34: Chapter 34 Seven Fiends Demon-Slaying Sword
Slender and spanning a full sixty feet, this light-sword hovered before him, slowly spinning in silence.
Seven malevolent runes coiled around the blade, flickering in and out of sight.
It worked!
Qin Ling stared at the sword for a long time.
Then, he moved.
His right hand casually reached for the hilt, giving it a light pull.
The sixty-foot-long golden giant sword moved along with his motion.
Qin Ling grasped the hilt, feeling the surge of surging divine power flowing from the blade.
This was the divine art he had spent 600 incense points to purchase—the Seven-Kill Demon-Slaying Sword!
It was truly worthy of such a massive sum of incense points.
Qin Ling tightened his grip on the sword slightly.
The seven malevolent runes on the blade suddenly lit up.
As the first rune flared, the sea waves began to surge.
As the second rune lit up, the roiling waves formed a waterspout around him.
The third, fourth, fifth—
By the time the fifth rune burned bright, the reef beneath his feet was already cracking.
When the sixth rune ignited, the waterspout spinning around him suddenly froze in place.
The seventh rune flared to life.
Qin Ling slashed downward with a single swing.
Cleaving straight toward the sea.
"BOOM—!"
A gash thousands of feet long split open across the ocean surface out of thin air.
The sea churned madly to both sides, exposing the black seabed below.
Along with Qin Ling's avatar standing atop a black reef.
Along the edges of the chasm, seven golden beams burned, holding back the sea and preventing it from closing for a long time.
Three breaths.
Five breaths.
Ten breaths.
Only after a full ten breaths did the cleaved sea begin to slowly close up.
Standing on the reef at the ocean floor, Qin Ling looked up at the slowly mending sea.
Then, he lowered his head and looked at his own hand.
Was this destructive slash really unleashed by his own hand?
And this was merely the destructive power of his avatar; if his main body were here to use the Seven-Kill Demon-Slaying Sword, it would undoubtedly be even stronger!
He looked up toward the eastern waters.
Little Li Dragon.
If you don't come, so be it. But if you actually dare to show up, you'll definitely suffer the consequences.
Qin Ling's avatar turned around, blurred, and disappeared from the reef at the seabed.
Meanwhile...
Outside the western wall of the shrine stood a small pond.
Though called a pond, it was only slightly larger than a typical courtyard.
The water wasn't deep—waist-high at most—with fine sand lining the bottom and several clumps of reeds growing along the edges.
Right now, a giant clam crouched at the bottom of the pond.
Its cracked shell hung half-open, revealing a soft tongue inside that bubbled up a trail of fine bubbles.
This clam was none other than the Second-Turn Clam Spirit from before.
After Qin Ling went underwater to meet the Little Li Dragon, he didn't allow the Clam Spirit to leave, but instead brought it back with him to Qin Family Village.
He made the Clam Spirit stay right here in this small pond.
Qin Ling's reason for keeping the Clam Spirit was simple.
He still knew far too little about the situation in the East Sea.
Should any issues arise later, he would still need to question the Clam Spirit regarding information about the East Sea.
And so, the Clam Spirit took up residence in this small pond.
Deep down, it resisted the idea, but awed by Qin Ling's divine might, it dared not utter a complaint.
It could only obediently sink to the bottom of the pond, occasionally extending its tongue to lick and repair its shell.
At this moment, it was floating on the water's surface, basking in the sun.
Then, it sensed it.
An overwhelming pressure surged skyward from the sea miles away.
The Clam Spirit's shell snapped shut with a bang, and the entire clam sank swoosh to the deepest part of the pond at top speed.
It buried its body in the sand, trembling violently.
What was that?!
That pressure was terrifying!
Then, it recognized the aura.
Lord Qinling.
It was Lord Qinling's aura.
The Clam Spirit's eyes slowly poked out from the sand, swaying gently underwater.
Since it was Lord Qinling's aura, then there was nothing to worry about.
But why was Lord Qinling's pressure even more terrifying than before?
Miles away, the immense pressure slowly subsided, finally vanishing completely.
