in warm light, with a sweet, cloying fragrance floating in the air.

Before his eyes stood a woman with delicate moth-like eyebrows and captivating eyes, her cloud-like hair lightly coiled, looking at him with a smile.

"Qin Mo."

Her vermilion lips parted lightly, her voice as soft as if soaked in honey.

"You must be tired, right?"

"Who are you?"

Qin Mo spoke, hearing the sound of his own voice, as drifting and ethereal as somniloquy.

The woman did not answer, only extending her long legs toward him, her little feet as glossy and white as jade.

Qin Mo's hand involuntarily raised itself.

At the same time.

In another illusion.

What Qin Yin faced was a man.

This man had sword-like brows and star-like eyes, an upright posture, wore a set of dark profound martial attire, and carried a long saber at his waist.

He stood at the bow of the ship, with a cloudless clear sky and sparkling blue sea behind him.

He reached out his hand to Qin Yin.

"Yin'er, I am a man who wants to become the Pirate King. Do you want to become the Pirate King's woman?"

The man slowly pulled open his dark profound attire, revealing full pectoral muscles and eight-pack abs.

Qin Yin looked at him.

She saw those sword-like brows, those star-like eyes, and that upright posture.

She only looked for half a breath.

Then she tightened her grip on her saber.

"Yin'er?"

That man called out once more, his brows slightly furrowed as if in incomprehension.

Qin Yin did not answer; she took a step forward, and then——

Swung her saber!

The long saber cleanly and neatly severed the hand reaching out toward her, shattered that handsome face, and split apart the cloudless, vast sea.

The illusion peeled away piece by piece like shattered glazed glass.

The sound of rain rushed back instantly.

Qin Yin knelt on one knee, her long saber propping up the ground as she panted heavily.

Her face was pale, and the veins on her temples faintly bulged; clearly, breaking free from the illusion was not as effortless as that single saber swing made it look.

She raised her head, her gaze catching the giant sea clam slowly opening in the direction of the shallows.

The clam shell silently opened a bit more, and that ruthless eye coldly sized her up from the slit.

There was a trace of incomprehension within the eye.

It could not understand—how could a mere First-Turn martial artist break free from its illusion?

It was a genuine Second-Turn monster, after all!

This kind of First-Turn martial artist should have drowned in its illusion!

Qin Yin glanced at Qin Mo's distorted pupils beside her; she knew Qin Mo was still trapped in the illusion.

She gripped her saber tightly once again.

Perhaps slaying the Clam Spirit before her would allow Qin Mo to extricate himself from the illusion.

Just the moment she was about to pounce forward.

The rain stopped.

A gust of strong wind blew away the rainwater.

Qin Yin could feel an incomparably familiar gaze cross over the entire village and fall upon this patch of shallows.

The ruthless eye within the clam shell abruptly constricted.

It sensed it.

What was that?

This pressure...

How could there be a Third-Turn powerhouse existing in this rundown village?!

It desperately closed its clam shell, wanting to shrink back into the sea.

But it was already too late.

A golden light streaked out from the direction of the temple.

The next instant, that golden light was already suspended above the Clam Spirit.

Following closely, a strand of divine power, condensed to the point of near tangibility, descended.

"Crack——"

The incomparably tough clam shell was as fragile as a shortbread cookie before that divine power.

Cracks spread wildly in all directions from the point where the light landed, filling half the shell's surface in the blink of an eye.

The Clam Spirit emitted a sharp hiss.

It desperately urged its demonic power, attempting to repair its outer shell, but it was completely meaningless.

The strength of that divine power was simply not something it, a mere Second-Turn, could bear.

"Spare my life! Spare my life!"

The hiss turned into a trembling plea for mercy.

A deeper crack split open on the clam shell, and that previously cold and indifferent eye now held only fear.

"This humble demon is blind and failed to realize you were here; please spare this humble demon's life~"

The golden light paused slightly.

Qin Ling did not rush to kill the Clam Spirit.

Instead, he turned his head to look at Qin Yin and Qin Mo.

He had hurried over only after capturing the commotion of the Clam Spirit casting its illusionary demonic arts.

But what he hadn't expected was that Qin Yin had actually broken free from the illusion in such a short amount of time.

Qin Ling's divine sense suddenly split off an extremely thin strand of thread, silently sinking into the center of Qin Mo's brow.

After a few breaths.

Qin Mo's whole body trembled, and the bewilderment in his eyes receded like a tide.

His face turned alternately green and pale as he panted heavily.

"Sister!"

His voice drifted, and his small face flushed red as if recalling what had just happened.

"Just now I..."

Qin Yin did not look back; her gaze remained fixed on the golden light suspended above the Clam Spirit.

She sheathed her saber, knelt on one knee, and lowered her head.

That strand of thread crawled out from the center of Qin Mo's brow, returning once again to Qin Ling's hand.

With this, Qin Ling also became aware of the scene in Qin Mo's illusion just now.

And he also knew which aspect this illusion pertained to.

Since what was in Qin Mo's illusion was a beautiful woman, then what was in Qin Yin's illusion should be a handsome man.

But how did Qin Yin manage to break free from the illusion in such a short time?

He didn't understand either.

The Clam Spirit's strength was considerably greater than Qin Yin's!

However, Qin Ling did not dwell too much on this question; more important right now was dealing with this Clam Spirit.

He did not have the thought of killing the opponent immediately.

After all, the East Sea had been so unpeaceful recently; there must be some reason for it.

Perhaps this Clam Spirit might know something.

The next moment.

Qin Ling grabbed the Clam Spirit and transformed into a streak of golden light, returning once again to the temple.

Entering the temple, Qin Ling tossed the Clam Spirit onto the stone slab and coldly questioned it.

"You little demon, how dare you come ashore to plague the fishing village under My protection?"

Before Qin Ling's coercion, the Clam Spirit felt every shred of its demonic soul trembling.

It knew its life and death rested solely in a single thought of the other party, not daring to conceal the slightest bit as it tried its utmost to squeeze out a broken plea for mercy.

"Spare my life, spare my life, this humble demon did not mean to offend; it's truly because I can no longer stay in the sea!"
