58: Chapter 58 The Novel Qin Family Village
Pei Se felt a handful of copper coins from her bosom and placed them on the top of the wall.
Pulling out the gourd stopper, she took another gulp.
The liquor rolled down her throat, and the grain-sweetened breath dispersed in her mouth as she let out a long breath.
Then she chased after those two martial artists.
"Hold on, the two of you."
She blocked the path of the two martial artists, still clutching her wine gourd, with her face flushed from the alcohol.
Her eyes sized up the two young people up and down.
The ones blocked by Pei Se were naturally the sister and brother, Qin Yin and Qin Mo.
The two looked inexplicably at the woman who had suddenly popped up before them.
Pei Se didn't care about their gazes and spoke on her own accord.
"You two are martial artists, right? First-Turn Late-Stage, being able to have this cultivation level at this age is not easy."
She hung the wine gourd around her waist, crossed her arms over her chest, and wore a certainty of "I have a very accurate eye for people."
"Are you from Guanhai County City?"
"No."
Qin Mo shook his head.
The smile on Pei Se's face froze for a moment.
"Then are you passing by from another county city?"
"What kind of nonsense is that?"
Qin Mo looked puzzled.
"We are people of Qin Family Village, born and raised here."
Pei Se was stunned in place.
She looked around the desolate village once more.
Not a county city, but this remote village?
In this remote fishing village by the sea, two First-Turn Late-Stage youths turned up?
Her face became even redder from thinking.
Being born with enough blood qi to qualify as a martial artist is not surprising.
But lacking resources, lacking cultivation methods, lacking guidance, and progressing slowly after becoming a martial artist is the normal state.
But the two martial artists before her were already First-Turn Late-Stage Martial Artists.
At this age, in such a place where they lacked everything, it was already quite outrageous!
Pei Se took a deep breath, suppressed those messy thoughts, and spoke.
"Do you know the Demon Slayer Association?"
Qin Yin and Qin Mo shook their heads.
The corner of Pei Se's mouth twitched, but she still patiently said,
"The Demon Slayer Association is an organization specialized in slaying demons and eliminating devils. Inside, there are martial arts experts, top-tier cultivation methods, and spiritual elixirs."
"I am a Third-turn Martial Artist in the Demon Slayer Association."
She paused, looked into the eyes of Qin Yin and Qin Mo, and continued.
"I see that the two of you are martial arts talents, it's a pity to huddle up in this small village."
"Come with me to the Demon Slayer Association, and I will recommend you. Cultivation methods, pills, guidance—you can have whatever you want."
"In the future, your path of martial arts can go much farther than you can imagine."
After speaking, Pei Se crossed her arms in front of her chest and waited.
She waited for Qin Yin and Qin Mo to nod impatiently.
Waiting for them to be moved to tears, waiting for them to ask "When are we leaving?"
How could any martial artist in a small village not be excited upon seeing a sympathetic Third-turn Martial Artist like her?
Qin Yin and Qin Mo exchanged a glance.
Qin Yin shook her head and said,
"No need."
Pei Se had misheard.
"What?"
"My sister said no need."
Qin Mo repeated it.
Pei Se's smile completely froze.
She looked at this pair of martial artist sister and brother wearing coarse cloth clothes, looking at the expressions on their faces without a ripple of emotion.
It was as if her speech just now was nothing more than a fart.
How could this be?
It makes no sense!
Pei Se opened her mouth, still wanting to say something.
But at this time, Qin Yin and Qin Mo had already bypassed her and continued walking forward.
Qin Yin and Qin Mo did not walk very fast.
Pei Se bit her red lips with her silver teeth and followed.
There were too many strange things in this Qin Family Village, and she couldn't just let these two young martial artists waste their years here.
Cooking smoke rose from the low roofs, appearing exceptionally quiet in the windless evening.
Pei Se followed behind the two, passing through a narrow alley, turning a corner, and the view suddenly opened up.
A temple abruptly appeared before her.
It was not big, but not small either.
The courtyard wall was built of stones, with a few clusters of sea hibiscus growing in the gaps.
Several pots of wildflowers were placed at the base of the wall, blooming just right, purple and white squeezed together, obviously watered by someone every day.
The stone steps at the temple entrance were worn smooth and shiny, the marks left by countless pairs of feet stepping on them repeatedly.
Qin Yin and Qin Mo crossed the threshold.
Hesitating for a moment, Pei Se also followed inside.
The temple was brighter than she imagined.
Several offerings were placed on the offering table.
A few dried fish, a small bag of brown rice, a bunch of wildflowers, and a bowl of rice wine, with the jar mouth sealed with red cloth.
The incense sticks in the censer had burned more than half, and blue smoke curled upwards.
Qin Yin and Qin Mo knelt on the futons, lit the incense sticks, inserted them into the censer, stepped back a step, and kowtowed.
The movements were very skilled, obviously having come countless times before.
Pei Se stood at the entrance of the divine temple, looking at the divine statue inside.
The wood carving was crude, and the knife work was simple.
It was no different from the divine statues in other desolate village wild temples.
Engraved on the spirit tablet below the divine statue were a few blurred words—
"Lord Qinling".
She remembered what the old man who sold her wine said.
"Our village has the protection of Lord Qinling, boats can go out to sea, fish can fill the cabin, life can go on, and only then do we have surplus grain to brew wine."
Could it be that the changes in this village are really related to this divine temple?
Pei Se's gaze moved away from the divine statue and fell on the offering table.
There were a few scales there.
A few silver-white scales quietly lay in the center of the offering table, alongside those dried fish, brown rice, and wildflowers.
But the moment she saw these scales, Pei Se's pupils suddenly contracted.
She was at the Third-turn peak, only a step away from the Fourth-Turn.
Therefore, she recognized at a single glance that the scales on this offering table were the scales of a Fourth-Turn dragon species!
Pei Se had seen dragon scales before, in the secret treasury of the Demon Slayer Association.
Those were three scales left behind by a Tier 4 wicked dragon slain by former martial artists of the Demon Slayer Association.
She had the fortune to see them once, and the aura on those scales made her whole body stiffen.
Now, in this broken temple, before this crude divine statue, she actually saw the same thing!
A look of astonishment flashed in Pei Se's eyes.
Earlier, she still felt that Qin Family Village having grain to brew wine was a novelty.
Now it seemed that compared to the two First-Turn Late-Stage Martial Artists and the dragon scales on the offering table of the divine statue, having grain to brew wine was nothing at all!
What other novel things were there in this Qin Family Village?
"You are a passerby, when are you leaving the village?"
Qin Yin, who had finished offering incense, turned back to look at Pei Se.
"I want to stay in Qin Family Village for a few more days, and I can pay."
Pei Se lifted the money bag at her waist and smiled.
There were so many novel things in this Qin Family Village, she couldn't bear to just leave like this.
"Alright then, but don't disturb the villagers too much."
Qin Yin frowned.
According to her temper, she would want to drive Pei Se away.
After all, she was an outsider, and one could never know the other's intentions.
But earlier Pei Se had also directly said she was a Third-turn Martial Artist, so obviously the driving-away method wouldn't work.
She and Qin Mo, two First-Turn Late-Stage Martial Artists, weren't even enough to fill the gap between a Third-turn Martial Artist's teeth.
However, Qin Yin was not too worried about Pei Se.
Qin Family Village still had Lord Qinling around!