The sea returned to calm.
The Clam Spirit waited underwater for a long time before slowly floating back up.
Floating to the surface, it poked out its eyes and glanced toward the shrine.
The small shrine stood quietly in the sunlight, incense smoke curling upward, appearing no different from usual.
But the Clam Spirit knew that the existence living inside had grown even stronger.
It retracted its tentacles and slowly sank back to the bottom of the pond.
The pond water rippled slightly, and the chirping of insects sounded from among the reeds.
...
Over the next few days, the coastline saw no peace.
Every day after the tide receded, things that shouldn't be there would appear on the beach.
These things were none other than Cone Snails.
Crawling onto the beach, the Cone Snails extended sickle-like tentacles, squirming across the sand toward Qin Family Village.
"Pfft!"
Qin Mo, who had been waiting for a long time, leaped into the air, his spear piercing through the shell of a Cone Snail.
"Swish!"
"Swish!"
Nearby, Qin Yin was not to be outdone; swinging her long saber, she split open two crawling Cone Snails.
As martial artists, Qin Yin and Qin Mo had been using the Cone Snails as target practice lately, significantly boosting their proficiency with their martial arts secret manuals.
One, two, three...
The brother and sister worked in perfect harmony, one cutting down the left and the other taking the right, forcefully stopping these Cone Snails from approaching Qin Family Village.
But there were simply too many.
The Cone Snails surged out from the tide in a continuous, endless stream.
Some were slain on the beach, while others bypassed them and crawled toward the village.
Sweating profusely from thrusting his spear, Qin Mo looked up and saw that several Cone Snails had already crossed the beach and entered the village.
"Sister! Over there!"
Qin Yin turned back at his call, her expression instantly changing.
"Go after them! I'll hold them off here!"
Without a word, Qin Mo grabbed his spear and sprinted back.
Inside the village, three Cone Snails were crawling along an alley.
Their sickle-like tentacles waved in the air, looking quite horrifying.
Qin Mo charged over and speared the nearest one straight through.
Its shell shattered, splattering black fluid all over his leg.
Alerted, the other two turned around, flailing their tentacles frantically as they lunged toward him.
Qin Mo took a step back and tightened his grip on his spear.
Suddenly, a black shadow flickered past his side.
It was so fast he couldn't see it clearly at all.
By the time he reacted, those two Cone Snails were already lying dead on the ground.
Their shells were intact, but the snail meat inside had completely vanished.
Qin Mo stared blankly at the two Cone Snails, then at the creature that had suddenly appeared in front of him.
It was a clam.
A massive clam.
Its shell hung half-open, a mucus-covered tongue extending outward, with bits of black fluid still clinging to it.
It pulled its tongue back into the shell and shook slightly, as if wiping its mouth.
"Clam Spirit?"
Qin Mo blurted out.
Ignoring him, the Clam Spirit merely stuck out its tongue and pointed in a direction.
Qin Mo followed the direction of its tongue.
He saw the villagers on both sides of the alley poking their heads out upon hearing the noise.
They had just witnessed the scene of a huge sea clam devouring two Cone Snails.
The peering villagers all gasped in shock.
The Old Helmsman, leaning on his cane, widened his eyes in disbelief.
"What is that?"
"With that size, it looks just like a monster!"
A woman covered her mouth in fright.
Spear in hand, Qin Mo walked over, stood beside the Clam Spirit, and waved his hand at the crowd of villagers.
"Don't be afraid, don't be afraid! This is the Clam Spirit subdued by Lord Qinling!"
The villagers fell quiet for a moment.
The Old Helmsman stared blankly at the Clam Spirit, then looked back at Qin Mo.
"Subdued by Lord Qinling?"
"That's right!"
Wiping the sweat from his face, Qin Mo continued.
"It used to be a sea monster, but Lord Qinling subdued it. Lord Qinling kept it in the village because it's useful."
"It devouring those Cone Snails just now must be a divine order from Lord Qinling."
Looking toward the shrine, the Old Helmsman's eyes turned red with emotion.
"Can Lord Qinling even subdue monsters to protect us?"
